Never did beverage, but when i was in Food Service they ALWAYS looked extremely miserable. Coke, Pepsi, and beer. I’m sure that isn’t the case for everyone though. I highly suggest every new cdl driver to start off with food service simply for the great pay, day one benefits, and for the HUMBLENESS! Man will food service humble you.. lol.
Lol definitely
I hated working at Pepsi I always wanted to quit
Damn is food service really that physically taxing on you?
@@fatdarrentill487 yeah bro work at mclane I only do it cause of the money once I get some good years I might be out don’t know yet
How much experience you need to get in at GFS?
Food service will definitely humble u and make you appreciate your back.

Currently 2 years in food service but I still find these vids extremely helpful. Thank you for taking the time to show us what’s out there. Keep it up!

Backing up on a 20 degree inclined tipper in a landfill in pouring rain was a great learning experience. I currently pull mail from Richmond, VA to Dulles distribution center-Capital Heights,MD distribution center, back to Richmond, VA. Plus, my route involves NO TOUCH FREIGHT! New drivers should look into polling mail for a private contractor.
What’s up man! Glad to see your is Channel growing! I worked for mclane for two years and I switched to waste management almost 9 months ago and I’m really enjoying it! I actually became a driver trainer recently. This job isn’t as hard as foodservice I’m 23 and I felt like I was 50 working at mclane. The money is also really good here. Anyhow hope you’re doing great man, happy holidays to you and you’re family :)
Thanks man! Happy holidays to you as well.
I’ve never worked the food service side but I see those guys trucks and the way it’s loaded and say F that lol. Here in Detroit MI the beer business we work 4 10s, every Monday off. And we’re mostly commission based so the faster you deliver your beer the more money an hour you make yourself. We also don’t merchandise anything at my company as drivers. What you mentioned your check for two weeks can be made in one week here in 4 days. Lots of different opportunities out there best of luck to everyone, stay safe and healthy!
What’s some beer business here in Detroit?
What company is that?
Just now watching this .literally speaking my life right now man
I work for Coke I came in for the driver trainer which is basically cdl training that they pay for and I understand completely where your coming from. Beverage is no joke especially summer season. 12 to 14 hr days easy and I'm with you on the merchandising thing to bring in 120 cases and have to work it spending a couple hours in each store is insane. Getting that experience and grinding is key but don't lose focus. Great content bro I wish you well and keep on trucking 🚚
Same to you. I appreciate the support bro. Stay safe out there.

@Harold Keenan work the 2 years then go to food service. Try to work any extra days to make more $$. Food service is not hard once you learn how to navigate parking lots, and allow your body to adapt to the work. I have been at coke 6 years last year I made 90k worked every Saturday. You can make 90k in food service without working every Saturday
I went on a run with a Coke driver before i accepted the job offer in Roanoke. After I saw the stuff he had to put up with, especially at gas stations, I said never mind

Amen on the plans stuff brother!
I do OTR flatbed, and it’s a good balance of labor, pay, driving. I worked as a mover for awhile before I got a Cdl and I’d imagine food service feels like the same type of work with how much energy your putting in.
I got my CDL back in 2002. Started with Matagrano Inc. (Budweiser Dist) in 2002 starting at $15.00 an hour. Did 10 years and made it to $22.60. I then moved on to 7up in the East Bay and worked there for 8 years taking a pay cut starting at $18.00 an hour. After 8 years I made it up to $23.80. I’m now with the garbage company (Recology South Bay) and I am very happy👍🏽 Great pay, great health benefits with an awesome pension plan and it’s TEAMSTERS Local 350. Stay blessed to all the truckers out there 🙏🏽🤙🏽

This is wild got damn, I see us new guys got in at the right time

Man I love your channel so much. I live in North Carolina and am going to take the permit test for the CDL Wednesday. I don't know who specifically I'll end up going with but all I can think about is going to Food Service. I don't know how it's going to realistically go but that is my ultimate goal. Especially now that you mentioned something about the hour's. I know you'll work long hours sometimes but sometimes is better than everyday.
I appreciate the support bro. Yep, you might experience some long days from time to time but hopefully not everyday. Not all food service drivers work a bunch of long crazy hours. If you get with a company and you’re having very long day’s consistently, I personally would probably start looking elsewhere. Unless you just don’t mind the long hours. Good luck man.

