I dived into kpop since 2008, but stayed an avid listener without really 'stanning' any groups. Still think that period is the golden era with so many banger songs. Then TWICE happened. First group I stanned, especially after following and watching their survival show SIXTEEN. But around this period too, I became aware of this group called Dreamcatcher, who just made their debut a little later and was fascinated by their debut song. Casual follower of the group till they dropped You&I. I was hooked to the song. As someone who grew up listening to Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park , MCR and the likes, I really love their music color that they put out. So I started my own deep dive into them, listening to their b-sides, watching their vlives, fan-made youtube contents, and then it happened. Like Jiu once said, Dreamcatcher is like a blackhole, once you enter, you can't get out. And that certainly was true for me. I love Twice although I don't vibe with alot of their songs, so I naturally ended up listening to Dreamcatcher way more than I expected. And now here I am, the one group I diligently follow. Working adult now, so I really only have the energy and time to spare for one group, and a casual listener for other groups. If Avril Lavigne, MCR, Paramore and the likes, defined my childhood phase, to me, I think Dreamcatcher defines my kpop and adulthood phase.

i will tell you the story of how i found dreamcatcher so here we go: It was early july 2022 and i decided to watch the live action aladdin for the first time, and in that movie was a song called Speechless and i liked it, and tought there is most likely a good cover of it on youtube so i went to check it out and then i found someone that would change my life forever. A asian woman whit the name Siyeon had a cover of it and i felt drawn to it for some reason not knowing why and being a little naive i tought well let me check it out real quick. When she began to sing i was thinking (oh this is good tbh its really good) and then she added power flawlessly and a softness to melt you whit and voice as good as anyone i had heard before, this made me interested in what she could do, i saw that she was in a k-pop group called Dreamcatcher and tought ah i dont even like k-pop but she was so good i just had to check out a song by them and that is when my life changed forever.
So i searched up dreamcatcher on youtube and found a song called scream that had a picture that looked like fantasy style and i liked fantasy so i clicked and went full screen. What came next blew my mind i barely understood anything they said still i felt moved i liked it very much adn it was different to what i expected it wasnt like the k-pop i disliked. So when i finished up the song i went straight to look at what else they had and found a song called Piri i clicked and i said to myself "i hope they arent just a 1 hit wonder" and Piri proved that was not the case cause it was incredible too.
so over the next few weeks all i listened to was Dreamcatcher and i watched guides, personality videos, MV's, selfmade MV's and special clips oh and i cant forget the vlogs and i fell in love whit them their personalitys their songs and everything else.
and Siyeon had a special place in my heart i felt extra connected to her and ofc since she was the one to introduse me to this group she became my BIAS

The seven year curse is because most debut contract is for seven year, and it is common that the contract is not renewed for lot of resons from both the companies side or the members side.

I’m thankful to have shared the journey with Dreamcatcher and so grateful for the chance to connect with my fellow Insomnia. We’re from all over the globe and are drawn to DC for various reasons but the love we share for the music and the group unites us. You are the sweetest bunch of people I’ve met, online and in person. Love DC and Insomnia ❤️

The first two kpop song I heard were in spring 2020 the opening and closing songs for the anime Tower of God, by Stray Kids. Just after that, I was watching a reaction on UA-cam to a song by an italian comedy metal band, which mixes metal and reggae (norwegian reggaeton). In the comments I sow someone suggesting the song Boca from Dreamcatcher. I'll never find again that video and that comment, but I'm grateful to that insomnia! I started listening to Boca, Scream, DejaVu, then went back to the beginning of their discography. Then I discovered the fan channels, like insomnicsy and the b-sides. Now, since I work on PC, almost everyday I listen to their songs, the covers, or listen to reactions on UA-cam while doing easy activities.
2020 was also the year when I was locked at home from march to summer thanks to covid pandemic, and even after I had reduced social interactions. At that time I think that I've seen these beautiful seven faces on screen more than the faces of my friends and colleagues.
I also found out soon enough that they were in Italy in 2019, but I didn't know them until maybe six months later!! If only I knew! Anyway, I've seen them live in Paris in 2022 and I'll be in London next month. See you there!

I discovered Dreamcatcher from a reaction video. I saw the thumbnail for You and I in the thumbnail for the reaction and I thought it looked cool. By the time it got to the chorus I had to stop watching the reaction and go watch the MV. I watched all their videos straight away and they immediately became my ult girl group. Exo is my ult boy group.
This was about a week before Deja Vu released so I consider that my first comeback with them because I was already in love by then.

I got in to Kpop in late 2018 (yet another of the K/DA generation) and somehow, through reaction videos (wish I could be sure whose) found Dreamcatcher late the following summer as they were preparing for "Deja Vu". I was instantly hooked, and the more I learned, the more I loved. Just a few months later I was extremely fortunate to get to see them perform live (without Handong, sadly) in Los Angeles in December 2019. They were not my first Kpop love but they're my ride-or-die group now. I've been lucky enough to meet them several times and see them perform half a dozen times (in both the US and last week in Seoul) and they are a FANTASTIC live experience (especially if you can get close to the stage as they are very interactive with the audience). I can't wait for the next time!

First of all congrats on getting to see them in concert and thank you for sharing your DC journey! I've always found it fascinating to hear how other people get into DC.
For me personally, I got into Kpop during 2nd gen era, so it was when Big Bang, 2NE1, SNSD were just starting out. I was more of a casual listener though and I never really bought any albums and all that. DC is the only Kpop group that I've spent money on (lol). I got to know the girls from watching a reaction video to the song You & I when it was released. Silver Yoohyeon immediately caught my eye and of course the song slaps so I started listening to the rest of their songs and years later, here I am now.

gotta practice what you will say at hi-touch or else you might not say anything lol
group photo is nice since you will have a slightly better chance for longer interaction and don't wear long sleeve ;)

I am so jealous right now. I missed the chance to see them live in Orlando back in September (My son was getting married in October, so I was saving up to make the trip to be there for that) but seeing these girls live in concert is my ultimate bucket list wish. I wish you a bon voyage, and if you get the chance, tell them that Dylan says hi! lol, just kidding :) )
Side note: Incidentally, I discovered them quite by accident; I had a friend who was into BTS, she recommended them, and because they were in my feed... not really my thing, but BlackPink came up as a recommendation, I found a reaction channel that said that (paraphrasing here) "I think Rosie would sound good covering something from Evanescence or Dreamcatcher"|. Well, I knew who Amy Lee was, but I had never heard of Dreamcatcher, so I checked them out. Been an Insomnia ever since. Soz for the book, but I feel like I had to get that out! lol.

More on the history of contracts in kpop. Prior to 2009 kpop contracts could be arbitrarily long from the point of a group's debut. TVXQ fought their 13-year contract in court since successful groups were kept well away from anything like the actual earnings of the group by such contracts which could not be renegotiated. As a consequence for that suit starting 2010 Korean regulators limited contracts to 7 years. The consequence of that was that often at least one member of any group would be more popular and successful than the rest and would see much more return if they went solo. And so since 2010 it's been pretty rare for groups both to stay at their original company and remain whole with the original members. TWICE did so pretty much right at their deadline. Dreamcatcher did so well before their deadline which speaks well for how the individual members value each other and how well DCC values the group.

I'm like you in regards to the concert. I like to be immersed in the concert. And it's better to get interactions from the members. Every concert I've gone to, I've had many meaningful interactions with the members. This one is from the Nashville concert: ua-cam.com/video/wY5HA3o8Dfc/v-deo.htmlsi=A41dfMNBx9vv4jfr&t=608 JiU did that just for me.
