Poor Addie, I remember how special and real my baby dolls were to me. I loved my dolls so much and I remember losing my favorite one on the city bus once. I’m 35 and still not 100% over it 😂😂😂 so I completely sympathize with Addie. Sending love! ❤😊

I had a similar experience around the age of 7. I had this stuffed unicorn that i brought with me EVERYWHERE. When I went through security they had to check it cause it was one of those stuffed animals that u can heat in a microwave My friends brother was joking around and saying they were gonna cut it open which terrified me to life and my eyes were filled with tears. I feel Addies emotions ❤

I seriously felt addies anxiety and fear. Shout out to the tsa agent that tried to lighten the mood.
Jess literally said a few times that they were just doing their job and she was thankful for that so she acknowledged that in the video her daughter watched it happening and Jess was trying to comfort her and explain the process to her because she was visibly upset and for the male TSA agent to also try to comfort her and trying to lighten the mood is saying something because even he noticed how his coworker was handling it and how it was affecting Addie so kudos to him for trying to help the situation the lady could of taken a better approach 🤷🏼♀️

Jessica is the first to complain if people aren't doing their job and now she's complaining when people are doing the job because she did not do her job as a parent.

You would be surprised how many people hide things in kids toys and then get the kid to cry.
I mean it's a little girl and her baby the tsa held it by the doll neck and kinda had a small attitude she might of had a bad day we will never know but somthings could of been handled differently
She was rude and had less then desirable customer service behavior. I mean even one of her own coworkers called her out proving that this isn't how every tsa agent would handle this situation.
Jess did say she was happy the lady was checking the doll but the lady was being a little mean. She did not have to hold it by the neck in front of the crying six year old girl.

Some people really really don't like reborn dolls and you can't expect them to treat them as a real baby.. TSA wasn't rude, she was doing her job. It is just a toy in the end and not a real baby. She didn't throw it around or wasn't rough etc. She got it back in 1 piece without being damaged which is more than I can say travelling across the US.
She was a little rude tho based on the other comments on her attitude before even inspecting it and even her coworkers trying to make it a better experience. Not saying she was 100% wrong or rude, but to some extent she was.

@@Donna754 I make lifelike dolls for a job. (circa 2003;) You should come to an actual International doll show & experience the hundreds of realistic dolls that go through TSA. Most Agents are incredibly kind. But I ADORE the people that don’t like them the most😉
What most people don’t understand is that many people that collect them come from years if not decades of significant child loss, abuse & childhood trauma.
I’m not a Collector, but do sell to people around the world. I raised 4 kids as a single Mom & sculpted hyper realistic dolls for major Galleries. It’s been an honor. I wouldn’t change it for the world. Piss on anyone that doesn’t understand it. I give zero flying f^cks🥰
Addie is a 6-8 year old watching her baby doll go though TSA. I would cry too. She’s a child and that’s what they do when they see someone do that to a toy they really like.

I remember I had a doll like this when I was a kid and I asked my dad to hold it and he held it by his leg as we walked along. And when I realised I screamed and cried so much they couldnt calm me down. Baby dolls are so real for little kids. Poor Addie. 🥹

I think it’s amazing that Addie has Melody. I personally collect reborn dolls and Melody is absolutely precious! ❤ I would feel the same way as Addie if my baby was taken like that and handled so harshly. The glass beads can be concerning, but the one women could’ve handled the baby better, especially because I know how pricey these dolls can get. Hope Addie and Melody aren’t too shaken up by the experience! 😢 Enjoy your trip! ❤

The lady did nothing wrong. She is doing her job. She checked the doll as she was supposed to. She’s not going to cradle it like a newborn and support it’s head... do you know how busy TSA staff are? Maybe you should’ve explained to Addie the doll needed checked so it didn’t come as a surprise to her and made it seem like it was to see how the doll was feeling before the trip... or better still just tell her the truth and don’t make it a big deal but it isn’t a big deal

I'm sorry, I usually think Jess's dramatics are funny, but this one is rubbing me the wrong way. The lady wasn't being "mean" or "rude" at all, she was simply doing her job. I even went back to watch to see if I missed anything. In my opinion, Jessica made it worse by egging the situation on and talking about the woman in front of Addie. It's standard procedure, and maybe Addie should've been forewarned about what was going to happen with her baby.