The beverage side of it is good if your trying to get experience. From what I have heard, the food service is the way to go. Been with Coke for 6 years but the money just ain’t there. Just waiting for something to come open near me and I’m out!

I work in the Beer industry: Cleaning, Filling and delivering kegs for $15 an hour and HATE the smell of beer.
I’m in with Reyes Beer Division out here in LA. Came in as Entry Level. It’s labor work aside from driving. I drive about 75 miles daily and the pay is good out here. Home daily plus good benefits. It’s not for all but it’s a good start. Until I get burnt out I’m staying here. You can’t find a lot of jobs that’ll help you come in without experience and they pay you well. It’s definitely not for everyone. Later on I do want to drop and hook hazmat.
Plus you can put experience on your resume for driving and then jump into tanker or something else local that’s less taxing on your body
My goal is to get in Reyes Beer Division in Gardena as soon as I get my CDL, I already have my permit . I have merchandising experience with Beauchamp , so I have an idea of what you guys do. Im based out of South Central LA .
I'm in the Palmdale area and I just got my CDL a week ago . You're saying that Reyes will hire you without experience? I'm asking because online it says 1 year experience

Just got hired at PFG looking forward to the experience, gotta get some drive time , because I am a newer driver . Anyone up here from Connecticut with experience with PFG ? P.S: leaving the garbage industry , was driving a rear loader for a company out here . Not a horrible experience just needed to get more money and experience driving a tractor trailer , also I drove with swift for three weeks right after driving school that didn’t work out being that I needed to be home and they didn’t keep it all the way 💯 about that but none the less appreciate the experience…..

I’m currently doing line haul for CT in California. Line haul is easier money and pays 80k- 100k depending if you get a good route/dock work but I hate being immobile. I’ve been looking at US foods and Sysco. Still on the fence about it
There are line haul positions with certain LTL companies where you don't work the dock, just drive.
R+L carriers has a combo position which is working the dock and line haul driving and they a line haul only position where you don't work the dock at all. Some other companies have the same.

Been doing beer delivery since may fresh out of cdl school. Beer delivery Sucks! Imagine delivering beer working the store rotating the beer each time taking kegs down narrow steps! Btw I work at a distributor that charges the driver for old beer! YES IF THE BEER GOES BAD YOU PAY FOR IT!
That’s crazy bro. How long do you plan on staying there?
What do you for recovery? Ice baths. Im a bigger guy. Dont get twisted, i got a good work ethic. And i go to gym. And tips on hydration
Beer isn’t bad job. I think it’s good place to get a cdl and training. A lot of work though. I run a keg route where we double stack half barrels. They weigh about 165 lbs and they will make or break you. Beverage does has a high turn over rate.
The money that foodservice pays should be much more
I worked for McLane for 3 weeks. I didn't like all that case count so I decided to quit.
Good for you bro🎉
I have a minimum 11 months before I decide if I’m going to quit or not. My job is more labor intensive than this one was, with absolute certainty, but it pays just barely enough to stay for a reasonable resume display.
I use to haul at poppa John in Phoenix good lord that was pretty hard especially the damn racks of the balled pizza crusts! I always spilled 1 per truckload
Man the store that was shorted would always get mad!
Only lasted 4 years blah never again!

