For the Discord it would be better for the 64bit worlds to have their own category with dedicated general/trade/lfg/kin recruit ect. channels. Having a single channel for all servers for those things will just be chaos.
Will LOTRO ever update the game to be playable on 4k monitors? A lot of the UI doesn't scale properly on high res monitors and is all blurry and very tiny.

UI Updates are happening, we have an upcoming Deed Panel Update, however right now as of Jan 18th, 2025 we don't know when other UI Updates such as UI Scaling will occur. Definitely planned but it's not on the immediate (3-ish month) future. Maybe will happen in 2025, maybe not, it's wait & see.

If I have multiple houses with items from a toon on the same account... what happens if I transfer a character that still has bound items in another toons house? ie Char A has bound items in Char B's home. Char A transfers first, then Char B... what happens to Char A's items in this case? I guess this also applies to toons I have on mutiple accounts that have items in each other accounts homes.... seems like I will lose items for whichever toon I transfer first?
I'm looking to get into the game as a VIP member but I'm unsure what to do... Should I wait for the 64bit servers to come out or play the legendary servers? It doesn't seem worth starting fresh on the old servers but I'm curious if anyone has a helpful opinion. Thank you!
Pending anything the upcoming 64-bit Free/Anyone Servers will be in February. So there is probably 30 days or less, from Jan 20th, 2025, until said Servers will be open. If you start on a Legendary Server right now (Treebeard, Angmar, and Mordor) you probably will not be able to Transfer said Character(s) over to the new servers. So that would be the only downside.
If we transfer our character and get a name-number, will the Kinship recognize that character? also, if we rename our character in such a case, will we have to be re-invited to our kinship?
Will the new 64 bit legendary servers get transfers? I just started playing and everyone said the new legendary was the best place for new players to experience the world, but it seems like all of us will not be able to transfer to the new servers when they roll out and will eventually be left behind as the vets switch back to old characters.
Probably not when the Free/Anyone 64-bit Servers launch. The Legendary Servers generally only have two times Transfers happen: When the Player Count is way too low for months and when they reach their "natural end".

You can start now on any of the 10 Main Servers as we'll have "Transfers" from them to the upcoming 4 64-bit Servers. However there will only be US to US Transfers & EU to EU Transfers so choose wisely for this if you pick a Server as this will lock any Character onto that side of the game.
Never Understood the Name Generation limiter. Why its not unlocked and free to choose. Im having to Skip the RP server because i cant RP with the names i want.. Im having to add extra or alternate until i find one that works.

So yes, we will have more EU Servers hosted from Europe soon in 2025. USEU Server Transfers aren't likely but not 100% off the table either. Then again it might happen as if someone told me a 64-bit Client would happen (2019) or 64-bit Servers would happen (2024 & 2025) back in 2013-2018 I'd have said that sure it could happen but it most likely won't. Thanks for doing this and keeping the beloved LOTRO community informed. I was thrilled to hear about the new servers, UNTIL last week I heard that I could not transfer to an EU server from a US one. Now I am stuck in a US server while playing from eastern Europe (150ish ms latency at best) and I feel betrayed (No one warned me about this issue when I transferred to Landroval from a dark world many years ago). Two things are handled in a "we did so and deal with it" manner (ridiculous naming "race" and cross continental transfers). I and most the people I read/hear are really annoyed about it. On the other hand, I still thank the company for still investing and improving this amazing game.

LOTRO hasn't had US EU Transfers and we had this topic come up several times in the past such as 2015/2016 for the big Server Consolidation. Landroval is a US Server so you were on a US Server from that period of time as well back in 2015/2016. All LOTRO Servers have been hosted from the USA since 2011 with the established US to US only & EU to EU only for transfers. We "might" in the future, not likely in 2025, see the possibility of US EU Transfers but then again we might not.
It should get its name unless it already exists and in that case it get a modified name. Think that is appended with a number or something like that and freely then be able to give it a name of your choosing.
So if your Characters name is Bob and you transfer, but there is another Bob already on the server, your characters name will be Bob-1 with the ability to rename it for free.
Lifetime sub owner here from Evernight server EU, haven’t logged for more than a year, do I get it right that I have to choose a new server and migrate?
What is happening is that 4 New Servers are going to be opened. They will allow anyone on the 5 US 32-bit Servers to Transfer to the 2 upcoming 64-bit Servers. Same thing for the 5 EU 32-bit Servers to the 2 upcoming 64-bit Servers. This will be happening either in February or March 2025. Possibly either in 2025 or 2026 they will probably close the 10 Main 32-bit Servers. So either here in Early 2025 or sometime later in 2025 or in 2026 everyone will have to Transfer. There are no USEU Transfers so any Characters on a US Server have to play on US Servers and EU Characters on EU Servers. So you don't "have" to Transfer right away. However as we are having 4 Servers Names & Housing is going to be on a "first come, first serve" so if you want to keep some Character Names you might want to keep an eye on what's happening. More info about this in the coming weeks.

