MORE:
-Is Prachuap Khiri Khan the nicest small beach town in Thailand? It's a VERY subjective topic (of course) as each person has their own ideal of what makes for the 'nicest' and combined with the category 'nicest small beach town in Thailand' a number of towns would rightly come up for consideration.
Will put my own bias right up front as Prachuap Khiri Khan (PKK;) town has long been a fav go-to getaway from my home in Bangkok. With its idyllic backdrop, nearby beautiful beaches, superb National parks, plus great amenities for a small town AND proximity to Bangkok, PKK is an absolute gem and always a genuine pleasure to visit.
Yet PKK is far less visited than its deservedly renowned Royal neighbour to the North (Hua Hin) which is an hour or so closer to Bangkok. Most Expats looking for a short central coast beach break opt for Hua Hin. Most tourists travelling via road or rail heading South either stop in Hua Hin as a solo / or enroute destination, or go straight on through to hop a ferry in Surat Thani to Koh Samui & surrounding Islands. One pities those in both groups who for whatever reason have not visited absolutely sublime PKK. One is also certain most local Expats & tourists living or regularly vacationing in PKK might comment 'Nothing to see here, no need to come'.... (with wry and knowing grins;)
Hope you enjoy the PKK video and if you do, shhhhh!!!!

Footnote: Forgot to add specific train booking info/costs in the video as follows:
1) Best to book Thai train seats ahead of time either in person (at the station) or online:
Thailand SRT website: www.railway.co....
First select 'Online Booking' & then 'Southern Line' & then 'Prachuap Khiri Khan'
2) Recommend either of the following trains as both get you in before too late (there are others too):
* Dep 8:05 - Arrv 12:28 SPECIAL EXPRESS #43
(aircon/commuter type train, a/c seat cost from 455 Baht)
** Dep 13:00 - Arrv 18:35 RAPID # 171
(aircon/seat in sleeper car but seat only converts to bed after Hua Hin or PKK up 2 u,
a/c seat/bed cost from 595 Baht for 'lower' = seat facing travel direction vs looking back)
Seating - select left or right side?
If taking the 8 am train sun will mostly be on left side
If taking the 1 pm train sun will mostly be on right side
***If booking online options say 'full', still go to the station & check as they 'may' have seats which are not avail online.
****Do NOT recommend non-aircon as it can be a 6 hr etc commute if delayed so can get a bit sticky.
A/C can be a bit too cold so bring a wrap ladies, or joggers etc guys.
There are usually electric plugins to charge phones etc.
As of this writing Hua Lamphong remains open and switch to Bang Sue 'super station' is pushed fwd to late 2022. Further, it's been announced Hualamphong Stn will continue in operation just not as the main stn.
Hope this helps some viewers!

One of the best travel info vids I've seen on UA-cam. So much info in 13 minutes. I especially liked the complete train travel info and cost estimates. Liked, Subscribed, Bell. Thanks.
aweebunny thank you for the very (too) kind comments and like/sub.

dude your skills are exactly as much as you need to make a video, the one thing that was awesome and great about this video is that it doesn't have a typical annoying song that I am just to hear on other videos. The other things is that you made the view talk, you didn't. That's what I liked, because you do not stand there and talk about subscribing or shit. Your'e just showing people what they can do and fill them up with information for their best!
Newbie??? This is a really beautiful and awsome video from one of the nicest beach town and places in Thailand,
and, YES I WOULD live there, because this place match perfectly my dreams and ideals. Thanks for this great video and go on,
well done and great work :D
Very cool vlog and I like the little historical pieces of info you included on the area Nice 1 😊👍
Perfect video from start to finish. You included many items and information that is generally missing from other video 'makers'. Excellent viewing. Thanks
Great Video!
Amazing Thailand
Totally agree. I’ve been visiting Prachuab for years. Wonderful coastal Thai town that hasn’t sold its soul to mass tourism. Amazing seafood too. I usually stay around the bay in Khao Mong Lai. Even quieter there!
Bargain prices for drinks and a beautiful view from the balcony. Perfect.
Superb edit.
