The workers are right: Everybody could see all the debris in all those videos which have been shown since the dam broke! Seems to be a major problem for a county to keep a dam clear!
One excavator in the entire county? No log trucks with grapples on them? When I was watching the initial new pieces before it all blew out, I was asking my wife where all of the equipment to remove the blockages were.

I’ve done some sketchy things at work but I’m not doing that

Two of the gates were closed semi-permanently, so that wasn’t helping either. The road on the dam was fine, I’d track out there in a minute and just keep tossing logs to the low side. No one did a thing to prevent this.

Typical government employee nobody’s held accountable for nothing even though it cost millions every one of them should lose their jobs and their pensions. Why should they get their retirement when they cause millions of dollars worth of damage to public property? Should they be charged with mischief vandalism?
Heavy rains were forecast week in advance. Debris build up was a constant issue for decades. So what do these County lifers do to prepare? Nothing. Should have had a long reach grapple excavator on site clearing debris nonstop. Maybe cost $50-$100K. Instead, taxpayers looking at closer to $100M...and life goes on as normal for the County 'workers'. Smdh.
Great video and 100% agree letting debris build up reduces the flow and damages the dam , bridge and homes down stream. Saves money not clearing it in time but now the new figure is going to be massive and the poor people that lost homes and jobs downstream ?? Will they get looked after or the middle finger?

Other big question is who/why/when was it deemed okay to PERMANENTLY seal up 2 of the 7 gates? But I guess the whole thing is a BIG WIN for the county, because now the state and federal taxpayers will be picking up the tab for them!

We all have to realize that it costs money to prevent this type of thing from happening. Counties are struggling with finances and only through taxation will they have the resources to make sure that the citizens receive the necessary services. Nobody wants taxes until they need the services they provide. Also former employees that haven’t been there for years is unfair to the people who are working there now .
Well let’s talk about that, we spent $10 TRILLION on a war that lasted 20 years. There are a number of people that don’t like the idea of taking care of America First. The workers who actually pay the taxes are paying about half of what they earn in taxes. How much more should they pay?

If they were not going to staff continuous log removal during high flow conditions, the old roadway and its supports on the dam should have been removed to allow log overflow. It was sheer incompetence to let the overflow spillway be blocked or lousy design to even allow that possibility.

This damn I camp in front of has an extra spillway in case the usual paths are clogged and blocked. All the spillways feed into the same river so the extra path dumps where it normally goes. They could've dug one very easily for this.

I live 200 feet from the Blue Earth River. I've witnessed numerous floods. With the amount of rain we received the debris flow was predictable.
BS It was Standard Operating Procedure to simply drive debris moving machinery onto the dam, pick it up, and throw it over!
