Pierce Brosnan (before he played James Bond) is a scientist using VR to unlock the brains true potential. When he fills Jobe, the local gardener, with intelligence enhancing drugs and throws him into a VR world, he quickly becomes brilliant.
Unfortunately, the technology proves dangerous when Jobe starts displaying powers and begins to take revenge on the townsfolk who have wronged him...

The title of the film was taken from a Stephen King short story, but King's credit was removed after a lawsuit. The film has almost no similarities to the original story except its title... and a lawnmower...

Can't honestly say I remember seeing this movie.
The FIRST corporate sci fi film was ROBOCOP IN 1987 (88 in the U.ks case) so many times its been used again in the same Sci Fi genra- RUNNING MAN, TOTAL RECALL, INCREDIBLE HULK even but never with quite the same impact.
But I DID like LAWNMOWER MAN as something differant, often it felt like 1977s CARRIE film to me, which also built to an explosive ending.
Oh, my gosh - I haven't thought of this film in decades. I do recall it being an absolute hoot though, so I'm going to have to give it another watch now. Thanks....? :)

This Stephen King novel to movie I haven’t seen since the vhs days 😬, “The Lawnmower man” is a missing title from the collection of Stephen King titles that I’ve collected over the years, & movies like this would be outdated but that’s the charm to them I guess in using what they could with the best technology at the time.
I recently watched “Virtuosity” which was okay for me, so I wonder if this is a movie on my wanted list but if cheap & available I’d like to revisit. Thanks for revisiting this one 👍
Hi Carlos, yeah I love seeing an early 90's look at what they thought Virtual Reality was going to be capable of... When this first came out I thought it was the coolest thing, certainly compared to my sega mastersytem or my Amiga 500! haha... Always enjoy a pre bond Brosnan also. I remember enjoying Virtuosity but thinking it was an odd role for Denzel to take on, will have to rewatch it soon. Take care buddy.