This. I agree, Jess is usually funny, but this was just the guards following tsa rules. If something shows up even a little questionable on screening it has to be examined. I do see how it can be confronting for addie to see her baby being held by the neck, but again like you said it didn’t have to be escalated. I think Jess did a good job explaining it’s just to keep people safe, but she should’ve left it there
This is by no means the worst thing TSA agents has done. But you can do your job without an attitude especially when dealing with kids.

Nah, I'd be upset to if it upset my kid whether they were forewarned or not. Sure it's their job, but there's a child present, they could explain what their job is and not be rude about it.

TSA are SAFETY Officials. Their job is to find stuff to keep the staff on the plane safe. It’s a doll the Lady was just doing her job. TSA is not customer service, they are there for safety. We love TSA keeping us safe on the plane!

I’m glad Addie is learning empathy, emotional regulation and task management with Melody, however how can you expect for TSA to know how seriously Addie takes Melody? They see thousands of people a day they screen to help keep everyone safe. It’s not their job to know the background of each object they pull for inspection. For what they deal with I think it was handled very well by TSA
Your argument kinda falls a little flat tho when even one of her coworkers called her out on how he handled the doll. So they obviously do see the difference in how to make it a good experience for adults vs kids.

Don’t worry, what happened to Addie’s doll happens all the time when people fly with reborns. They always x-ray questionably because of how they are weighed inside. They have to swab them for traces of narcotics and scan them several times. Some will even take limbs or the head off to look inside.
@Faye Du Adult collectors don’t think they are real. If they make videos with them like a “day in the life” style, they are only role playing. Acting. Collectors aren’t crazy, it’s just their hobby. Maybe not mainstream, but it’s their special interest. No harm in that.

You should just tell her “next time we know that melody has to go through security on her own and they’ll double check her too but we’ll remind them to be very careful with her”. That way you’re not ignoring what happened but you’re also not upsetting Addie even more.
She's not fueling her emotions, she's acknowledging and validating them while she also numerous times told her that they are just checking her out to make sure everything is ok and safe.

Jess is doing it through the videos since Addie got the baby doll , Addie has learned somewhere to treat the doll like a real baby. Look at the baby clothes and the crib bedding set. I get you teach your children compassion for human beings but but buying the items makes no sense.

2. What is biased about telling your own opinion about an interaction you had?
As a collector of reborns it breaks my heart that hers is mistreated. They are very expensive and one of a kind items. Also be careful about the rooted hair and varnish on the kit itself, the hair can and will fall out along with the varnish being worn off from the oils on your hands.
I’d also suggest you open it up and stuff the body tighter so the head doesn’t flop as much. With the way she holds it most of the time you can get tearing in the body from the floppiness. (Cut the zip tie that is holding on the head, take the head off, add poly fluff, place head back on, insert new tie, zip and clip excess.

As a collector of baby reborns do you feel they are an appropriate item for a small child? This is a genuine question as I thought the community was mostly adult doll collectors and that these were not made to be played with. But I could be wrong. I collect other sorts of dolls but don’t know a lot about these. I’m curious what the opinions are on kids having them.
@@cateyes8588 so I am very back and forth on it. From a collector standpoint, I cringe watching how it gets held and played with. They are expensive as the kits are hand sculpted then mass produced along with custom hand painting and rooting. I have seen complete dolls for for upwards of $10,000. Now that was a very famous artist but still. My cheapest doll was $150, that’s a lot for a child’s toy. Many times a collector can sell the collection if need be but a child’s toy has almost no resale value in the community.
On the other hand my dolls have helped immensely with my mental health and can for others too. The weight calms your mind and puts you in a relaxed state because it thinks it’s a real baby and that you need to be calm(the floppiness and weight). I have also used mine to curb extreme baby fever and know many collectors that use them to deal with empty nest syndrome or infertility issues/infant loss.
There is also a lot of stigma around them as it’s sad that the child my end up within that. Addy dealt with that at the airport. Our community has been called ped@files, crazy, creeps and much more because we treat them with care. It’s tough when you see children with them and then reborns get branded as “childish”.
I can see how they would benefit a child’s imagination and truthfully wish I had known about them sooner. I just feel like they really aren’t suitable for a first doll or a young child just because it is an investment. If the child is responsible and gentle while playing it can work out wonderfully.

