  • Edited video of my day riding Santiago Oaks with Francisco. It was a long day for me, I woke up at 6am, dropped off my daughter at school at 7:30am, went to the gym at 8am, went to yoga at 9am and then went mountain biking at 11am. We rode til 2:30pm, I stopped by the gym to shower then headed to my restaurant to eat my One Meal A Day and where I worked til a little past midnight.
I had just fully bled my brakes, serviced and lubed the pistons, centered my calipers and my brakes were way more powerful than I ever remembered. They were grabbing and slowing my bike down way quicker than I was used to and it took awhile to get adjusted. I took 2 crashes on some pretty stupid areas and I didn't realize it until later that it was because I forgot to open back up my suspension. I have only ridden at Santiago Oaks a handful of times and I dont ever remember ever crashing there. I was pretty frustrated but definitely felt better when I realized it was because my rear shock was locked out. Francisco also showed me a playground area with some cool features that I was able to hit and get some redemption.
Since my big crash into the tree at Mammoth I have been riding more carefully and actually rode 3 weeks without crashing. I think since Santiago Oaks is mainly beginner trails I didn't respect it enough and paid the consequences. Although I had 2 crashes I still had a great day. The conditions are extremely dry and loose in OC right now and I cant wait for the first rain storm. I am pretty lucky I didnt break any bones, in the first crash my knee and ankle slammed a boulder really hard, luckily I had knee pads on but I still felt the impact and I had a lot of pain bending my knee. My ankle hurt really bad but I could tell it wasn't broken. After running around the restaurant all night my ankle swelled up pretty bad and I iced it while I slept. On the second crash I slammed my hip really hard, I had a multitool and co2 cartridge in my hippack and it caused a cut and bruising, I also slammed my head pretty hard, I had a headache for about an hour but the next day I woke up to a really stiff and sore neck. I am stoked I wasnt seriously hurt and look forward to my next ride.

I got really lucky on diving board and just managed to get back in line or it would of been another crash for me. Glad you were protected good on your knee, head and didn't get scratched up too bad. Great day as always and redemption in the same day is better than waiting a whole week to see how you feel!
