I honestly think the change in the voice acting makes this a pass for me by itself, currently. The original Athena VA is, genuinely, iconic, and the other VAs almost all gave performances filled with character. These look to be as flat and directionless as, well...as the AoE2DE vocal performances, unfortunately--I suspect Gargarensis and Ajax will REALLY suffer from this, and Arkantos already just doesn't have the same fire (look at the the gulf in delivery for the "This errand will not take long", as an example--the original Theocrat also gave a performance that helped support later plot developments on re-play). It genuinely seems like first-time script reads, and that once again "accurate accents" are being prioritized over quality. (Which is also a bit silly because, you know, Atlantis never existed--and the other languages likely sounded different given we're dealing with over two millennia ago.) I could look past the *severe* downgrade in performance quality in AoE2DE enough to still buy it because of everything else on offer, but it doesn't seem like that will apply here. Pretty disappointing to have IMO worse art and worse acting two decades later. (I do appreciate the video from Ornlu, to be clear, and will keep checking in to see if somehow later scenarios pick it up or add something sufficiently worthwhile. But I felt like sharing my reaction to the actual game on offer as well, and to my own disappointment, it's pretty firmly negative. I fundamentally disagree with the management/development choices seemingly on display here.)
The more I see of the remaster, the less I want to buy it. Some very strange decisions when it comes to the campaign/story, which was the best part of the game for me
Jesus this voice acting is terrible. And i'm not talking about the interruptions, just the voice tones irks me off. The original at least felt more serious. Athena's original voice was more melancholic, showing worry for a champion fighing his past in his dreams, a woman worried about a wary and worn down man. This one? Feels disconnected and condescending... It doesn't fit.
Ugh, same issue with the voices that AoE2 DE had. I don't know why they decided to change a beloved set of VAs again. I'm not playing these games for authentic accented voices, I like the vibes of the old ones. I can't believe they didn't take any feedback from AoE2 DE where people complained at how unemotive the new VAs were, and instead did the same here.
@@ethan1142028 "invented by the British" yes, before the Greek War of Independence the Peloponnese was empty and had absolutely no one there. Modern Greek Nationalism might have been "invented" by the Brits, but the Greek Language and Greek People were *not* invented. They were always there, speaking their evolution of *their* language. So it is more authentic to have Achaeans speaking modern Greek than some Americans. Is this authenticity vital? That's a different argument.
@@ConscriptDavid Because modern Greek is as linguistically distant from achaen Greek as English is... the only difference is your 19th century "Greeks" happen to live in the land called Greece
@@ethan1142028 Holy shit imagine being so wrong. Modern Greek is not that linguistically different from Homeric Greek. While naturally there are many changes with the transitioning from Ancient Greece to Koine Greece to early Medieval and modern Greece, its silly to pretend somehow English, A West Germanic language is as close to Ancient Greece as a modern Hellenic language! The relation between modern Greeks and Ancient Greeks is perhaps often more viewed trough the problematic lenses of Nationalism, but to deny that the modern Greeks and the Modern Greek languages have a significant connection to the Ancient Greeks is ludicrous and a-historical. God, this almost sounds like one of those deranged Balkan nationalist rants.
I don't mind giving the characters a Greek or corresponding accent, but regardless, this voice acting is clearly inferior... The delivery of the lines lacks confidence and pacing, feels kinda like students reading a play.
Overall, I'm real hype for Retold, but the voice acting is not doing it for me. I do appreciate the Greekness, but the VAs aren't selling me. The inflections are mostly off (although Arkantos is doing a pretty good job). For instance, Krios doesn't sound old or wise
The graphics are disappointing to me. Yes it looks like AOM which is good, but to me the graphics update is almost on the same level as the one of Aoe2:HD.
Wait what, why did they change voices? Omg, Arkantos, Athena and basically everyone was so characteristic and amazing... I knew something's gonna disappoint me, what a waste
Man.. I'll admit I'm not that much into age of mythology, mostly because I simply didn't play it much and I mostly stuck with AoE2 but the quality in display is.. not enticing me to play XD Even with your commentary and all.
The voice acting, though well done, is not as good as the original. Something can be well done but not fit. IE putting a yellow wooden table in a room themed around black and white. The table itself could be phenominal, but it doesnt fit in the room. Thats how I feel about the voice acting. Athena doesnt sound like a god(dess) and Arkantos doesnt have the vitriol he sounds like he has in the original. Overall disappointed so far. As for the look, it both looks amazing and terrible at the same time. The backgrounds and environments are great if not too bright. The models are kind of just...low quality? They're clearly nice but the contrast of the portrait and the models in the cutscenes is immersion breaking and makes the models look weird
"This errand will not take long" yeah sure Arkantos... sure ...
Not sure how I feel about the voice acting being changed. It might be due to nostalgia though... Either way glad to see you play the campaign!
It just doesn't feel the same with different voice acting
Athena's voice doesn't have that other-worldly sound to it here. The orignal voice had this reverb added to it that gave it that effect.
@@ashwith The original "Arkantos, awaken" has such a vibe and I am saddened to see it gone, still going to try and refamiliarize with it though.
The new voice actors are absolute dogshit ngl
@@matheusbarbosa4438I read someone then most of these are ai voices and will get updated when the game drops fingers crossed
I can't help but notice that Atlantis isn't located in the Atlantic in anymore. Not really a fan of that.
Athena is the godess of wisdom, so she already knows what arkantos is going to say. Thats why she interrupt him in the initial dialogues.
I like the accent but they miss the theatrical exaggerations that give a mythical feel to the dialogur
Ornlu on the AoM campaign...these are strange times.
Hopefully there'll be a mod to replsce the voice acting with the old ones
I have a bad feeling about this...
About the UI or the confused unit stats?
The original Arkantos sounded like George Washington from AOE3.

