To be a little fair to the bride, if you're on THAT restrictive of a diet you're very likely going to be bathroom bound if you suddenly just start in-taking a lot of the stuff you normally don't eat. That said I'd have at least had normal food prepared for the guests. Especially since it'd be less expensive than buying boxes of those specialty snacks. 😬

It seems to me that she planned it so she could eat everything at her wedding. I’m diabetic and I’ll tell you I would happy as a pig in mud if I went to this wedding. All of the sugar free options she pick I’ve tried and LOVE. No major intestinal effects, great taste, great texture. I haven’t tried the Unreal chocolate, but I trust her judgment at this point. I don’t think she has to accommodate other diets just like I’ll bet she can’t eat everything at a wedding she’d attend. I don’t see this as different from a vegetarian wedding. The dog video: my grandfather adopted a mutt. It was the cutest bottlebrush ever and he very quickly noticed girls loved his dog. So being the teenager he was, he taught his dog to walk up to girls and act cute. All that little mutt needed was to be told “Look, girls!” and off he’d go.
It’s actually how he managed to meet my grandmother. Her father never allowed her to have pets. One of the things she made my grandfather promise before agreeing to marry him, was that she’d never have to turn an animal away from her house. This turned their home into the unofficial shelter in their area. He worshipped the ground she walked on, she was the love of his life. When she passed he never remarried. “I’ve had the best. Why try for second best?”

      @eddavanleemputten9232 7 місяців тому +5

@@Ravenna.E.Blackbird - Too many to count. As my grandmother would constantly be taking in strays, it wasn’t rare for some of them to be pregnant. At times they’d end up with several litters of puppies and kittens simultaneously, bringing the momentary count up to as many as 30-odd dogs and 30-odd cats. They’d gave their ‘core’ of ‘permanent’ dogs and cats that would always be around 3 to 6 of each, the rest would be nursed back to health, socialised and re-homed. Some times a Mama would be so far gone she’d pass and everyone would have their ‘shift’ in taking care of the babies if they couldn’t get adopted into an existing litter. The adults would take the night feedings (my grandparents, my great-grandmother and the live in maid) and the ‘shifts’ during school hours. The kids (my Mom, her 2 sisters and her brother) would take turns after school. The dogs operated as a pack which made socialising easier: within days any new arrivals felt safe and knew not just the rules of the house but the pecking order. There were certain rules set in stone:
During ‘human meal tiles’ pets don’t exist. They’re NOT to be fed, petted or paid attention to unless there’s an emergency.
Four-legged/furry/feathered creatures ALWAYS give the right of way to humans, let them go first, etc.
If an animal is on the furniture and a human wants that spot, the animal moves.
Food bowls were set out in a fixed order and everyone waits for the command to start eating.
Bath time is not optional. Neither is any other grooming practice.
If there is any fighting or conflict resolution of any kind to be done, it’s done by the adult humans of the household. If there’s none around, a pack member goes to get one. (That one never needed to be taught, my grandmother was a formidable woman with a strong personality and no creature ever questioned her, so kids would send a dog out if there was trouble).
When a human yells “done!” it means that any activity that is going on, stops. Immediately. Play, petting, play-fighting, running, …
When told to let go, you let go of whatever is in your mouth. Drop it and move on.
All dogs learn to walk on a leash without pulling.
Big dog or small, no jumping on humans unless invited to. (Well, except when protecting but that’s another matter entirely).
As my grandparents grew older, their kids moved out and they relocated, the pet count grew smaller. Part of it was that they knew keeping so many would impact the quality of their care. There are no compromises on that. Food, vet bills, attention, exercise… all need to be good.
Before anyone asks: all the kids grew up to love animals as well and either have, or have had a long string of pets. So have all the grandkids.
I’ve “only” got two dogs and one cat right now. They know and abide by those same rules. They’re my babies, I love them to bits but I’m the boss. Then comes my daughter. Then come the ‘familiar humans” who frequently visit. My pets are allowed to signal a visitor (any visitor) but as soon as I tell them to shut up, they need to zip it. They’re allowed to keep their distance, be distrustful/wary, or slide in for pets but no means no.
Thanks to my grandmother loving animals so much and my grandfather training dogs for military purposes, I grew up in a household where pets were loved but knew their place. I’ve got a lot to thank her for. That lady had an amazing talent with animals.

The for real kind of trigger.
I suffered from an eating disorder for years.
It’s like looking into a funhouse mirror of what I used to be.
I’m immediately brought back to thinking food is the enemy. Getting such a bad relationship with food that everything tastes like dirt because I’ve associated food with bad feelings and thoughts.
I really hope this is just for show and not her whole life.

