The Pharmacist skits were the most memorable of the Fridays series, at least for me. I loved the Halloween episode when the Pharmacist had to deal with Trick-or-Treaters!
"Jekyl and Hyde... Together Again" is one of my favorite movies of all time. I have recently been trying to find a Mark Blankfield fan club, or interviews, or whatever I could find. This is awesome. Thank you for posting it!
You know, I always wondered how he never appeared on Seinfeld when so many of his other contemporaries from this show did. If anybody was completely suited to play one of Kramer's buddies, Mark Blankfield was.
One of Fridays' most funniest characterizations. Mark Blankfield playing a spaced out pharmacist in those Drugs R' Us sketches. I got great belly laughs watching this warped personality.
Sad that this was their last episode ever. A lot of great minds put this together and really put SNL to shame. ABC, in its devolution, decided a news program with bad hair piece was more important.
@@bigsparky8888 Maybe not the 1970s SNL, but it was funnier than the 1980s one with that terrible season six cast (barring Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo, since they survived NBC trying to retool SNL. Shame they didn't keep Denny Dillon and/or Gail Matthius) But not SCTV. That show was gold, even when it temporarily lost John Candy and Catherine O'Hara, then moved to NBC, then moved back to Canada, then was cut down to four cast members and put on Cinemax.
"I CAN HANDLE IT! I CAN HANDLE IT!" HA HA HA HA HA HA HAHA HAHA HAHAHAHAHAHA! I MISS THIS! YOU JUST CAN'T DO SHIT LIKE THIS THESE DAYS!! THE PHARMACIST ROCKED!!!!!!
Actually, he made guest appearances on many well-known TV series in the 80s and 90s and he even starred in several lesser known movies. He just never had the big break the Fridays producers thought he'd get (from what I understand, Michael Richards and Mark here were expected to be Fridays' breakout stars).
Mark Blankfield as the strung out pharmacist on FRIDAYS. I loved that show- even if it partially interfered with watching SCTV. I was reciting it all summer long- even if people didnt know what I was talking about : " I can take it, I can take it, TAKE A PILL!"
To the folks seeing this for the first I can understand where some of you don't see this funny, but you had be during the time it was release and being in the earlier 80's to appreciate this. I don't think Fridays ever compared to SNL but it gave them a good run for their money, It was funny back then...
Wow Mark was going for it in this sketch. I had a touch of deja vu when Mark began clawing at his face. Reminded me so much of the scene from Poltergeist were the cameraman was in the bathroom and began ripping his face off at the mirror. God Melanie was so smoking hot on this series. I was a teenage boy in love with her.
I can't believe this! My family has joked about "those old pharmacist skits from Friday's" for years. How about the one where the transvestite comes in for sapositories (sp!)?
My fave was "Jeckyl & Hyde Together Again" in which he gives a all out Pre-Jim Carrey perfect performance and totally needs looked at in this era. Back in those days, it was too over the top but in the "Airplane" genre of the Zucker's this movie fits in nicely and is wonderful in it's direction, the B&W change, the musical performance, it rules. Check it out.
Being around back then and saw it on regularly. Friday's was LOT funnier than Saturday Night Live! By 100%. Sadly though Fridays didn't get into a proper groove or format if that makes sense. And wasn't renewed.
Yes, this was good at the time--in fact, great, because no other comedy show did this kind of edgy stuff--culture clashes, drugs, edgy stuff that other shows didn't handle in this way. Orthodox Jews as James Bond-types? Who else would have done that? Larry David and Michael Richards of Seinfeld--kings of comedy were on this show.
Aside from the fact that it really offended my stepmother at the time, there was really nothing about this character that appealed to me all that much. It was one of those ideas that was kind of funny the first time but not funny enough to keep bringing back over and over.
Good at the time maybe, if you were there. But this has aged terribly. Over the top characterisations and weak script. And at six minutes plus, far too long for this one joke sketch to be stretched.

No the second most memorable ❤M❤E❤L❤O❤N❤I❤E❤ weekend update was the most memorable ❤❤❤

I remember this from back when it came out, but whenever i have mentioned the catch phrase no one remembers TAKE A PILL YOU CAN HANDLE IT! LOL
YEAHHHH...FRIDAYS...THE PHARMACIST BIT...HILARIOUS..." IT ALMOST BURNED ME UP!!!"