Thank you bro for the advice and being honest.
I got into beer back in April because they had a “driver in training” position available. Worked for 5 months and got my CDL! After that, shit changed…. Supervisor was constantly on my ass over the pettiest of shit. Company had the worst routing system I’ve ever seen. Drivers would literally HAVE TO route themselves and would essentially document how they did the route and would report back to the router to adjust…. Yes, I’m serious lol….
Besides that… rotating product AND merching accounts PLUS dealing with barrels… yeah, I did ONE month after I got my CDL and said FUCK THIS!
I quit a couple weeks ago. Going back to food and joining US Foods in a week. Can’t wait to NOT merch accounts or rotate product! Or fuck with barrels and trap doors! FUCK beer!!
I worked for a Budweiser distributor fyi…
Lol man I left out so much stuff that I didn’t like.. I didn’t mention those heavy beer Kegs smh. One of my liquor store accounts would order 30 keg’s like once a month along with the 7-10 pallets of beer. We also had to pick up all the empty keg’s and take back to the DC😂 It was brutal man. Rotating product, merchandising, sometimes waiting long periods of time to be checked in..4 month’s was long enough for me bro..Now I just drop & GO! ✌🏾
@@imanthonytv that was another thing… picking up empties! Problem was almost none of the drivers actually did their fucking jobs regarding empties. So if someone took a day or had vaca time, they’d just throw someone on that route, with the TERRIBLE routing system, and you’d have to basically do THEIR work too because there were always empties to pickup….
Yeah, we did Sprecher and New Glarus. Barrels were 180lbs each! Up and down stairs… the fucking hand truck would barely move with 2 barrels on it(close to 400lbs) but we were expected to do it if we were gonna get done at a decent time…
One of the routes I got assigned to after a guy quit was a rural area driving ALL OVER the place and that route generally had 350-400 cases all put away plus 40-60+ barrels. Smh fucking terrible!
I’ll always be grateful I got my CDL there(although it was mostly self-training) but I wasn’t going to put up with that shit for the pay. My checks had to have 100+ hours to clear $2,000 every two weeks…
Doing Beverage delivery is great training for food service. Makes the transition easier. But I agree Beverage delivery is horrible.
Big dog I feel you did bev for 3 years 1 year coke 2 years beer and hands down food service is a cake walk . Been with pfg for month I love it a lot of cs but only 4-7 stop and we run teams
💯💪🏾
I went OTR for a month and wanted my life back. Now I'm being trained to be a relief driver (eventually get my own route if I stick around) with a beer delivery company. Yeah, this is probably the hardest work I've ever done. But my experience is different than yours 2 months in.
Firstly we don't price.
Secondly the drivers get paid a flat daily rate + x cents per case/keg. So they wanna be flying thru the day. And the dudes that are really good typically end up working 7-12 hour days. I'm sure them hours can increase in the summer depending on case counts.
Lastly, idk if you had this, but 3 day weekends are so fucking nice. Can't stress that enough.
I honestly love this job I just wish it paid more. I'm only making $19/hr rn but even as a driver I'm sure I'd only pull 3400-4k a month depending on the route I get. But the exercise is so good for me and I'm markedly stronger probably than I've ever been after just 2 months of throwing these cases, downstacking pallets, scooping and dropping stacks, and lifting them kegs. Fuckers weigh as much as I do lol.
That being said I'm still only staying till I can get a regional trucking job that'll pay more. I miss being on the road I just don't miss counting the days till I'm home.
I just started at Sysco. I have been a mover for 16 years...cake money for me....that dolly doesn't scare me!
Yeah, moving is no joke! You should be fine.
Are you still enjoying working for sysco
Oh man you going from bad to worse delivering beer most of the times get ridiculous specially the kegs your paychecks are not always stable it’s easy to get in when you don’t have any trucking experience
I just got my CDL Tuesday and got hired that same day at my local beer delivery spot
Congrats 💪🏾
I delivered beer for a long time my opion food service is where the money is locally your going to work your ass off but the money is there
When I left law enforcement (corrections) for trucking I went into LTL at FedEx ground. Like you I was pulling in $1500 every two weeks, TERRIBLE. But I understood that at this point of my career the experience was worth more. Making more than that now (1 yr later) but ima def pivot and relocate to FL to haul gas

Is it less volume as far as driver merchandising on beer compared to soda
It’s about the same but beer is much harder than soda because you’re dealing with primarily bottles & can. Soda has more plastic bottles which is another reason beer is more physically demanding. Soda has bottles but not as many as beer.
@@imanthonytv oh okay was just always curious about that. Usually when I go into gas stations I see more sodas than beer

I've been with McLane Foodservice out of the Milwaukee distribution center for a little over a year now. The physical activity is a nice challenge doing 12 to 13 stops delivering up to 1400 cases in a 14 hour window. The 4 day (non consecutive) work week and the opportunity to gross $70-100k was a deciding factor to come here.