What I'm wondering is, I would like to transfer a character but change its name on the new server... will it be possible to do that somehow in the transfer process? @ If you Create a Character with said Name or someone else uses the Name of your Character you'll get a -# added to your Character. As an example this would be Harvain-1. You'll then have a prompt allowing you to Rename your Character. So you can change said Character's name for free if you Create a Character on the new server, transfer Old Character, it'll get a -1 (or -2, etc.), and then can rename.
I don't understand how creating a new character with the same name reserves the name. Wouldn't that do the opposite? Now you have purposely blocked the name. You can't have 2 characters with the same name.
If we are talking Day 1 for VIPs-only what happens is that a VIP Account can create up to 3 Characters (not been stated if Per Server or Total as of January 20th, 2025) and "Reserve the Names". Then on Day 2 or later when you Transfer you'll have yourself all set & ready to rename the Character. If you delete the "Reserved Name Character", login to the Transferred Character you can then "Rename". The example would be "Harvain" for the "Reserve Name" and Transfer a Harvain over. The Transferred Harvain becomes Harvain-1. Then I can delete Reserve "Harvain", log into "Harvain-1" and rename said Character to Harvain. The other way is to "delete" and then Transfer on Day 2 or later and you'll just have the Character Named, example "Harvain". Only issue with this method is there "is" the possible risk that after Deleting the Reserve Character & Transferring that someone else might get said name. Using the "Create Reserve + Transfer + Delete Reserve + Rename Transferred Character" method is probably the one to use.
It would be a far better player experience to just migrate all the 32bit servers to 64bit servers. This is a headache what with name clashes, housing and kinship migration etc.

Are you on Agmar by any chance? I saw that kin name and I was like "Yep that isn't going to last a week" I had a solo kin on Landy called Lag of the Rings and it got changed by a GM to some elven bollocks. Also ate a 7 day suspension in world this week for.....profanity in world chat......that you can only see........if you DISABLE the profanity filter. Honestly, this community is full of people who CLEARLY sniffed glue as a teenager and have permanent brain damage. They report the dumbest stuff.

Fast Travel is not account based, the character has to have been played during vip. Why does he not know that? Well account status is what "unlocks" it but if you are not you only have swift travel on characters played during vip.
The current 10 Main Servers will most likely be closed either here in 2025 or 2026. Eventually the only choice for a "Free/Anyone" Server will be the upcoming 4 64-bit Servers.

@ They've talked about how the 10 Main 32-bit Servers along with Treebeard (Legendary Server) will be reviewed later in 2025 for what might need to be done with them. This means " Still Open or to be Closed". The SSG LOTRO Team are also "encouraging" and will continue encourage Players to go to the upcoming 64-bit Servers. It might not happen in 2025 but it's guaranteed that we will see the 32-bit LOTRO Servers close at a future date.
I'll be honest! I'm not interested in transferring! It's to much screwing around and I'm not renaming 20 alts! You guys have not thought this out! And the explanation of the process in this video is making it worse! Holy fail Batman!
It's not as bad as you make out. I've transferred before. It's pretty easy and that was like 10 years ago. It is way better now. You will be forced to move at some point in the near future as Windows server will stop supporting 32 bit machines. These 32 bit machines are a nearly 25 year old technology. Also if you don't want to rename everybody the sooner you go the more likely you get the names you want. This is a company that needs has infrastructure concerns and needs to make money. I'm sure all of those 20 alts are not VIP as well if any. I think your response is pretty unfair considering how much we get in this game literally for nothing.
Most of us will be leaving for the new servers so if the old ones get their population so low it's inconvenient for them to keep them up (which is very likely) you'll be forced to transfer anyway. Better doing things while they are free and you have a better chance to keep your character's names. The longer you wait, the slimmer the chances...
They’re dealing with a lot of old tech. No doubt that has something to do with how things being done. I’m pretty surprised daybreak games is still pouring money into the game.

So there is no reason not to transfer the most populated servers over in one shot and use them as the anchoring base for the new 64 bit servers! Then you have the lower population servers transfer into those! What they are doing now will fragment solid stable communities. Also, if what "you" are saying is true? Then Cord is KNOWINGLY lying about not forcing people to transfer. So which is it??? In a way it's potentially worse than I made it out to be, now isn't it?

The people who leave this game almost all state, it's the laggy game servers and an inability to alter some really basic game mechanics. Such as text size! None say the game itself or the player community is the problem and a lot would come back if they upgraded! So I realize this upgrade is long overdue! But the implementation of these transfers is where they are making a BIG mistake!!!

Just a thought. There is a cool plugin that uses an AI text to speech api to read NPC text to you. Can't remember the name at the moment...

