I’m super sold on this camera . Coming from from Using Mainly GH5 this C200 is literally everything I’m looking for in a cinema camera . Built in NDs , side & top handle. Usable 8bit 4k60 with option for Raw if needed. Affordable lenes. Log profile. I’m amazed at how affordable this camera is compared to release . This is definitely the camera I’ll be filming my movie on
Great review of the Canon C200. Just to clarify one point, with the last firmware update a while back, it is now possible to use both HDMI & SDI at the same time with an option to do so in the memu. The only restriction is that your SDI output will reflect your C200 monitor's display, so when using an extra monitor with recording capabilities you will record everythong appearing on your C200 monitor so you will have to clear your display to have clean output on the SDI
This camera is my go to run and gun camera, even had a music video shoot in a super rainy forest and the whole setup was soaked and still working great. 8 bit looks just as good as 12 bit and the sensor can go up to like 12k ISO without any bad grain. Sound is amazing and 4 channels of internal audio with physical audio controls, phantom power, sdi, HDMI. Like. Bro. Solid AF too. I just shoot with 8 bit mostly, as sometimes CFAST is unreliable with unsupported cards. But overall absolute heaven for both grading and usability. I fly it on a RS3 pro too, but the viewfinder is annoying to build around.
Yeah it’s more than 3 options…. Look at the exploded diagram of the wheels bro. It a two separate, stacked ND wheels the allow you to make additive use to expand beyond 3 to 5 choices of ND light cut. Roberto is right…..
This Cinema Camera only was released in 2018 which is not that long ago. I have always loved the Canon C200 Mark 2 but then the Canon C70 has been released and it can do similar things. Looking to see what Canon does with the Canon C200 Mark 3.
Super 35 is still better than APS-C, if we dont have C500 M2, which is in my view perfect, because full frame gives you more if you want to stabilize later and crop. By the way C500-M2 has a new update on Canon channel
The amount of professional filmmakers who crop later in post is sooooooo small. It's sloppy filmmaking 101. An editor friend of mine, I'm talking a nat geo editor here, if someone hands him footage abd says "there's a list here of two for one shots, you can punch in and crop for a better shot" he throws the footage package back at their face and says "if you can't be bothered to at least attempt get get it right in camera, I can't be bothered to edit this crap". Amen
@@Documentary81 I agree, the actual thing is to stabilize and compose the shots while shooting. This was one thing i said to justify my love for full frame, because it gives you more. I know when you crop, you lose quality and cutting between shots shows the difference, as cropped would be blurry. And then to recompose it. I love full frame for getting more in the picture, so when you're working in small spaces and your lens isn't wide enough, you get more with 35 to 50mm lenses, which would suck on APSC
Have you ever used an external recorder connected with SDI to capture 2K DCI 10-bit 422? I know the camera is capable, but I haven't seen any example footage. Great video Thanks!
I have a long time ago. It’s decent but nothing to rave about. I guess for some work it may be helpful but then you’re investing an extra $700 into monitor/recorder/ssd media so it’s a hefty trade off for 2K 10bit
It's a great camera, but having nothing between 12-bit super heavy storage-devouring RAW and 8-bit video is a bit of a shortcoming for me. If you're starting out in cinematography you're gonna have to make bank with commercial work and having a 10-bit prores would have been perfect for the purpose. 12-bit and quick turnarounds do not mix well, and 8-bit 1080p may not be good enough for a lot of clients.
10 bit is great but my experience is that it’s 50/50 on clients who want raw and those who don’t. Most sit down interview folks for one man band don’t care if it’s 8 bit and for larger more narrative driven commercials 12 bit has been requested. It IS truly the largest shortcoming from the camera but considering where it sits at now price wise it’s a fantastic option.
c70 is coming down in price as well, and once the c400 hits you'll probably see even more sales. I've been shooting commercials since launch on the c70 paired with much higher end c500mk 2 and Alexa mini's.
@@cine-vision Love the C200 I got a 10 hour body with monitor etc.. for 1850. I shoot RAW all the time with proxies on SDXC. Storage and computer has gotten so plentiful and cheap that RAW workflow is no issue for me. The 15 stops rivals Vision 3 Film so no one has any excuses with the C200. I can see why Canon discontinued the C200. They would rather you spend 8K on a C300 mk III

Definitely wish I had known before uploading! Thanks for the insight!

Nice insights! Love how you put this together too, great b-roll :)
👍🏻 The camera makes a good impression on me.
The presentation is compact, informative, factual!
I like both (camera + presentation).
used full kit is currently selling for about $2k here in vietnam. what a steal
It’s a great price point for what it offers. Only reason it’s that low though at this point is the lack of 10bit and timecode
Great camera. It is like a family member to me !😍
Do you like the Black Magic Cinema Camera Full frame image better than the C200?
Can you do a video about your favorite lenses for the c200?
I can’t wait to see the c200 mk II
Outstanding analysis! Thank you!
3:39 the Arri makes her look thinner are you using different lens?
such a great video dude! love the colors on this :)
Great video! One important correction: the c200 can go up to 10 stop NDs.
Not sure where you’re finding 10. There are 3 different ND levels in the camera, each adding 2 stops.
@@cine-visionhey! In the settings, you have extended nd option which adds 2 more stops. Google it;)
@@cine-vision you can use 6+2 and 6+4 filters to get 8 or 10 stops.
Yeah, i mean you can do that with any camera! Im just talking about the built in ND@@robertopalozzi7263

c200 has one of the best image and i owned all new cameras
Get the OWLBOT color profile for the C200, great ARRI like colors in camera
Good Review, enjoy watching. You were very descriptive with the camera and its capabilities.
Excellent video. Straight to point. Thanks
very good "review", could you share your workflow with the raw files?
Do you also use 8 bit codec to save file space even in professional situations? Is it good enough?
You can! For some jobs I’d say it be fine, long form content, interviews, but some clients want a 10bit at minimum so it all depends.

There is no such camera called c200 mark ii .the successor of c200 is c70
It’s a great camera I have two of them. Perhaps you can tell me how to use them

Hello, can we film 1080p 10-bit mp4 externally via the HDMI or SDI port please?
Fantastic Review, my Bro! Many Thanks. 👍🏾👍🏾 New Subscriber here. Cheers.
Very informative thanks
Thanx for the review, needed it.
Many more to come! 🤙

@cine-vision Cost aside, how is the 2k 10-Bit 422 compared to the downscaled RAW 10 Bit 422 that you get after using Media Encoder?
Sorry for the newb question, if you already have RF lenses does it make sense to just spend the extra money and get an R5c?
I would wait about 4 months. Canon has a new cinema camera arriving in 2 weeks and its significantly lower the price of the previous lineup.
@@cine-visionby the way this reel is fire!!
Can the C200 shoot TV style HD video or PAL? Or is it all Cinema Look?
Yes. They call it cinema camera only because it can go above and beyond tv style HD if you want it to.
you can buy an autoiris ENG style lens such as the CN-E 18-80
Wish it had 10bit 422 no raw... Bro how's the autofocus ??
Good enough for most situations!
Look at that monster. Wouldn't work where I travel. All that stuff would be ripped off in less than an hour. K.I.S.S!
