The greatest Filipino poet in Philippine Literature, Francisco Balagtas came from Bigaa, Bulacan. This type of literature is called Balagtasan and it’s being taught in schools starting grade school.

From what I understand, it’s because of the limited land/resources. Since there are a lot of Filipinos, the law prioritizes the citizens to own a piece of their land. That is why it is more difficult for foreigners to own properties. I think it’s also to prevent the country to be bought & owned by more foreigners since the reality is in terms of buying power, foreigners can easily buy properties because their money has a higher value than PH peso. They can do so but it should be a shared property with a Filipino. Even if the law doesn’t recognize foreigners who were born & grew up here as Filipinos, the people will still conseder & see them as Filipinos. It’s the same with my Chinese relatives. They are full Chinese but they feel more Filipino than Chinese. They are also proud to be Chinese-Filipinos.
