- In this week's episode, Nick and Tim share their experiences with the whirlwind that the week was in the state of Florida with Hurricane Milton. Nick describes his journey from Michigan and back home just in time for the storm's arrival. Tim discusses what his family faced during the storm as well. We know that the hurricane has been a focal point of the last couple of episodes, but it has had an impact on our weeks. We look forward to getting back into the groove of theme park news and appreciate you all continuing to track with us through all of life's events. Portions of the proceeds of this episode will be donated to the recovery efforts from Hurricane Milton. Our friends across the state of Florida are in our thoughts.
I found out Nick and I are neighbors during the aftermath Thursday!! Glad y'all are safe!!
I can't imagine
Please bring Adam on
Yes Adam would be awesome
I truly appreciate the cast members that volunteer to be on the ride out team and to keep the magic going for those who are having to stay during the volatile storm season. Huge shout out to them for sure!
I love Mondays!!! it's when I can listen to that tracks!
Thank you for sharing! Milton fell right in the middle of my son’s first birthday trip. We are so grateful for the awesome ride out crew at port Orleans Riverside. Glad both of your houses and families are okay
Happy to see your faces, glad to hear that everyone is safe!!!!!
As a lifelong former Floridian, hurricanes are what made me move out of Tampa and Florida entirely. I couldn’t handle the yearly anxiety. And as the population in Florida grew during and after COVID, it became impossible to evacuate the state in time. I still miss Disney, but I don’t miss the panic attacks during hurricane season.
So glad everyone of you made it through safe. Things can be replaced.
Love the podcast guys! Been a Tracker fan for literally years and have become a Theme Park Dad fan for all our Disney info. Glad ya’ll are safe! Would love to see Adam on the podcast 👍🏻
After we got hit by Hurricane Fiona in 22 I went a week with no power and lost a lot of food because I had no backup. 2 years later I've since upgraded my electrical to include a generator panel in my house. I never want to go through that again. I can't imagine living in a place hit so regularly or even driving towards the storm versus away from it. Glad you both came through relatively unscathed.
My family in Tampa and my friends in Bradenton are safe- so glad you guys are too! 🫶
Tampa here. Still without power. Helene trashed our beach house but Milton was ok other than no power. Glad y’all are both safe. We all need a vacation!!!!!
You guys are awesome. So glad you both survived Hurricane Milton.
The break down on the storm was really interesting. I live in Montana so totally out of my realm of understanding. One of my good friends lives in Miami and I was talking to her but they were basically out of it besides the tornadoes. Glad you are all safe! Can't imagine the stress.
Sarasota County resident here. So much devastation here 😢. Storm fatigue is real.
Thank You for sharing..live in Ontario Canada.
I live in Utah (but used to have 2 daughters that lived in Florida) and I have followed Eric Burris from WESH for years. He has taught me so much about Hurricanes and Tornados and he has the most calm demeanor.
I hope everyone enjoyed their Columbus Day! Nicks hurricane story was intense!!
Oh no, you guys are the wrong way round 🙈
Glad you both survived this storm❤
Not me going insane that Nick and Tim switched sides for the podcast.🤪
In the UK but was following closely as we have family in Florida - so thank you for your coverage and glad you all remained safe and well, it must be really scary and stressful to know to do/not to do...I would hate to be in that position xx
First glad you guys and your families are good. Making ice before the lost of power is a great trick we did that before Hurricane Maria here in Puerto Rico and helped after we lost power. We were without power for months here.
I am glad both you and your family made it through Milton safely. My family in St. Petersburg went to Georgia,.
I am in the PNW as a school therapist and as a former Chicagoan we don't have fall break in either places, I WISH we did.
My kid’s STEAM teacher recommended watching Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood season 6, episode 4 for elementary/younger kids. It deals with a neighborhood storm and the aftermath. I missed this advice prior to the hurricane 🤦♀️ but plan to watch it with my kiddo over the next week or so as a follow up for the storm and its impacts in our area.
Tim, your parents losing power reminds me of losing power during ice storms. A lot of people lose it after the storm as the ice melts off the tree branches and the branches spring back up into the power lines. So frustrating!!!
Happy to see everyone safe! And we’re back to our regular schedule podcast haha
Glad you guys made it through ok. I'm in Bradenton (not far from Anna Maria) and there is just so much damage. The north west side of the storm was so much stronger and just didn't let up for hours. My son works at Sarasota Airport and it was good you got the car. No flooding but they had damage all around the airport and still haven't reopened yet. Siesta Key and south got the storm surge. We were getting 100- 110 mph winds. It was quite the experience
So glad you all are safe. I had a friend from here in the UK that flew into disney literally over helene outer bands on the 27th sept and then was there for Milton. It was the first time i had a friend in Florida for a Hurricane , when that predicted path at one point looked like it was going straight over All Stars i was in a state. God knows how you Floridans deal with these events yearly, i'd be an anxiety enduced mess x
I believe that the Tampa airport did the right thing by closing early. All the employees need to get ready for the hurricane as well. While inconvenient to some they need to protect their employees also.