I get it. I have severe food allergies, too. I couldn’t serve my guests what I eat, it wouldn’t be fair. To me, I think it’s fair to chose to serve something that suits you - I would have a version of what everyone else would eat. For my daughters birthday, we only serve foods she can eat, it’s a way of honouring her. But I wouldn’t make the wedding about food- food is fuel, it can be lovely, but that’s not what a wedding is about. One small beef is when I find it infuriating when people refer to things as ‘allergen free’, when they things they’re pointing to are things I can’t eat- like those sweets that she advertised. The thing that got me most were the ‘bloat’ tablets on the tables. If you’re bloating that severely from your food, you’re eating the wrong things, you’re sick, and you need to go to a doctor to find out what is wrong. Putting them on your wedding tables are a sign of a seriously screwy relationship with food.

Sugar-free wedding cake? Ewww. I can see having a separate SF cake for people who can't eat sugar, but I bet most attendees weren't thrilled. Some artificial sweeteners make me feel terrible; I get headaches from aspartame; and sucralose, maltitol and sorbitol may not digest properly for a lot of people, and can cause explosive diarrhea. I hope she put some bottles of Imodium on the tables next to the bloat pills.

When I was a teenager, the others in our church group kept talking about a birthday party they all went to and at first it was a bummer because I hadn’t been invited but it turned out the ENTIRE discussion was the homemade pizza with wheat germ crust ya boy’s momma had served. I do believe this can be a success but in this case… it wasn’t. In the end, I didn’t feel I had missed out. See, THAT to me is what happens when a health nut throws a party. Epilogue: I laater went on a date with the birthday boy. He invited me to an art opening his mom had gotten a free invitation to where wine was served from a big jug and the world’s classiest guy bragged about finding two Ansel Adams photos at a roadside diner which he got for pennies from the lovely older couple who ran the joint, because they didn’t know what they had. Then the two of us went to a movie where he bought my ticket and just bought himself snacks (we had not gone to dinner before the art show and this was back when you expected the guy to pay), and then I got to hear about the hilarious time he hurt his knee all the way back to my house. No second date.

Diabetics can eat basically EVERYTHING, they just have to be smart about it , and adjust their insulin intake.
For example he eats everything together at parties, waiting hours would get complicated so the kitchen brings him what he wants in the beginning.
      And no alcohol.

@@bettersecret1499 t1D here. It is very true about being able to eat everything, as long as you're able to calculate the insulin/carb ratio!
It's just insanely annoying imho at weddings. No one has the package available so I can read the ingredients. It always causes a miscalculation resulting in a hypo or hyper which messes me up for the entire day. I just decided to stay away from unpackaged stuff and learned to take my own "safe foods" with me. 😂

    • @mick-my-binary
      @mick-my-binary Рік тому +5

@@PastelKaiju t1D isn't restrictive. T2D often is, as those people often start with medicine instead of insulin, so they have a restricted diet to prevent massive highs, and to take some exhausting stress off of the beta cells/insulin insensitivity.
T1D can eat whatever whenever because they're fully insulin dependent anyway - as long as they calculate it properly, we can eat cake all day long!
T2D however are often the opposite and docs want them to stay off of insulin as long as possible which is often done by special diets, Metformin or those enzym (don't know the name anymore, that medicine that's currently being promoted as a weightloss scam) injections.
ETA; some t1D (the ones who don't produce insulin at all) *sometimes* are on a restrictive diet because
      A) they're newly diagnosed and figuring out their suddenly changed world
      B) to combat insulin insensitivity
      C) because they're on mix insulin that requires you to eat specific stuff at specific times.

Yeah I don't see much of an issue with it based on just the list of foods - if these kinds of founds are what the couple normally eat and enjoy, it makes a ton of sense to serve a fancy version at the wedding. If there's many guests with intolerances etc it's nice for them as well. I feel like this is similar to not serving alcohol on your wedding if the couple doesn't drink and doesn't like drunk people... Why should they serve food they won't eat themselves just because some people feel entitled to what they associate with party food?

All the people complaining about "The Little Mermaid" should read the original story. When she walks, it feels like knives cutting into her feet. Eric marries someone else. And in the end, she walks into the sea, turns into foam and DIES. So, yeah, Disney changed it quite a bit. In 1989!
One if the nice things about being middle aged is that when i ask someone if i can pet their dog they don't try to hit on me. 😊
