Not so fast with the water advice. I've heard some experts say that over-hydrating can flush valuable salts and nutrients out of the system. So don't over do it. "You can't drink enough... water all the time" Might be wrong, or imprecise, advice.
What about when you race in the evening? Got a race in a week at 6pm. What should you do the day leading up to and what to avoid? And... I got to drive for a couple of hours the morning of the race :)
Great question! I'd eat how you would normally eat if you were going to do a long run in the evening (last meal should probably happen around 2:30-3 pm). And make sure you're drinking lots of water all day leading up. As for the drive - give yourself some stretches and a little half mile shake out run after you get out of the car. As long as you've given yourself a lot of time, you should be great.
Thanks for the helpful perspective. Does the length of taper change for different lengths of races? A week seems a little short for a marathon, but I'm curious to hear your perspective.
Great question. Everyone's a little different. For a marathon you could view the last 2 weeks as a taper, taking it very gradually down a notch each day. A week will be plenty for a half marathon or less though :)
I run 1 short wind sprints the day before and a slow 1/2 mile or less. Super light and easy. Stretch, rest and eat and drink a low of water. It's just to check for injuries.
I have a race on Sunday...good confirmation with my current plan.
Thanks Holly!
Thanks for the information preparing for San Francisco Race I'm driving there, so I will have 4 days before race day!

Joe Moe ik I’m a year late but a trick our coaches showed us is to put salt in our water
I love eating pizza as part of my tapering :-)
Thank you 🙏🏻

Well i have marathon on 22.11.2020 but till this date its has been only 5 days to practice so how could i complet my 21.1k thankyou
Wao. V. Nyc method
so should i take a run before my race
A short one the day before as a shakeout might be good!
I didn't think running a few miles the day before a marathon was a good idea? Thank you for this video.
A shakeout run makes sure those muscles are firing correctly before the day. Nothing strenuous, more like a wake up call.
