WOW! All I can say is you were a lot nicer to that guy than I would have been. Great solution to a potential problem that anyone that operates a boat knows can potentially be a problem in the future. You would think they would have some folks that could see this potential issue.
Can you imagine, after you've had this installed for some time, a storm or rough water comes up unexpectedly and the boat is pounding waves. All of the sudden the pump breaks free because the threads of the mounting screws cut through the mount, stresses the hoses enough and one breaks, and now you've got hydraulic fluid all over the place and lost stearing in bad weather conditions! Great job in doing their job and solving a potentially very bad situation that could have been avoided. Hopefully they see this video and read the comments and re-think their solution and design.

Very true common sense if this happens in a storm at sea everything would be lost, life and vessel, and all it took was just a small inserts.
Thanks for painting that picture cap. I was leaving the moment as i was reading your comment, and i hope they think about this small problems that could be a tragedy.
      Thanks for your comment cap.⚓️👍

I am learning many things from your inspiring channel! FYI, I have a sailboat and am looking for a used autopilot. I don't need the hydraulic pump as my sailboat is tiller steered, But, if you will sell me your unneeded Raymarine EV100 parts, they sell a tiller device that works with your parts. Again, thanks a million for your resourcefulness and the sharing of your incredible adventure, Bill

Garmin should pay you for your creative fix to their obvious engineering flaw. Their explanation that the fittings are no longer needed is a cop out. You made their product better with the fittings and washer you adapted. It will give you a much stronger installation. Eres un bárbaro!

Good video and result from re-engineering. Always have to re-engineer as he mentioned no boat/install is the same, but feet holding a product should have good feet.
I suppose to be simple here, you could just use the larger fender washer and forego the insert and it would be fine as once mounted on the rubber snugged down, it should not move around. I would also consider using a rubber pad under the feet like maybe an EPDM floor exercise mat rubber with some longer screws to really give it a cushion to mount and keep vibration down as well .I use that same rubber for my batteries and it holds them great and reduces the vibration and impacts.
    Good work!

@@tombiondi9969 The parts that I have used came from an existing stock. But after viewing the install here I like the large washer on top of the spacer. So I think I have a better way, that I used on my last install and it cost less as well. Look up Binding barrels in MMC. The one I bought was 93122a164. You can install this with the threaded end up and use any length screw to match the thickness of you mounting surface if you can get to the back side. If you are going into a blind area then I would use a spacer such as 92320a361.
Personally I do not like going into a blind area with self threading screws on marine applications due the vibration and shear pounding they receive. I tried to make a video showing the install on my boat but after watching it, I just could not post it, bad is not even close, it was painful to watch.

As a Garmin consumer I must say I'm disappointed with the customer service as well as the fact there doesn't seem to be any pride in workmanship by sending out a product that is soaked in fluid and very different from what is shown.

Captain I would like you to visit another You Tube channel I enjoy, Life by the Bow. Clay and Stephanie live in a beautiful house in Key Largo. Their most recent video is an overnight trip to Dry Tortugas. You will enjoy this video and tempt you to go.

Good job. Too bad you had to do a bush fix. Their explanation on your last call is hideous.

Yes I understand they should have some top don't talk of connector that will not damage the rubber for some consumers that they do not know how to do this

You would think the company charging that much for their product you would get better results. Pretty shitty to me.

The problem is that nobody ever complained for this problem So that's why they never fixed it

I’ve never liked garmin for just this reason. Their connection points are small and weak for everything, power cords, transducer cables, radar… check out Furuno and you’ll see how it’s done.
