Claire Nouvian | ESSEC iMagination Week Master in Management 2024 - Imagination to survive

iMagination Week is a program from ESSEC Business School dedicated to imagination and creativity. From August 8th to January 12th, 2024, we proposed to students of Master in Management programme to work on the following theme: "shaping a desirable future"
Claire Nouvian is a renowned French environmentalist who devotes her life to protecting the ocean and fighting the primary cause of its destruction: industrial fishing. Claire has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Goldman Prize, described as the environmental equivalent of the Nobel Prize. She founded the NGO ‘BLOOM’ at the end of 2004, which has become France's leading organization for the protection of the ocean and marine life.
BLOOM conducts scientific research, legal action, advocacy and citizen mobilization to achieve systemic changes in fishing practices. BLOOM secured a ban on deep-sea bottom trawling in Europe in 2016, as well as an EU-wide ban on electric fishing in 2019. BLOOM is now seeking to obtain true ‘Marine Protected Areas’ by banning bottom trawling, as well as aiming to ensure the survival of artisanal fishing which is threatened by industrial fishing lobbies.
