yah , sure . what I really think of , so it seems - the first 3 or 4 secs of this song BLUR !!! Love this band ( greetz from cologne , and .... yeah !! )
Although I don't think this song would be a popular single, it's a great song and a stand-out for the album (although a lot of the songs are stand-outs in my opinion). It's very memorable due to it's stark tone.
There's a darkness and intensity in the performance of this that you just don't hear in music anymore. You don't even really hear it in most of Blur's music
Band members are on record that _On Your Own_ from 1997 was what inspired Gorillaz but I hear more Gorillaz in this 1995 track than that 1997 track. Alex James KILLING it on the bass here! One of my top Blur songs for sure!!
Did Oasis have anything remotely as creative as this? The bass alone is fucking ridiculous…I wish they played this live…Graham could go fucking nuts at the end of this….Damn.
I kinda feel like it’s a screw you to all the people that complain about their music changing or whatever. All of them screaming “Entertain me! Entertain me! Do what I want!” But Blur has to do what THEY want, not what fans think would be good or would prefer. So it’s like the stupid expectations that people got whenever blur released new music.
@@mychemicalromancewillpierc5241 Hmm. Without really paying attention to the verses, I naively thought the chorus was about being numb to external stimuli, due to partying too hard, taking too drugs, or whatever, and the person is asking for someone or something to finally "entertain them" after so long of feeling nothing or living a boring life or something like that...
It goes along with most of the other songs on the album, about a marriage between two boring people who don't really care for each other or themselves and go through life wasting things (and life itself), not appreciating anything, and working so much to where they can't enjoy life or each other. This song in particular, to me, is about how the husband ruins the wife's fun (due to his drinking and demanding behavior), they can't please each other anymore, and how they're becoming bored with their lives and the possessions they own. They want to be entertained, and think by just demanding it they will be. Plus I'd also say a neighbor who's the opposite is watching this unravel and can hear everything, like some of the other songs again. With that meaning too, the chorus could also be in their point of view, like "come on, fight some more, entertain me." Very interesting and real imo. Hope that all made sense lol.
It's like Girls and Boys dark side. While in Girls and Boys, young people are "taking their chances" on "sunny beaches", in Entertain Me "bored minds agree" and are matched up with computer algorithms. But despite the algorithms trying to match two people who will have a loving relationship the man can't help but "guesstimate" if she'll "want it really badly". Instant whip = instant gratification = Entertain me. Its crazy to think that this tune was released in 1996, well before tinder, pof etc credit to Damon Albarn for such an accurate prediction of the future!
Woah that bassline is crazy
I’m being dead serious, this is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life.
Oath
same this bassline is everything
The Great Escape is criminally underrated. Fantastic album.
Yeah sadly
almost all of blur's works are underrated and overshadowed with oasis. most of people know blur just listening to their 'woohoo' song

I love this song but the album is all a bit too cold and sneering. Even the band didn't like it. Parklife and Modern Life is Rubbish are much better.
The bass is pure gold
The most underrated Blur song ever. It lifts you up and puts you somewhere else. Majestic.
Blur the best band in the UK
Agreed, I may not have been alive when blur was around but I sure do appreciate them.
@@iamcyber Don't worry, #1 rule of being a Blur fan is: get ready for a lots and lots of breaking ups and reunions.
They were in 1995-1997. A musical desert island refuge for me in the mid 90s. From the likes of Alanis Morrisette.
as blur fan idk about best, but blur pretty much the most UK band
In the world
