I love to knit socks when we are on a road trip. It’s so easy to carry around and in the car it doesn’t take up so much room.
When I drive from LA to Vegas by myself, I like to listen to books on tape. I also have over 13 hours of tapings of my father on family history. I love listening to these the best.
Really? That is awesome! I'd love to have recordings of my grandparents to listen to. What a treasure!
So exciting to see the Castle Queens together again, I hope you will continue to come together when you can. ❤ You & Emily are a great team! ❤

Enjoyed watching Meanwhile at The Castle. I am a first time watcher and look forward to both Candy Shoppe and Salt City Knits. All that chalk must have been such an inspiration for yarn dying! I too have quilted in the pass, it was my Mom’s passion. I started knitting only after she passed away but I know she would have enjoyed seeing all the shawls and sweaters and socks I’ve made since.

Hi Deborah! We took a two month road trip in our trailer this past spring from Oregon and went as far as North Carolina and back. One of my favorite parts was knitting along the way and looking out at all of the beautiful country. I knit on socks, a half and half wrap, and a cowl. I hope you have a fun trip. I am a monogamous knitter so when I go away, I bring whatever project I am working on but I have, on occassion taken socks for the sake of convenience 😂. Hope you enjoyed your trip away!

Deborah I always enjoy your podcast, as someone that doesn’t have any family or close friends that knit, I love hearing about your knitting group, all the fun things you do together and how genero you are to each other. My 13 year old niece started crocheting last year, I have share ideas and yarn with her, so hopefully we can start our own little group. I love car knitting and I always bring a project along, most of the time socks. Enjoy your vacation!
That is a sweet idea, to start your own group with your niece. I am blessed to have found so many wonderful friends local to me, as well as online, who share the same love of knitting and crochet.

I enjoy your podcasts very much, thank you for the inspiration. I hope you had an enjoyable vacation this past week. Socks are a traveling must for me to have on hand for stops/breaks along the way. However, I sadly am not able to knit in a car too much motion for my head to handle LOL Thank you for your generosity and this opportunity. The one-of-a-kind color way is fun!!

Hi Deborah: I don’t know how to drive, so I am always the passenger! Eight years ago, I was able to knit. Nowadays, I can’t even look at my phone without getting a headache. Thus, I can no longer knit as a passenger, unfortunately!

I understand the struggle. I remember reading books for hours on road trips growing up. Just thinking about it now makes me feel ill. Thankfully, I don't really need to look at my knitting while in the car, as long as it's basic stockinette or ribbing.
I love the fall yarn colors I would make socks with them.

I also try to find an out of the way yarn shop on trips I take. I usually purchase yarn and other items to help commemorate the trip. Enjoy your upcoming trip!

When my family and I are on road trips nine times out of ten we are headed to the beach I will work on many things, I take with me all of the projects that I might be working on at the time. Socks, sweaters, shawls, and my favorite to have on the needles in the Musselburgh, I have made about 4 and on my fifth.
Love that! I saw a sign while traveling that read-
It doesn't matter how old you are, buying snacks for a road trip should always look like an unsupervised 9-year-old was given $100.
With inflation, that won't get you very far.

I've been thinking of knitting the Caidree sweater, I love the color you are using. When I'm on a road trip, I also enjoy small projects like socks or hats.

I really enjoy your podcasts so thank you for sharing them. I am primarily a sock knitter who over the summer has lost her sock mojo so I have been crocheting blankets but I can feel the sock mojo coming back. I have some Halloween sock yarn that I think I’d like to cast on. All of your yarn is beautiful, you are a talented dyer and maker, I love to see what you are knitting on💜
I have times where I just get burned out on knitting socks. I felt that way for most of this year, though I kept knitting them here and there, mostly from sock tubes. Now I want to knit them all the time again. Hopefully you do to!
Now socks or a dish cloth are my favorite thing to knit! I remember going on a trip when I was ten and I hadn’t knit for awhile and decided I was going to knit myself a scarf before I got to Pikes Peak. I didn’t make it😅

So lovely to watch your podcast, Deborah! I have done the same thing, tossing out a quilt I never completed as well as a few other craft projects, with regrets later. I have a few quilts I made and have worn through time but I refuse to part with them. Hoping to mend them at some point. Oh that row counter is just so cute! Thanks for sharing all your lovely makes.
Oh, that hurts doesn't it? I am always trying to clear out clutter and there are few things I regret getting rid of, but something like a quilt top is definitely a sad one.
Love your podcast. I have ordered your advent and I am so excited to receive it. This is my first advent. I take small projects on trips mainly socks. I am almost done with creating an advent calendar for my daughter where she will open a new pair everyday. I would love to use another of your beautiful creations.

If my trip involves a flight I always take a crochet project then it’s only one stitch to deal with. Then in the car I usually do socks 🧦.

I love all of your knits! The size 2 sweater is precious! I’ve always admired knitters who can do after thought heels….that is something I just am Leary of completing. Maybe someday….. I was behind in my viewing so I’m watching this at the near end of the month. I have no ideas for you, and for that I’m sorry. But that is a major issue with me. I have a lot of yarn, but never know what to knit with it. Perhaps I will try a shawl…perhaps a cowl…I just don’t know. Enjoy the rest of September. It was great seeing you!

Thank you for sharing your makings. On road trip I would knit up fingerless mittens. My daughter moved from Memphis to NC and now they are back at Jersey. We are older and 22 hours drive for us is way to long. We live in Missouri. Forget about flying to Newark just to overwhelming, to much going on. With the yarn i would have to think, the 3 grand girls socks or the 2 year old a sweater?… 🧐🥴
lol, I want to be a sock knitter way more than I actually am one. I prefer taking a mindless “in the round” (not a sock) project on the go. Typically a sweater or a cowl. My socks languish forever just a few rows here n there ish. I’ve been wanting to try the kinross 4ply for like 2 years now since Rebecca Clow spoke it up way back when. Happy to hear the hype duplicated!

Hi Deborah…I’m currently on a two week camping vacation and of course I have lots of projects with me. Determined to finish myFragmentation shawl as well as a few pair of socks I’ve started for Christmas gifts. I brought some hand sewing and paper crafting as well. ❤ I have a lovely package that will beat me home from this vacay…from Candy Shoppe Yarns! I can’t wait to see your fall yarns and to get knitting some socks with them. P.S. Last week I was blessed to drive my friend to Eureka, Ca and got to see those lovely Redwoods? Thought of you. 😊

I always enjoy your podcasts, Deborah! ❤ I always take more projects on a roadtrip than i need, but better to be safe than sorry, right?! ☺️ We went from Indiana to our daughter's in Boston last week. That's a long 14ish hour drive! 🥴 but we did it in 2 days time. I knit a Dandelion cardigan for my granddaughter on that trip. Just finishing it up today except for the buttons. I have an idea for your pairs of socks you've already knitted and then realized you only needed 1 for a shop sample. Do you have any kids or nieces that like to wear mismatched socks? If so, they could use the 2nd sock of the shop samples! Have a fun trip!! 🎊
Such a great idea to use the second sock of my shop samples! I don't know if anyone I know that wears a women's size 9 likes mismatched socks but I will be on the lookout now for someone who does.
