But he couldn't go to Japan because of Covid. So he had to sing it from the studio in China. There he took part in the show Shine! Super Brothers. I’m not sure but I think it was his studio in China. But I do know he got a studio as a gift for his birthday. If the Japanese reactors are to be believed, Dimash sang in perfect Japanese. Some also claimed that it was better Japanese than many Japanese themselves😅. He sang the same song but with different lyrics on the competition show "The Singer" in China in 2017 titled "Autumn Strong". And this song has a sad backstory. This was his first song in Mandarin. He was so young there. But I like Ikanaide more than Autumn Strong. The feelings he shows are sometimes difficult for me to bear. Please react to Olimpico from his Arnau concert in 2019 next. In this song he sings in Italian. You can find it on Igor Krutoy‘s Channel. Olimpico is another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for Dimash’s vocal skills. It was written for the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus 2019. And that’s why the lyrics are also very motivating. This song and this performance from this Arnau concert is my absolute favourite🥰 I think this version is the best, because his performance is so intense and breathtaking. The light show, the background dancers. Everything. With this song in this version I always get breathlessness. The way he represents himself on stage, the hand movements. I think he has incredibly beautiful hands🤭(and apparently many cameramen think so too, since many of the camera shots during his performances very often only show his hands. Sometimes it seems as if he is conducting himself. This is really fascinating). And the facial expression, the look. There he looks so commanding😱. In my opinion, this version of Olimpico is one of the most impressive performances ever. Love the reaction. You really connected with the emotions he makes you feel. And he conveys the emotion in the true story that it is. This song composed in Japan is about a well-loved singer in China during WWII whose hidden Japanese ancestry was exposed. People then shunned her, she was suspected of being a spy, and she was deported to Japan where she had never lived. In the song, a man, or some would say part of China, are lamenting the separation and telling her to please don't go. In the bridge of the song, Dimash's high arias are meant to emulate and honor the deported singer. Song is also well known in China where the lyrics were changed to Mandarin, written from a slightly different point of view, but the deep sadness of the situation and the forced departure is still there. Dimash also sings the version in Mandarin at his concerts. The first time he performed that version, called Autumn Strong, was on Hunan TV's show The Singer back in 2017, the show that set him on the path to international fame. His performance on The Singer had many in the audience in tears. Both are among my favorite Dimash performances.
This is the same melody as Autumn Strong which Dimash sings in mandarin with slightly different lyrics. At concerts, Dimash sometimes does a hybrid of both songs, Us dears each have a favourite version, so mixing the two, helps to satisfy us all. My favourite version of Autumn Strong is from the Kiev concert and he does something extra special at the end of that rendition too.
This version "Ikanaide" (行かないで) ) is the original, from 1989, composed by Koji Tamaki (famous Japanese singer, born in 1958) with lyrics by Goro Matsui. The version "Autumn Strong" (Late Autumn), sung in Chinese, uses the same song, but has another lyrics (Yaqui Cheung, from 1993) and another theme: It talks about the Japanese actress Yoshiko Yamagushi, very dear to the Chinese, who was deported when they discovered her Japanese origin (his real name was Li Xiang Lan and we're talking about World War II, where Japan was China's enemy) and never returned to China. In the original version, the lyrics are more intimate, sentimental and more recognized worldwide. It means: "Please don't go!". You would derive even more enjoyment if you read it was written about a famous beloved actress in China that was passing as Chinese but was from Japan. People loved her but when they found out she was Japanese whom China had fought the Japanese during WWII and was their enemy they accused her of being a spy and deported her to Japan. People said she never returned but she did return for a brief visit in the early sixties as a rep of something not related to acting and it was kept relatively quiet. The man that wrote the song but not the lyrics is a very famous singer in Japan. It was a very big song in Japan about 20 yrs ago but he still sings it well. He loves Dimash’s version. Dimash connected to the song particularly because of the back story but he always connects.The song was written as an ode to her even though the singer/songwriter would not have been the one to have dated her.

In my opinion, this version of Olimpico is one of the most impressive performances ever. Love the reaction. You really connected with the emotions he makes you feel. And he conveys the emotion in the true story that it is. This song composed in Japan is about a well-loved singer in China during WWII whose hidden Japanese ancestry was exposed. People then shunned her, she was suspected of being a spy, and she was deported to Japan where she had never lived. In the song, a man, or some would say part of China, are lamenting the separation and telling her to please don't go. In the bridge of the song, Dimash's high arias are meant to emulate and honor the deported singer. Song is also well known in China where the lyrics were changed to Mandarin, written from a slightly different point of view, but the deep sadness of the situation and the forced departure is still there. Dimash also sings the version in Mandarin at his concerts. The first time he performed that version, called Autumn Strong, was on Hunan TV's show The Singer back in 2017, the show that set him on the path to international fame. His performance on The Singer had many in the audience in tears. Both are among my favorite Dimash performances.