Tim- “Hurricane came, we did well, hurricane gone”
Nick- “We’ll you see, Webster defines a hurricane as….” *45 minutes later* “And then I logged onto this video!” 😅
Goodness Nick I've done that drive almost every year for Thanksgiving to visit my in-laws up in Indiana next to Michigan, I am shocked you didn't hit more traffic coming down, Atlanta always causes an extra three or four hour delay for us. But that's also not an easy drive to do in two days with kids Good on all of y'all I'm so sorry that was more stressful than it needed to be and thrilled it worked out
We’ve driven I 75 Michigan to Florida many times! Love driving through Kentucky and Tennessee, Ohio and Georgia not so much…
From the UK I was watching so closely the weather and all those on TikTok sharing updates. Was so scary.
So glad you’re all ok 🙌my parents live in St Pete and were unable to leave the city and their power just came back on last night. They had a tree branch go through the soffit on their roof but fared well otherwise. This storm was a monster 😞
We got back from Disney world in July the day before hurricane beryl here in Texas. My husband had a 102 fever and we lost power for 2 1/2 days and we were under heat advisory’s. It was insane and I was so worried because it was so hot for him. We ended up having a leak in our ceiling downstairs and one of our trees by our kitchen broke two windows (inside and outside) so we had to get the glass replaced. Other than that we were okay.
Fall break became a thing when the school year starts in August. When it started the day after Labor Day, we didn't get fall break.
Airlines will also cancel flights in advance of a storm because they don’t want a bunch of their planes stuck in a place where there is a catastrophic weather event coming.
Even if your power lines are underground, usually the lines that feed them are above ground. That’s something that we run into with our neighborhood. Usually it’s a tree that’s close to the line that goes into our neighborhood that goes down and we lose power
If you have an Iphone, you can use it as a white noise machine. If you can, invest in a bluetooth battery powered speaker, so you can connect that, put the phone into battery saver mode, and it shouldnt drain it that much, so you can still use it in emergencies.
I live in St Petersburg (west of Tampa) and we had 100 mph wind gusts, it was terrifying. We are still without power, day 5, I think? Honestly who knows at this point. Lol
I’m from Massachusetts and I’ve never heard of this Fall break either lol
I feel like our fall break is Thanksgiving long weekend.
Home Depot in Baltimore was ready for Christmas. There's lots of plug in Pacifica's in my neighborhood. EV's and plug ins seem to be contagious around here
Nick, your schools have an actual fall break? Not just a teacher planning day at the end of the first 9 weeks? Polk County really does live in its own world (not in a mean way 🙂)
It was one of the worst storms to hit Florida, as in what it brought before the storm itself. As in the tornadoes it produced before the hurricane hitting the state. I believe more than any other storm recorded.
Does FL have all year school? I'm in Maryland and our schools don't have a fall break. They get off for thanksgiving, Christmas and then a week in the spring.
They start Halloween in August and by mid October they are over it. Its just so stupid.
Thinking of the advance notice to close WDW is the same as shutting down SRQ. You need to plan ahead getting airplanes out of the storms way. Remember people work at the airport that need to get their property safe. I’ve been a travel planner for 34 years and I must say airlines plan ahead which give travelers time to change their plans. The most important thing is that your family is safe.
We still don't have water post Helene and won't for weeks. It's rough. We have a camping shower coming but Amazon deliveries have been super delayed, so hopefully it comes soon.
I'm unsure about Gatorland. Any place that claims to be an animal sanctuary but is not AZA accredited and breeds animals for profit makes me concerned about the welfare of the animals.
Really Glad Nick, that you all really made smart choices when you all were coming back to be prepared for the storm, was worried about you all.
Watch out for LISTERIA and listeria poisoning in food
Nick I love you but goodness do your stories get looooong.
It’s a coping mechanism. Especially for someone with ADHD &/or anxiety. It helps our brain cope with everything that is going on (depending on the situation not just this specific one).
@@erinchavez1545 As someone with ADHD and severe anxiety, I do get it. It's obvious he's a ball of love and means well. I just find myself spacing out during his stories and wishing for more Tim time in these videos. :/
Glad everyone is safe! Been watching the news coverage of the hurricanes and it honestly scared me. I had Beryl come through me in Houston in July and lost power for a week.