You'll still transfer into the kin - they recognize you as the same character. A rose by any other name and all that. :)

I don't understand how creating a new character with the same name reserves the name. Wouldn't that do the opposite? Now you have purposely blocked the name. You can't have 2 characters with the same name.
If we are talking Day 1 for VIPs-only what happens is that a VIP Account can create up to 3 Characters (not been stated if Per Server or Total as of January 20th, 2025) and "Reserve the Names".
Then on Day 2 or later when you Transfer you'll have yourself all set & ready to rename the Character. If you delete the "Reserved Name Character", login to the Transferred Character you can then "Rename". The example would be "Harvain" for the "Reserve Name" and Transfer a Harvain over. The Transferred Harvain becomes Harvain-1. Then I can delete Reserve "Harvain", log into "Harvain-1" and rename said Character to Harvain.
The other way is to "delete" and then Transfer on Day 2 or later and you'll just have the Character Named, example "Harvain". Only issue with this method is there "is" the possible risk that after Deleting the Reserve Character & Transferring that someone else might get said name.
Using the "Create Reserve + Transfer + Delete Reserve + Rename Transferred Character" method is probably the one to use.

It would be a far better player experience to just migrate all the 32bit servers to 64bit servers. This is a headache what with name clashes, housing and kinship migration etc.

Are you on Agmar by any chance? I saw that kin name and I was like "Yep that isn't going to last a week" I had a solo kin on Landy called Lag of the Rings and it got changed by a GM to some elven bollocks. Also ate a 7 day suspension in world this week for.....profanity in world chat......that you can only see........if you DISABLE the profanity filter.
Honestly, this community is full of people who CLEARLY sniffed glue as a teenager and have permanent brain damage. They report the dumbest stuff.

Fast Travel is not account based, the character has to have been played during vip. Why does he not know that? Well account status is what "unlocks" it but if you are not you only have swift travel on characters played during vip.
All this is going to do is stretch the players even more apart so every world will have minimal people and it is going to hurt the original servers.
The current 10 Main Servers will most likely be closed either here in 2025 or 2026. Eventually the only choice for a "Free/Anyone" Server will be the upcoming 4 64-bit Servers.
@@harvain731 This is NOT right! Cord has repeatedly stated the 32bit servers will not be closed! If you are going to comment? You might want to actually watch the video! Because if they do that, then Cord has been lying about it for 2 videos and that could cause SSG no end of legal exposure.
@ They've talked about how the 10 Main 32-bit Servers along with Treebeard (Legendary Server) will be reviewed later in 2025 for what might need to be done with them. This means " Still Open or to be Closed".
The SSG LOTRO Team are also "encouraging" and will continue encourage Players to go to the upcoming 64-bit Servers.
It might not happen in 2025 but it's guaranteed that we will see the 32-bit LOTRO Servers close at a future date.
I'll be honest! I'm not interested in transferring! It's to much screwing around and I'm not renaming 20 alts! You guys have not thought this out! And the explanation of the process in this video is making it worse! Holy fail Batman!
It's not as bad as you make out. I've transferred before. It's pretty easy and that was like 10 years ago. It is way better now. You will be forced to move at some point in the near future as Windows server will stop supporting 32 bit machines. These 32 bit machines are a nearly 25 year old technology. Also if you don't want to rename everybody the sooner you go the more likely you get the names you want. This is a company that needs has infrastructure concerns and needs to make money. I'm sure all of those 20 alts are not VIP as well if any. I think your response is pretty unfair considering how much we get in this game literally for nothing.
Most of us will be leaving for the new servers so if the old ones get their population so low it's inconvenient for them to keep them up (which is very likely) you'll be forced to transfer anyway. Better doing things while they are free and you have a better chance to keep your character's names. The longer you wait, the slimmer the chances...
They’re dealing with a lot of old tech. No doubt that has something to do with how things being done. I’m pretty surprised daybreak games is still pouring money into the game.
@@davidrommel8109 First off, ALL 20 are VIP and I've been supporting this game financially for YEARS! And almost every dissenting response I've gotten so far is making my point for me! Just like you have. They are going to eventually FORCE everyone over to the 64 bit servers! So there is no reason not to transfer the most populated servers over in one shot and use them as the anchoring base for the new 64 bit servers! Then you have the lower population servers transfer into those! What they are doing now will fragment solid stable communities.
Also, if what "you" are saying is true? Then Cord is KNOWINGLY lying about not forcing people to transfer. So which is it??? In a way it's potentially worse than I made it out to be, now isn't it?
@@forestschneiter5832 I'm not surprised!!! They are making plenty of $$$ off LOTRO! That's why they are doing these upgrades. So they don't lose anymore players. The people who leave this game almost all state, it's the laggy game servers and an inability to alter some really basic game mechanics. Such as text size! None say the game itself or the player community is the problem and a lot would come back if they upgraded! So I realize this upgrade is long overdue! But the implementation of these transfers is where they are making a BIG mistake!!!
