Frontman Jared Leto wrote this mainly instrumental march in India. It was inspired by a funeral pyre in Varanasi, a city on the banks of the Ganges where they have been cremating bodies on the river for about 5,000 years. He told Purevolume: "It's an incredibly intense place. There were bodies being burned everywhere, bodies going through a funeral procession and being left in the river Ganges. So although it's about death, there's something beautiful about it as well, and something that makes you think about life itself and how magical life can be."
This song is truly a perfect piece of LLF+D. I don't know what was happening in Jared's head while he was writing this, but for me this song it's like a mystery. Thumbs up for this song.
listened to this masterpiece 9 years ago. still on my playlist, still overwhelms me whenever I listen to it! This music transcends above elements of reality.
Love this piece of music. Disappointed to find out it wasn't Jared on vocals...I think he could've pulled it off with his amazing voice. In my opinion, 30stm best album yet!
This is Classical Indian singing,we usually call it Ragas and Ravi Shankar(Grammy WInner) and Anoushka Shankar(Grammy winner also) are very well known, but we have many other singers :)
Well, this is a masterpiece. This is not just a song, it's deep music. If you don't get this, you can't understand them really. Artists grow up, did you knew?
Do or Die, City of Angels. this is pretty much an instrumental, rather than a single. Those two make the album what it is in my opinion, and that's Mars' future. I think it's the future and if you don't like it, then I think that's your opinion and how you feel about music, but I don't think you can really follow Mars if you don't end up just naturally recognising them in everything they do, even if it's pop or synth, or classical, opera, reggae, whatever style they come out with next, there will always be Jared's emotional and spiritual nature in the song, so even if I don't like the song I still love it.

Anyone ever think that this song was heavily inspired by Inon Zur's work?
this song sounds like the music of a movie trailer