Just a tip on videoing, when showing pricing or maps, please display a few seconds longer to give us oldies time to hit the pause button, cheers
Martin Goodef Noted and fully agree. This was one of my 1st attempts at videoing + also added a lot of info. You're quite correct though, the frame transition is far too rapid to read comfortably (for any age one might add;) Still learning thus greatly appreciate your kindly stated constructive comment and patience. Cheers
Thanks for follow up, you will do well with your vids, looking forward to following your journeys
Great little video. I really like how you present all the information and views without trying to put on a show about yourself. Subscribed and looking forward to more.
I've been here in 2018, very nice place to visit. Very quiet, beautiful beach, nice people, underated place, worth to stay a few days or live there. I'm living in Thailand, let me tell you if you want to retired, this is one the place to live. If you tired of Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui, Bangkok or so, come on here.
Your videos are so informative and at the same time very fun to watch. Also you have added maps whenever needed. I like it very much and tempted to visit the city. That you very much for such a wonderful video :)
Have to admit, great first video, you have come along way since this one. Best of all, you have kept to the way you make them imho. Saw you mentioned this vid and came back to watch it.
Good stuff and keep them coming.
Beautiful filming, what an amazing country Thailand is! Well done....
Outstanding job on the video and info, More PLEASE!
cheers!
Best video I’ve seen on Thailand, very very informative in a short timeline. I’ve subscribed and liked.
Thanks 🙏
That was an EXCELLENT video. I have seen a lot of videos on Thailand and Thai towns but you put most all of it in a reasonable size video. The only thing that could be better, no insult whatsoever, is a brief description/shot of local hospital or medical services. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Rick and thx for the kind comment. You're right and no insult taken regarding lack of med services info, completely blanked on that and it's important. PKK does have a decent local hospital as well as an Air Force hospital due to the local airbase there. However for local specialist treatment there's an international Hospital 1.5 hrs up the highway in Hua Hin. Of course Bangkok also has world class hospitals approx 4-5 hrs away by car. Hope that info helps. Cheers! STL
Arriving PKK tomorrow (30/07/2023) on the train from Hua Hin! Looking forward to tracing your routes - five years later 😆 Thanks for the content - very helpful
Fantastic! Make sure to get a 2cnd class aircon train carriage as non a/c can be unpleasant for journey's longer than 1 hr. Hit the Sat night market, enjoy!
Perfect retirement location.
You can delete your vlog now, don't tell everyone 😂😂😂
😁👍
Loved this video, I have only been there for a short lunch trip from Hua Hin and promised myself I’d go back. Thanks for all the information, much appreciated 👍
Great vid mate. Like the quick briefing on property at the end.
Excellent! Kush from chocolate man in Thailand. Great coverage and I like how you included maps. All well done!
Thank you very much!
Love everything about this video - thanks for sharing - super helpful and inspirational!
@Laura McNamee - You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! To any new viewers, sorry for the too fast text transitions all. Pls press pause where needed and pls pardon the inconvenience. Cheers! STL
Great job showing and descriptions. Now on the bucket list. Beautiful. Thank you.
"...but this isn't a town for clubs and nightlife"
...PERFECT!
EDIT: Been binge watching all your old vids. :D
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Mr Wheeler
Very nice. Definitely go there after covid. Thanks for the excellent video.
Beautiful peaceful spot in Thailand. I'm expat Scot/Aussie retired in Korat. I've been all around Thailand and will definitely put this one on the "bucket list." Thanks for the video. As a novice you did a pretty good job mate.
@Jim Ferguson - Thanks Jim. I just regret the rapid transitions but hopefully viewers will hit pause when the text goes by too fast.
I also like your area around Korat but have not been up that way in a while. How's the new rail construction going? Last I read the 3.5km Klang Dong-Pang Asok section and 11km Si Khiu-Kut Chick sections were underway and the BKK-Korat section was 'on track' to complete for 2023 opening despite ongoing haggling?