I feel like they could be amazing to a kid that understands the art form that they are. An 8-12 year old has a better understanding of how to truly appreciate and treat a doll like that. It’s hard seeing someone pass it off to young kids especially because of the wear and tear that can happen. If not properly maintained (ie restuffed, weight bags redistributed, varnish reapplied) they can and will fall apart. My personal dolls need to be revarnished due to me handling them normally. I just hope that the money they spent/ will spend isn’t too much.
Can’t expect a grown adult to treat it like a real baby its just a doll and you got it back in one peice and as someone who finds reborns creepy i definitely wouldn’t be treating it like a living thing maybe dont let her watch the doll being checked if its a issue for her but the lady definitely wasn’t rude about it
I thought something worse was going to happen. My mom made a doll for my good friends daughter, gave it to her the night before they flew home….TSA thought it was stuffed with drugs and proceeded to shred the whole body with a knife while the little girl screamed and cried. They ended up having to throw the whole doll away 😢

I am completely rubbed the wrong way by this whole TSA situation… IT’S A DOLL. It is NOT TSA’s job to entertain your kid… They are BUSY worrying about your SAFETY! Plus they have a stressful job. Have some empathy. She wasn’t rude. It’s quite literally a doll. You should’ve explained to Addie what was going to happen to her DOLL since you said “you knew it would be pulled.” This is just so irritating. People, especially TSA workers & other professionals in public, do not owe playtime to your kid. The entitlement is unreal.
And she literally did explain it several times while also validating Addies feelings. And no one says they have to entertain kids but as an adult in a public facing job you could and should at least show some compassion and there's no need to have a bad attitude. Her coworker calling her out also shows how she handled that interaction with a literal child isn't how every agent would have handled it. And just holding the doll in a different way wouldn't have made her job take any more time or done it any more difficult.

And this whole situation isn’t that bad compared to what has been done before, but this was a child she interacted with. I know it's hard to see your kid upset, but this is ridiculous. The tsa agent was literally doing her job, she didn't damage the doll or have an attitude. She simply didn't go above and beyond to appease your kid. I was roughly pulled aside for a pat down as a little kid after setting off the metal detector several times, turned out I had smuggled a small tin of mints in a hidden pocket. My parents calmed me down and gave me a lesson on airport safety. Learn from this experience and distract Addie next time. Painting her as a villian will only teach your children to have false expectations.

Ugh. That sucks. I know I would have been upset if that happened to me as a kid. To Addie, that doll is real and everything to her. I had a bitty baby that I remember taking everywhere like Addie does with her reborn. I also understand the concern with the TSA agent holding Melody by her head. That is so not kind in front of a young girl and reborns are soo expensive! They are fragile and should be held properly even if it is "just a doll".

The inherent racism present from all these commenters and from the video content itself claiming that a Black TSA agent has “an attitude” for doing her job and doing nothing wrong is so disappointing. Stop perpetuating stereotypes and lacking empathy for those with a stressful job. She did nothing wrong. Y’all need to do some self-reflection. I’m not a commenter often but this is just too much.
It doesn't always have to be about race. White people, black people and asian people etc can all have a bad attitude or a bad day at work without it being about their skin color. You shouldn't be exempt from criticism based solely on your skin color. This was the experience of a six year old girl that got upset about her doll, she would have been equally upset no matter who handled it in that way and therefore we would have heard about her feelings no matter the skin color of the employee.

That’s one opinion….I disagree entirely. Those dolls are expensive, and the heads can pop off and you don’t hold ANY doll by the neck in front of the little kid that doll belongs to. Addie would have been so upset if she had broken her doll by decapitating it in front of her. I always got my daughter little cheap toys to take on trips. Our good toys stayed home. I was called mean more than once. But now at 26 she still has her special baby dolls and can't wait to pass them on to her children and she doesn't think I was mean anymore. L

May I make a suggestion, I am very familiar with reborn dolls I have 7 total and everyone that is in the reborn community recommends that if you are going to fly with Melody, contact the reborn artist and get a zip lock bag with a sample of the glass beads and carry them with you so you can show TSA this way you can go through without a problem. I hope this helps. Oh and another tidbit never ever put them in the suitcase under the plane
That doesn’t always work. Just because you show them a sample of what’s in the toy doesn’t mean they’ll just take your word for it and not inspect it.
