I'm also 6'4" and seeing your ability to fit into cars and how it affects the rear seat passengers is very helpful. Love the car, won't work for my family of 4
How does keyless entry work with those new old door handles? Previously there was a button on the handle to lock the door but now how do you lock it? The entire handle flips up, and cars back in 2001 didn't have keyless entey
That sitting behind yourself is not how it actually is in real life. Usually if someone is sitting in front or behind you they are not the same height (knees are usually not the same length) as you. So. The front driver is at liberty to adjust their seat to accommodate tall second row passengers. Believe me. We done our homework on that one. Other than that, this is an excellent new BMW X1 review mate! 😉
I’m also 6’4” with a 36” trouser leg. If I sit behind myself with my knees touching the dash in front, in back my knees are pressing into the back of the front seat. So yes, front accommodation is good, but 4 people inside requires those in front be five footers.
Thank you KBB and Mike Danger! Really enjoy the humor and b-roll, also feel there's room to improve the commentary a bit. Manually adjustable steering wheel position is a "good thing" by itself, but probably not worth calling out on a BMW review.
Cute baby photo bomb! (when phone goes onto the charger....) dad appreciating other dads. ;). My girls change my Home Screen to their pics if I have something else on there.
Could all Car content providers spend a few seconds on the gear selector instead of the infortainment? Since so many manufacturers seem to be reinventing the basic funtion of getting the car to move, I'd like to know more if you have time. Lynn from KBB is the only person I remember touching on that subject.
@mike danger. needs to happen! 360+ hp with this bodystyle! Btw Mike love your content on KBB!! Please let the BMW reps know we need that higher power BMW X1 M40i-- will be ideal setup for LA streets + occasional roadtrips!
@@R56Cooper The host from “Redline Reviews” commented that he heard thru the grapevine an x1 35i was a possibility. Maybe just naturally aspirated or single turbo as to not cut into their x3 M40 sales. The x3 m40 already has 380hp, I think the x1 would be great with 300hp. My wife’s Subaru Forester XT stock has more power than this x1, so the x1 definitely need a bump for its weight.
Your review of the new BMW X1 is awesome. You do know that at 6'4" you're 6" taller than the average male. So for average height guys like myself or for most women this vehicle is perfect, even in the back with the reclining rear seats. I'm currently driving a 2019 X1 executive package which I believe was only available in the UK and Canada which includes thicker glass for a quiter ride. I added a lot of personal touches to mine like a box under the empty space under the arm rest which looks OEM. I added 19" wheels with larger tires for summer makes for a nice and precise ride. I have the sports options and self parking. I also hired tuner who added hidden options in the software and for a bit more, a software tune for the motor that added HP and TQ. I love the styling of the X1 and especially that new curved and cantilevered screen. Too bad they removed the buttons and the idrive controller. BMW tech and especially their infotainment systems are among the very best. The HUD display is perfect too.
@Bbnnisy when did that happen? BMW didn't say anything about it being discontinued in the U.S. what the heck now we are back to counting like this X1 X3 X4 X5 X6 X7 bruh we need the X2 to come back like now some people thought the BMW X2 was kinda pointless but I don't think it was pointless.
Car is roomy, nimble, and quick. Good mpg. To nitpick; 1) bumpy; really bad on washboard 2) crawling through screens for car adjustments is a nightmare; a partial save is ability to shortcut a few choices to make them more accessible 3) AWD in snow is poor 4) wheel “spokes” are not integrated into wheels- just plastic disks that pop off on a pothole 5) driver door hinges need repeated tightening with a wrench.
Want to do a poll, whats a better choice brand new X1 or 3 yr old Audi Q8? Lease is ending and they will be the same price if we buyout the lease - thanks!
I think safety falls to the occupants. If it’s not safe to operate, don’t operate it. I would agree that it makes it more frustrating and confusing to use when you are safe to use it though.
I don’t see how it’s safer to use the previous control button. The main thing that’s distraction is to look at the screen which you still have to do with the other controller. When looking at the screen anyways I feel like a touch screen will enable me to select my option faster than a spinny wheel. The safest would just be old school buttons for each Funktion but they look less nice ofc
I’ve watched several reviews about this car and yours is the only one that made me realize that this car may not actually be for me. The start/stop button for one is gonna annoy me and that integrated screen is a little too techie to handle and would definitely distract me. And heaven forbid, if something wrong happens to it, everything goes down the drain with it 😢.
Hey that’s what the reviews are for, Ning. Glad I could give some insight on the things that may be a dealbreaker for some people. Thanks for watching!
I know what you mean about he start/stop. What NONE of the reviewers I’ve seen have mentioned is that you can easily add that to your favorites on the screen. With that set up, you can disable the start stop function just as easily as with a button without having to toggle through multiple menus.
Rear looks like the first generation X1. Front looks good but the grilles are getting ridiculous. Also ridiculous are this guys reviews. Hard watch getting through this one. On for a target audience though.
I get where you’re coming from. On paper a fully loaded “regular” car matches up really well. Drive those two cars side by side and I have a feeling you’ll be able to tell a vast difference in the quality of those two vehicles.
Sensatec seats are awesome. Cool in summer warm in winter. You won't sweat as much either because of material is not perfectly flat. Plus you don't kill animals.
How in the world someone would compare an x1 with Subaru. Doesn’t make sense. It’s like buying a rolls Royce and getting jealous about Nissan leafs fuel economy.
Wow! When this car depreciate in value after a year, it will be sold quicker than any subaru on used car lot. Also nice style. It's cool in its own way
If only ventilated seats were an option (and the iDrive controller)...but I get it, let's push customers into the old gen X3 if they want those things, cha-ching.
Nope. BMWs are long-term crap enough as it is. Take away that legendary smooth, even torque band of the straight 6, and there's nothing there for me. If I want a 2.0L turbo in a small SUV, I'll go buy a Cherokee or an Escape. I'm not even a big BMW fan, but like other specialty brands, if BMW would just go back to it's roots, and serve the people that love them, introducing trends instead of following them, it would be doing a lot better. And... $40,000 for "synthetic leather" seating? To paraphrase Jennifer Aniston in Office Space, "I'm sorry, but... how's that different from vinyl again?"