This is the same melody as Autumn Strong which Dimash sings in mandarin with slightly different lyrics. At concerts, Dimash sometimes does a hybrid of both songs, Us dears each have a favourite version, so mixing the two, helps to satisfy us all. My favourite version of Autumn Strong is from the Kiev concert and he does something extra special at the end of that rendition too.

This version "Ikanaide" (行かないで) ) is the original, from 1989, composed by Koji Tamaki (famous Japanese singer, born in 1958) with lyrics by Goro Matsui. The version "Autumn Strong" (Late Autumn), sung in Chinese, uses the same song, but has another lyrics (Yaqui Cheung, from 1993) and another theme: It talks about the Japanese actress Yoshiko Yamagushi, very dear to the Chinese, who was deported when they discovered her Japanese origin (his real name was Li Xiang Lan and we're talking about World War II, where Japan was China's enemy) and never returned to China. In the original version, the lyrics are more intimate, sentimental and more recognized worldwide. It means: "Please don't go!". You would derive even more enjoyment if you read it was written about a famous beloved actress in China that was passing as Chinese but was from Japan. People loved her but when they found out she was Japanese whom China had fought the Japanese during WWII and was their enemy they accused her of being a spy and deported her to Japan. People said she never returned but she did return for a brief visit in the early sixties as a rep of something not related to acting and it was kept relatively quiet. The man that wrote the song but not the lyrics is a very famous singer in Japan. It was a very big song in Japan about 20 yrs ago but he still sings it well. He loves Dimash’s version. Dimash connected to the song particularly because of the back story but he always connects.The song was written as an ode to her even though the singer/songwriter would not have been the one to have dated her.

👉 Dimash sang Ikanaide (live and for the first time in Japanese) on the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2021(in his studio). Because of the pandemic, the annual Tokyo Jazz Festival took place online again. Filmmakers verify that the videos have not been edited and manipulated, so the singer sings live.
In 2020 Dimash also participated in the famous annual Tokyo Online Festival with 2 songs:

The original song Ikanaide was composed in 1989 by Koji Tamaki (*1958) singer and songwriter, the lyrics come from one of his lyricists Goro Matsui.
In the same year, the song was used as the theme song for a Chinese-Japanese television series Farewell, Lixianglan, about the Japanese woman Yoshiko Yamaguchi (*1920 - † 2014) a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. She hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan and became famous in China. However, when the war was over and she revealed her identity, she was accused of being a spy. She was deported to Japan and longed for China. Ms. Yamaguchi did not return to China until many years as deputy environment minister in the Japanese parliament. The song is a metaphor as the lyrics speak of how a person should hide what they are feeling.
Koji Tamaki sent a wonderful message to Dimash, thanking him, and praising him for singing his song in Japanese.

Dimash's Japan Fan Club asked the famous Japanese author of lyrics of 'Ikanaide' Goro Matsui about his emotions at Dimash performance. It's one of his favorite songs:
"… I heard Dimash singing "Ikanaide" by accident. The first thing that impressed me was his crystal clear tone and expressive voice. I heard other Asian artists perform the song many times, but despite their magnificent vocal skills, none seemed to capture the true meaning of the original lyrics. In the chorus of the song, the line "Ah, Ikanaide" is repeated several times. And although these are the same words, each line has a different meaning. And it seems to me that Dimash felt it. "

The Chinese (Autuumn Strong) and Japanese (Ikanaide/ Please, Don’t Go) versions have completely different lyrics and meanings… and of course Dimash sings both very differently:
- The Chinese version shows the image of leaves dancing in the autumn wind as a metaphor for the passage of time, a farewell and change...sad but inevitable and irrevocable
- The Japanese version does not want to accept the loss of a loved one, is full of pain, begs, suffers... heartbreaking.
I'm totally mesmerized by how sensitively Dimash differentiates and conveys to the listener the feelings of sadness and loneliness in the Chinese version and loss and pain in the Japanese version. Even his whispers and his breath are music... it breaks my heart and the tears flow... and at the end everyone suddenly holds their breath, we hear Dimash breathing, then a deep and comforting hum.
I've never heard anything like that from other singers in my entire life. Only Dimash can do that. This is true mastery.
