stellar blade will never be a game of the year because it was deleted from the game of the year list. But for me personally stellar blade is a game of the year. The music of the game stellar blade is beautiful
Shift Up has so much potential to be the next big studio. From having a strong mobile game with Nikke, to this amazing console/upcoming PC game, they've done great. Beautiful music, visuals, and character design being their strong suit makes their products stand out.
I kinda dislike Nikke for the pretentious cheap fanservice but if Stellar Blade is their quality for single player games i definitely want to support them
@@Kumire_921 The Nikke fanservice is pretty weak actually. It’s very surface level compared to something like Brown Dust 2 or Snowbreak. But they make up for it by having deep lore and meaningful stories that are guaranteed to make you cry. With what little they’re working with they put together an amazing experience through sheer narrative and music. People judge Nikke by its cover without knowing a single thing about it. I would say give it a chance at least finish chapter 0. But if you’re anti gacha in general I understand.
It’s been so long since I could say I beat a game multiple times and with stellar blade I played through it 4 times and I plan on playing it again once we get the update and DLC. The most fun I had this year was Stellar Blade and Metaphor refantazio. Soon black myth wukong will be added to that list when I get my physical copy in a few weeks. Also I bought a Japanese disc of stellar blade and played through it in Korean twice, Japanese and English. Thank you shift up for making such a great escape for me.
Awesome review Noony, I agree with everything you mention, both the high praise and the criticisms. It’s why Black Myth Wukong is still my game of the year but Stellar Blade is still top five for me this year.
I've completed this game 2x and the game just hits diff. I was expecting it to feel like Nier:Automata but I was surprised that it had it's own feels. Also, I love the combat so much and my favorite boss was of course Raven that I spent hours trying to no hit her in hard mode which felt truly awesome.
Nice review and I fully agree with everything here! Personally my GOTY. The combat is so dynamic with so many ways to avoid damage and punish the enemy. I appreciate the different combo strings you can do, something Wukong was lacking. The OST is phenomenal. Eve and her 80+ outfits make the game feel fresh and new every time you change into a different one. I also disliked sand, minigames, and platforming. Story was ok; I had extremely high expectations considering their other game Nikke has literally the best story I’ve ever seen in a game. I haven’t teared up to a game story so much, maybe the only one that comes close is TLOU1 back in the day. Nikke also has a very similar if not better OST if you want more music like Stellar Blade.
500 hours ?! That's insane. But I understand it, I was on my 5th playthrough myself before the Nier announcement dropped. Will be waiting for that before continuing.
Appreciate all the comments whether you agree with me or not on it being a contender or because you think it is/not GOTY. These will be subjective at the end of the day. I look forward to the dlc and future of Stellar Blade.
I like Stellar Blade, and I think it has set up a good framework for Stellar Blade 2, but I hope they learn from other games like Final Fantasy 7 remake and Rebirth and games like Darksiders and work on the character building. I also would not mind a harder difficulty, something like give me god of War from god of War 4. They could also have more developed maps like Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West to give variety, like Final Fantasy remake and Rebirth. Overall i like Stellar Blade and would highly recommend it, seeing all the potential it has
Stellar blade is definitely my game of the year. Anybody avoiding this game because they don't play "gooner bait" are kinda just doin themselves a huge disservice.
Oh, but the full Ost is out for purchase. I've bought the Ost in FLAC format last month. It has 189 soundtracks in total. Was very much worth it for me. I've bought it in Qobuz, in case you wanna know. Good video and review btw.
@@HomelessGurl Yep, some favorites are: Escape! Everglow Maelstrom, Eidos IX, Raphael Space Center (all of it), Hypertube, and some end credit songs. Heck, 99% of the soundtracks are all good.
SB and BMW for me. I liked SB a little bit more because of the gameplay variety and I ended up caring about the characters more, but wow, what a great year for me as a lover of single-player, action/adventure RPGs the most and these two more than deliver.
Great Desert Reboot Type A is the only reason why I tolerate playing in the Great Desert to the point I almost never want to fast travel. Other than that, the Great Desert and Wasteland are not all that fun to play in, especially after the brilliance that was Eidos 7. Also agree, the platforming is frustrating. Sure, you can play the game enough to figure out how to get around the touchiness, but it was still annoying. As for the game itself, however, beautiful game, far better than supposed seasoned AAA companies have given us. Combat definitely feels fluid, especially once you open more of your skills. I appreciate how the game incentivizes you to get good at perfect dodges and parries through beta and burst moves, and as such, I did end up improving enough to complete the three times and beat Raven on hard mode. I feel you on those puzzle minigames to open the chests, especially when out of order, but I was still able to open them pre-patch simply by being steady as opposed to rushing them. At that point, once I saw how much slower the timer was after the patch, I now completely quit out the puzzle and start over. Anyways, I like how those minigames in general break the monotony the way old school games used to do. Music is absolutely amazing. The OST finally being released was also worth the wait, allowing me to listen to tracks without the noticeable edits other channels tried to do. Like I said, Great Desert Reboot Type A was the reason why I tolerate the Great Desert itself, because it was THAT good. Hypertube and Belial still remain my most obessessed themes. Thank you for your review. I can't say it deserves being GOTY, but I think it deserves gamers' attention at the very least.

Also random tidbit: Anyone who wasn’t in love with the English dub but doesn’t necessarily speak Korean might want to give the French dub a shot. It was actually quite enjoyable, and the upcoming update will actually be introducing a ton of new dubs as well to choose from.
I feel like the combat is much closer to what I wanted more out of Nier Automata (although I’m not happy about the lack of weapon variety and I wish hack and slash games stopped lazily skipping out on that). The over reliance on the desert is also a problem I had in Nier funny enough, I was so tired of constantly going back through there.

Don’t counter then, but you’ll have to rely on perfect dodges. If you have enough energy you can even follow up with dodge counters that can cut the enemy’s combo short. You can do it to the point where you won’t even see a big chunk of the boss moveset.