It was funny all those yrs ago and it still is. This has been a treat watching these again.
That character always cracked me up. He was always saying, "Take a PILL!" for any ailment.
Which what is funny is that our society now they have a pill for everything
For years I've been trying to remember where I got the "I can handle it" anxiety phrase.
This show was just the best!
I remember this sketch and how funny that I used to watch this when I was stoned lol
when this aired, I had 42 days left as a teenager.........fuck,..like to have those times back.........this was a cool show
man i used to love this show.
That's awesome! My son was in special ed...I wish he had been his teacher, he would have loved it!
Sad that this was their last episode ever. A lot of great minds put this together and really put SNL to shame. ABC, in its devolution, decided a news program with bad hair piece was more important.
It just couldn't compete with SNL...GILDA RADNER...CHEVY CHASE...BALUSHI...ALL THE GREATS...GOOD STUFF FUN AND FUNNY!!!

This show blew SNL away . It was simply the BEST !!
classic show, that helped mold my sense of humor that I use to this day
" I can handle it !" Lol

This brought back some memories!
High School Days......Hard to believe it had been almost 30 years..........
Mark Blankfield as the strung out pharmacist on FRIDAYS.

The greatest sitcoms of all times....will always love this show....got to..got to...got to...get..it..to...gether....
NOT a sitcom. Jeiz
I can handle it!! HaHa. I say it to myself all the time remembering the Friday's Pharmacist. Way ahead of its time.
Me too -- then I have to explain where it comes from lol
"Are there any cobwebs on my face?"

The best Fridays episode was the one with Genie Francis & Tony Geary, it is on You Tube.
I was so happy when ha movie was finally released on DVD.
That is cool🎉.....😊
man, he dropped to the floor faster than gravity should allow!
I can't believe this! My family has joked about "those old pharmacist skits from Friday's" for years. How about the one where the transvestite comes in for sapositories (sp!)?
See the film Jeckuyll and Hyde: Together Again " with Mark Blankenshp....pure hilarity!! This is the same character.
does anyone know if it is on dvd let me know
It's Blankfield, but yes, that was an incredibly funny movie. "No more wire hangars. Ever."
Agreed! He was very talented. I think I remember him doing a couple of bit parts after this show but that's about it....sad.
How does that guy stay in business?
any more from this special? Any way you could send it me? Thanks.
@Mickagume is that grapevine wikipedia?
Because Michael Richards had a clause in his contract that they can't do anything that's not a rebroadcast without his permission.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought. I must have seen a few of those appearances.

HOLY CRAP...THE RICE TWINS!!!
teacher?can anyone verify the Mark Blankfield imdb post?

How did this guy not become a huge star ?
I can. He used to have a Facebook account and I sent him a message on it and he replied he was a special education teacher now.
That's crazy. Some of the great entertainers died too young--John Belushi and Chris Farley. I worry about Pete Davidson.
@zbaby82 I miss this show so much
Yes! If I remember right, he thought it was a computer(Apple, Atari 400, Commodore 64 LOL).
I miss this sh!t....
It's like an old Vaudeville skit.
Mickey from Seinfeld!
I always thought Larry david did this character...hmmm..was a while ago...I CAN HANDLE IT!!!! LOL
Does anyone remember him in a Jeckel and Hyde movie? he was hilarious!

What ever happened to this guy? I used to like the "Golden Boys" skit too. Wrestlers. Funny as shit.
that sound like the little dude from seinfeld...who was heightening...
well, in a matter of speaking... I found it for sale in the UK, bootleg.
larry david
Actually, this is one of the less funny versions of this sketch, in my opinion. Don't judge it by this one. Watch some of the other ones.
no it is not
Aside from the fact that it really offended my stepmother at the time, there was really nothing about this character that appealed to me all that much. It was one of those ideas that was kind of funny the first time but not funny enough to keep bringing back over and over.
PCP
It wasn't considered good at the time. It was recognized as a lame Saturday Night Live ripoff.
Wtf?
Good at the time maybe, if you were there. But this has aged terribly. Over the top characterisations and weak script. And at six minutes plus, far too long for this one joke sketch to be stretched.
Terrible...the worst of the worst.
"pathetic"
Yes...your attempt at a 'comment' sure was.
