- This video tour in Mettmann City Germany offers a great way to enjoy a walk and Mettmann city's beautiful historical Old Town(Altstadt) ambience on a cloudy and part sunny summer day in July 2020 after the reopening of many businesses in the end of April. Mettmann lies about 15 km east of Düsseldorf.

From the 1960s onwards, the medieval city centre of Mettmann was extensively rebuilt. Especially in the areas around today's Jubiläumsplatz and the street Am Königshof, numerous residential buildings, factory buildings and historically significant structures were demolished. Among them were the "stone house" of the knight Ludewig of Medemen, built in 1284, and the "Königshof" from the 10th century. The old houses were replaced by larger new buildings. Nevertheless it was possible to preserve parts of the historic old town. The medieval ring of houses around the Catholic Church of St. Lambertus in the upper town has been preserved to this day, and other half-timbered and slate houses line the townscape.
I am starting this walk close to the Music school then taking a quick stroll through the historic Altstadt (Old town) closeby. Right afterwards I am walking along the evangelic church and head to the Königshof Gallery mall. I will take a quick stroll within the mall before finishing this walk. Ich komme aus Mettmann. Schoene Erinnerungen !
Ich bin auf das Berufskolleg in Mettmann gegangen. Ein Klassenkamerad hatte mich einmal zu seinem Geburtstag eingeladen und bot mir an, auch bei ihm zu übernachten, da er etwas außerhalb wohne. Ich war naiv und dachte mir, dass das nicht nötig wäre, denn Mettmann ist ja recht Klein, und wenn ich jeden Tag dort zu Schule und wieder nach Hause gehe, dann würde ich auch von ihm wieder gut heimfinden, denn selbst aus Metzkausen käme ich noch irgendwie zurück.... doch dann landete ich in Obschwarzbach

Thanks for this video. Mettmann is my birthplace and I have been living there until 2007, when I moved to Lower Saxony. For us teenagers in the 90s, Mettmann was really boring and we usually went shopping and partying in Düsseldorf or the nearby "Ruhrgebiet". I could not live in Mettmann any more, but I enjoy my stay every year when visiting my family.

Ingenieur: "Wir haben da dieses enge Nadelöhr in der Innenstadt, durch das sich der ganze Verkehr quetscht, wir müssen da irgendwie Abhilfe schaffen!"
Stadtrat: "Ein Ausbau ist zu teuer, aber wir können das Nadelöhr großzügig betiteln, dann fällt es nicht so auf. Wie währe es mit 'Breite Straße'?"
Ingenieur: "So machen wir's!"
...ungefähr so muss es passiert sein, anders kann ich mir das nicht erklären.

I grow up in Mettmann in the 70th and 80th. With „Pinte“, „Metzgerei Bergmann“, „Murjahn“; Overhoff, Brenger, Radio Ludwig, and so on..

Ich lebe seit 31 Jahren in dieser Stadt und muß mir erst ein UA-cam Video anschauen um mal zu sehen wie nett es hier eigentlich ist. Fällt einem sonst gar nicht auf.
Wow, das freut mich zu hören! Die Stadt ist wirklich schön. Nur leider war das Wetter nicht so toll an dem Tag. Werde noch eine Tour drehen wenn die Sonne mal scheint.
Mir is gar nicht bewusst gewesen wie niedlich es in ME aussieht . Ich war jetzt leider schon seit über 1 Jahr nicht mehr dort. Die Häuser gegenüber der Musikschule sind ja schon alle fertig gebaut .

They were hiding I guess 😂 no, really, it’s a super small village and it was 35 degrees, even in the church you can see a dead bird laying around on the floor somewhere. I was kind of shocked 😮

No problem, I meant 35 degrees Celsius temperature. Very hot in Germany because there is no air condition in homes. And I meant that probably I’m the first guy in a long time who visited the church, if nobody else noticed the dead bird on the floor.