For anyone reading and not up to speed, this is a part of China's 'belt and road' initiative with a fast rail link from Kunming in China to the Gulf of Thailand. Some sources state the Thai line 'high speed' trains will travel at just 160 KMH. But according to WIKI quote: The CR400AF models has a maximum speed of 350 km/h (Operating speed in Thailand will be 250 km/h). We'll likely only know the actual speeds after launch. I'm a bit of a train & construction nerd so try to keep up with the news. A great train spotting resource for this project and others is SKYSCRAPERCITY site:

SideTripLife. No activity as yet in the Korat area with the new railway. The spectacular elevated motorway near Lumtakong lake is almost complete. Four and a half years in Korat now and the infrastructure expansion has been forging ahead. Extension to the already huge Mall, Terminal 21 and Central Plaza are also recent additions. There's certainly been a big influx of population during my time here. I live in a modern village about 8 Kms from the CBD with my Thai wife. Her village is about 40 Kms away heading south on Highway 2 and we spend a lot of time there with our extended family. The countryside is the real Thailand that so many tourists don't visit but that's where the Thai culture and everyday existence is most evident. I love living in Thailand and made the right decision to retire here. Cheers mate.
Never heard of this place until today. Very beautiful!! Like the quiet less crowded places
Bypassed PKK on the highway many times. After watching your video, I'll detour and explore next time. Looks great. Nice video BTW.
Caught the train to Chumphon last year & stayed out on Tung Wua Laen beach 👍 👍 I had been noticing the nice beaches on the way and when we stopped at PKK station thought ok this could be worth a try........you’ve convinced me, will give it a try later in the year. Thanks
Absolutely brilliant video. I look forward to future content.
Well done on a great video crammed with all the info anyone would need. Looks a lovely relaxing place, hope it stays that way.
Nice video! I am in Quarantine in Bangkok now. I haven't decided where I want to live yet. I was thinking Hua Hin, but that looks like a great place to live.
Thx Tom. Was one of my 1st vids so a bit rough but PKK still my fav small beach town in Thailand and for sure worth a look. For more vids around the area please see:

@@SideTripLife Thank you so much
pkk is a bit more quiet during the week than shown in the video, especially at night.
Great video, love it, opens my eyes about Thailand
I got misdirected while in thailand last winter, and i had to try real hard to reason to myself why I would ever want to leave. Its a small town and has everything. I miscalculated and forgot my bag on the train. After reporting it to the station, I was able to pick it up that afternoon. Cant wait to go back!
That's it. Bags are packed on my way
Great video and lots of good information. Well done.
Great job. I'm going to visit Bangkok and Pattaya for the first time this year. I like seeing a different perspective and different locale. Appreciated.
Although this is a good video, I would note NW Thailand (Chiang Mai, Pai, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai) is equally interesting and has world class motorcycling, such as the Mae Hong Son Loop.
if you like peace and quiet then you will feel good here.
morning 6 am everyone already busy and 9 pm everyone sleep already. That is the live style here. night live fun have to drive 90 km to huahin city.
This place is for pepeople who love to execute with bicycle or running, only the Ao Manao beach is clean for swimming.
Great little video. Good to see places off the beaten track.
Very nicely done video with good information I would have asked you. Thank you
Absolute cracking video, lovely place looks a great a place to retire .If you like the quiet life it's perfect. I've been all over Thailand but never there will visit .
I see you had the bird intro right from your very first video. Love it. Especially the newer version with the upbeat music .. I might have to steal that idea one-day ... Ha ha 😅
You found my 1st vid and it was nearby that I found that bird actually. Was walking along a path to the beach with no one around and I hear 'Sawadee Khrup'.... I look around, no one. Shrug and walk on. Then a cheerful 'Hello'!! I look around and finally see the bird in a cage. Filmed and spent an hour listening, talking back and thinking I should bust this bird outta that cage... Never did but still wish I had sometimes.
@@SideTripLife A funny story ... It was meant to be ... yes they cage a certain species of bird there for good luck ... Not good luck for the bird )-:
Another great video my friend. Stay safe!
@Foreigner Joe Thanks Joe. Love PKK hope to get back down there around the new year, will give a shout if so.
You got me interested in this town.
wish I'd never made this video... many farangs have moved here now...
I thought this was great, for someone apologizing for his/her skills this was fantastic, you must do more you have a talent for this , never heard of this place looks like a great place to visit
yulog This was one of my 1st attempts at making videos so was unsure how to go about it but I guess it turned out ok afterall. Still lots to learn. Have a Myanmar series upcoming and some others planned, time permitting. Thanks for your kind comments.