The original voice of Arkantos was quite powerful. Nevertheless AoM old or new, I will enjoy playing it and watching it 😎👍
The more I see of the remaster, the less I want to buy it. Some very strange decisions when it comes to the campaign/story, which was the best part of the game for me
OG Arkantos hit different I guess, maybe it's nostalgia
Finally ornlu is back. Plz do a lot of aoe 2 de custom campaigns
Yes, there was a town center in the original campaign mission.
I can't believe I lived long enough to see this.
What a Nostalgia.. Ornlu could you please make the music a bit louder adn the battle sound less loud? The music is as nostalgic as the game
Prostagma
Im still happy about the remake but the speech bubbles do look cheap.
Have you repaired your buildings? The buildings repair themselves without villagers repairing them.
Arkantos look strange
A small errand that shouldn't take long. If only Arkantos knew just the kind of rabbit hole he is about to sail into.
3:16 the Kraken doesn't actually grab the soldier, a desync in VFX. Not sure if they'll fix that.
omg thank you so much for playing my fav game from my infancy
I plan on getting this on gamepass when it become available
Graphics look great. As for the Cutscenes they seem to be bit off but I am hoping in the final product they get fixed.
petroboli are more like stone throwers from AOE1 than mangonels.
Original one have TC but not on this one.
I honestly hoped there were cinematics like the ones in Warcraft 3, sigh. at least they could redo the voices for the campaign with new actors
Holy shit they changed the voices? 0% chance I'll be buying this
Edit: and they got rid of the world map for campaign selection? WTF?
I replayed AoM campaign like a year or 2 ago. Im not really into multiplayer. kind of sad now that it is the same camppaign :(
Athena sounds Spanish. I do miss the old voice though - there was something....about it.
Here immediately 🎉
What is your pc configuration sir?

Oh mans!
I hope that if god powers are on cool down that they rework ceasefire. Otherwise it will ruin mp
It is on a cooldown, and you have an increasing favor cost with each use. Honestly, I think it's a good change
Infinite Fimbulwinter doesn't sound good.
The color palette is a bit worse and the portraits in the cutscenes look like Ai's work, but overall it looks good so far.

Is the Tale of the Dragon campaign included?
Nope. We pretend that one didn't exist 11
You gonna continue the DS AoE2 campaigns?
Nah, they weren't very popular
Everyone is having a Greek accent. Definitely feels authentic.

But they focused on accents! That is apparently the most important, not giving iconic narration and emotions (remember Huns campaign in AoE2DE?)...
