2:15 One way to prevent an opponent from getting a Destiny Dice-matching card is to deliberately give a lower-value card as a gift and use your matching card as the discard. This also has the benefit of giving yourself said card. Of course you are forfeiting an opportunity to use the card to take an action, but if you are low on workers, you might not have been able to take a meaningful action anyway.
So glad I kickstarted this. CANNOT WAIT. Thanks Richard. Is it me or is this a really good year for medium to heavy euros or at least euros that will survive the "cult of the new" and be around for a few years?
Awesome Rahdo. SU&SD said, not too good for a 2 player game. But i'm going with you. Oh and I looked up GuGong: For·bid·den City (fər-bĭd′n, fôr-) A walled enclosure of central Beijing, China, containing the palaces of 24 emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
In mine opinion, every game is made a 3 ,4 or more playergame (except games who are made as 2 playergames)The solo and duo version are usually included in de game with adjusted rules or a dummy player(not liking that). However in this game the only thing that changes is the side of the board. It play really oke with two players. however, I prefer to play this game as intended. with 3,4 or 5 players.
I like heavy worker placement games and was doubtful about this game. But the quality of the material and the stretch goals seemed so amazing that I couldn't resist and backed it. Glad that was the right decision. Thanks for the playthrough.
Hey Richard, Joel Eddy just did his thoughts on the game and he pointed out that the game lacked a little of the magic at the 2 player count. I know you are clear you liked it at 2 but just wanted to know if he adds something interesting for you on it.
yeah, i'm not sure where he's getting that. we thought it worked great as a 2p game. i'm sure it's better with more than 2, no doubt, but we still enjoyed it quite a bit (made my top10 of the year, as a 2p game) :)
i still think it's pretty great, but i'm not the best person to ask about long term play because after i've finished filming, i've always got to move on to the next games for covering.
Played it yesterday and as gorgeous as the deluxe edition is, the game fell flat for me. Surprised to find myself totally disagreeing with Rahdo this time :( Wanted to like the game, but didn't.
considering the fact that there are thousands of euros that have come out over the last decade or so, it's not surprising that there are dozens that would be better than this, but that still puts this in pretty high regard :)

I’m moving out and camping by my mailbox now until this arrives.
Got the deluxe version of this game, very much worth it. Looks amazing, can't wait to play it.

tbh i find myself disagreeing with SU&SD more than i agree with them. the wall building suffers a bit in 2, but not enough to be a problem :)
Oh man, this gets me so excited to play! We're not getting it in the states until November though. :,-(

great review as always. It seems there is a solo mode? Have you had a chance to look at that? Many thanks again.
i saw it in the rules, but it seemed pretty in depth so i didn't dig very deep

@@rahdo knew that. Will need to try it out than and find out, right? ;)
I’m still gaga for Gugong.
Hey Rahdo, just wondering how has this game held up for you?

Wanted to like the game, but didn't.
Now I just need to find that jade statue I stashed sometime ago... who was that official again who can speed up game delivery? Bribe coming...
Great Game? Absolutely and Wholeheartedly yes. $90 @ BGGCON? Most definitely not.
This is such a bland, generic euro... people's standards for great euro games are really low these days. There are dozens of better games than this.