Nice VDO, very informative. Hope to visit there someday!
You make me nervous with your videos so much to see and discover!!!
I think it is always wise when looking for a new place to live in Thailand to rent month by month or no longer than a 3 month lease. This will give you time to adjust. I live in Hua Hin very close to Phrachup Kiri Khan and I would do that before moving there.
@Taco Gillespie Fully agree Taco. As stated to another commenter: Ultimately recommend one stays at 'least' a few weeks in any location before making any longer term decisions. A few months even better.
I'm Penang this looks a quieter pleasanter life style, I must visit.
Subscribed really enjoyable and in formative , look forward to seeing more in future 😀
Very nice and informative video, well put together.Thank you.
Robert Kooijmans Thank you for your kind comments Robert.
What a gem! I thought your video was excellent. Covered most aspects, agree with another person to include health care options would be a useful addition. Best subscribe then 😊
@Andrew Oakley - Thx Andrew. Will copy n paste my belated response to the important but somehow blanked info regarding health care: *PKK does have a decent local hospital as well as an Air Force hospital due to the local airbase there. However for local specialist treatment there's an international Hospital in Hua Hin 1.5 hrs up the highway. Of course Bangkok also has world class hospitals approx 4-5 hrs away by car. Hope that info helps. Cheers! STL
Great video you covered it all!
@J International Thanks J! Only regret the much too fast text transitions (this was among my 1st vids, still learning;) plus didn't include local hospitals info -there is a good local one and an Intnl hospital in Hua Hin 45 mins drive North. There, now covered lol
Amazing vid. Great information, beautiful pics. Thx a lot !
@Jürgen Otten - Thank you! Nice to get a good comment. Many others have been commenting (rightfully) about the text disappearing too quickly and the somewhat lame music. Apologies to all viewers for that. Still learning and still welcome all constructive comments as helps me improve. Cheers! STL
Still a great town and Ao Manao one of the loveliest beaches on that coastline. More and more expats moving there in the last few years especially since corona finished.
Ooohhh...I have been passing by this place many times with my bike on my way to koh samui, krabi and others....never knew this place was so beautiful!! I will definitely stop next trip and stay a few days!! Might even be one of my new destinations!!! Thanks for this video!!!
This place looks fantastic, a great find.
Thanks! If I didn't have to be in Bangkok often I'd move to lovely PKK in a heartbeat :)
absolutely belting video look forward to watching more... thanks a lot
Awesome video! Loved the beach views and housing rental and purchase info. Thank you!
Just what I’ve been looking for
Great trip report , no incessant chat etc , subscribed , I lived in Hua Hin for a year ,but never drove to Pkk, it looks fabulous
@Mr Martin Thank you. My vids are more POV and about the places etc, not about me, some like this style, some don't glad you do. Amazing the majority of visitors to Hua Hin never make it just an hour or so South to Pkk. Myself included at first. That is until I needed to get a work permit while living in Hua Hin. Muang Prachuap Khiri Khan is the capital and back then also the main Govt office for the province. Glad I made that trip in '97 as a young man and still happily visiting Pkk to this day.
I didn't know they were closing the station in Bangkok. I travelled from there to Hua Hin a couple of years ago and it was great to have that bit of historical infrastructure. I wish Asians would value their architectural history more. They make their towns soulless by constantly ripping down the older buildings.
@person X Agree more needs to be done to preserve architectural history especially in emerging Asian countries. In this case, happy to report historically rich & much beloved Hua Lamphong station will remain as a museum and possibly also as a living inner-city station after Bang Sue Grand Station opens (now looking like in latet 2021 or perhaps 2022).
A super presentation, well done !
Les Martin thank you. Just made another video nearby to PKK of Huai Yang area titled 'Nicest Beach Escape near Bangkok'. If interested can see on main videos page. Could spend weeks making movies of that entire beautiful area.
