I tried making paints a long time back and then quit it due to school...but now you're given me motivation to try it again ....thanks a lot for this video
Just want to say thank you so much for creating and sharing this video! I’ve been searching for months to find a solid and reliable source for learning how to make my own watercolors and yours is the first in depth one. Thank you so, so much for sharing your knowledge 🥰☺️🤍
It's been an absolute pleasure 🥰❤️... You're so kind to have mentioned. Thank you 💝. I remember the days I was looking for a video to learn about it. I struggled a lot for 2-3 months to get the recipe and proportions right. I was hoping it'll help someone who's starting out ❤️✨
@@crafterine most people don’t go into as much depth about what you need and why, the fact that your paint can and will go bad. It’s nice to have someone go into such details when you’re looking into a new hobby
That's really sweet! When I started working on paint making as a hobby , it took at least 3 months to get to the recipe of binder that works for me. To be honest, the struggle was real. I couldn't find anything online that would help me. I filmed this video with an intent to help everyone who's willing to take up this hobby.
I'm really glad to know that it helped :) . I've been there, but I believe there are a few who do share their process if you ask :). I prefer to keep my method transparent. Have fun making your own watercolors ❤️
oh yes, I'm sorry about the audio in it. The gum arabic : distilled water ratio would be 1:2 (provided it's gum arabic powder). If it's gum arabic crystals, the raio would vary.
Please be careful with the glass you choose to mix on. Glass from a photo frame may break and has sharp edges. Much better to use a tile or tempered glass mat. Great vid. TFS
I always liked the look of metallic watercolours because of how shiny and thick they look. But I wonder if can eyeshadows also be used for it since it's made of mica and pigment? Tyty :)
Just thought of it too since i have many palettes i cant use due to allergies 😅 i would say it works since ive also used it to color resin before. It just takes a little while to get the pressed pigments lose again. If youre trying to make your own watercolors and when you have eyeshadows you dont use you should give it a try 🤷🏼♀️
The only essential oil I know that can serve as a preservative is clove oil. Is there any other? Clove oil increases my blood pressure so I would rather avoid using it. Thank you for the video! It is very generous of you to share recipes and tips.
It's been a pleasure filming this process ✨... You can try using Thyme essential oil, oxgal or other preservatives. I believe citric essential oils also work, but then I haven't tried it personally. I hope any of these help ❤️✨
Thank you for this very informative video! I can not wait to try making my own paints. I also plan on checking out your etsy shop! I just had a few questions that I hope you will answer. 1. What is the measurement for honey and preservatives that you add? 2. How long do you let your paints dry? What if you don't have a strong source of sunlight to help with the drying? We have very long dreary winters here in Chicago! Thanks again!
I would suggest using a stick blender for mixing it's much quicker and easier to get rid of lumps. Essential oils are not a preservative and will not work I suggest using glycerin instead and then adding honey.
Thank you so much for the tips. It means a lot to me. I believe not all essential oils but a couple of them do have antibacterial properties which help in preserving. Oxgall does help too.
Hey! Thankyou for the knowledge you shared, it's so difficult to find affordable watercolours here in India! :( So I was thinking of making some for my use too! Can you tell what pigments should we use for making color shifters? Which brand's pigments do you use or suggest?
Hello! This is very informative!! Great work there!❤❤ Very helpful for me, because I always find the process for making paints very satisfying!😍 Not sure if it is for real, easy? More like a labour of love💞😂

Can I ask how you measure out the 5 grams of pigment powder? Do you use a digital food scale to weigh or a measuring spoon? If a measuring spoon which increment is 5 grams? Would it be one quarter (¹/4 teaspoon)? Do you ship to the USA on Etsy? I would love to try your paints. They look gorgeous. Also when you go to refill the pans for the second time after they had time to cure and dry do you have to make a whole new batch again for the second pour? Thanks for your help.
I get small mini sachets of mica powder, each of 5g. You can use those tiny and precise weighing scale for smaller quantities too. I haven't really done a teaspoon measurement since each pigment has a different density :). Thank you so much for checking out my shop. At the moment, I ship only within Europe, but worldwide shipping is in my to-do list :). While filling in for the next layer, sometimes I use the Pigment that I have leftover, for earth Pigments, I would mull them fresh again for topping the pans ☺️. I hope this helps
Unfortunately granulation doesn’t work this way. Mulling helps break down the pigment and it’s essential to get smooth paint out of it (or the artist who paints with it would find pigment breaking out on the canvas). However, granulation is a property of the pigment itself. Some granulate and some don’t (no matter how long you mull or not mull). I hope it makes sense 😅

It took approximately 2 weeks for me. But it depends on the pigment, the amount of binder that’s added and also honey. Too much honey makes it sticky and dries super slow.

With 5g I can make up to 2 half pans , and there's a little bit of pigment left to make dot cards.