Amazing
What a really good and informative video. Mazeltov
If you are staying in Hua Hin one option is you can use the white minibus service for a day-trip to PKK. Easiest pickup point is on the opposite side of road to Market Village, near to White House Villa, alongside the 7-11 store. Buses run hourly (via Pranburi) & you have to buy a one-way ticket around (80-100 baht from memory) at HH before you board to secure a seat.
PKK destination is a minibus terminus near Police Station where you can buy your ticket (same price) for the return trip. Last buses are around 5.30 pm and fill up quickly so buy your ticket say an hour early or face being stranded at PKK or having to find alternative transport. If you decide to stay overnight the hotels are cheap enough (like the 'basic' greeny colored Mont Talay hotel) on the seafront; it used to be around 400 baht p/n w/fan, but what it lacks in hotel standards is compensated by a fabulous elevated sea view.
Tourist information office at PKK at northern end of the promenade in cluster of Provincial Offices. Once you're at PKK it's only a short hop to Ao Manao Beach if you want to give it a recce; good eating, good swimming. You could 'hire' a motor-tricycle to take you there, stay for a couple of hours & return. Agree a price beforehand, around 200 baht if you get the vehicle/driver I latched onto.
Mike Harrington Great info Mike, thank you
Very good intro to this little vacating destination. Great info here. Since I'm historically handicapped reading subtitle, i would believe voice narrative would let me enjoy your videos more. That way, I may pay full attention to the beautiful scenes you filmed, not needing to read those narratives.
@Alofzico Actually, in this case it's likely more down to my too fast transitions in this video than any handicap, so my apologies for that. This was one of my 1st attempts at video making and unfortunately I crammed too much info in much too quickly and even if narrating likely would end up sound like Alvin and the chipmunks on 78 speed.... Not really a narrator type but will take your suggestion under consideration. Thanks
Great video... beautiful place,
Thank you...
Great video. I will save it for the future.
Both entertaining and informative. 👍 I have lived in Thailand for 15 years but always inland places. Do miss the sea. Nothing to stop me moving here but the wife 😊
Very nicely done - thank you
I been phuket krabi bangkok hua hin n many place in thai for rilex but prechuap khiri khan still no 1 for me... miss that place ...
Graet Video!!!
Yes Ban groom was very beautiful and peaceful I have been to many places in Thailand
I love Thailand 💗
WOW! These are places that will be on my list to visit! Thanks for the great video!! Cheers from Alaska!!

Looks awesome definitely would consider going that sometimes it's good to get away from the Hustle and bustle like Bangkok can be very busy with people nice to get away somewhere with space definitely consider going there
Very good video! Thanks!
Well done. Thank you for sharing. All the best. Mitch
Looks like a beautiful place to visit, or live!
Yes, absolutely want to rent one of those houses. Great video!!!!
This was very nice video. Let see when I can travel to this place.
Great and very informative video👍 Thank you very much!
@Ela A. Thank you! I'm pleasantly surprised my fav beach town video still gets many views daily, glad some like it :)
Very Nice !!!! Great work. !!!!!!!
EXcellent report! Not a lot of "driving around' shots that waste time. Do another on what locals do for fun in these beautiful towns--singing? Dances? Handicrafts?
Well edited...!
@Will Shaw Thx for your kind comment. Outside of the weekend markets and festival times, Prachuap Khiri Khan (or PKK for short) is fairly quiet - which besides the beautiful area and lovely people is why most like it.
BTW, here's another area nearby if any are interested:

Nice video. What a lovely clean place.
I am heading to Thailand for the month of February and you have just convinced me to get off the train early, This will be my 5th time and I usually take the train to Surat Thani and then to the Islands--Obviously I am missing lots of things
I love the city. I was there many times already because my gf lives there. Lemon bay is the best. Great video!
really good video! :) very interesting and informative
you should blend in your text for a little bit longer so that people can actually read it. Very uncomfortable.
Vince D' Agreed. This was one of my 1st tries at videoing and wanted to add a lot of info without making an overly long video. However the transitions are much too quick. Still much to learn. Thanks for your constructive feedback.
doh ... just pause ...
Wonderful
Beautiful.. thanks for sharing
Thank you. I will be returning to lovely PKK soon to do an update
Thanks for this! I will keep this in mind for when I retire! Cheers!
