Actually, this is what's commonly believed: The First Amerindian Natives are postulated to have come from Asia through the Bering land bridge between 30,000-12,000 years before the present (BP).
The book They Came Before Columbus published in 1976 deals mostly with his arguments for an African origin of Mesoamerican culture in the Western Hemisphere. Although Van Sertima ,a Black literary critic, author, historian, and anthropologist, provided numerous archaeological evidence of the presence of Africans in the New World prior to Columbus, was mostly ignored in Mesoamericanist scholarship, and was dismissed as Afrocentric pseudoarchaeology and pseudohistory.

I like your "monsoon wind" theory. I also came across some information about ocean currents. The Africans understood the ocean currents and described it as a "river in the ocean". This current goes in a circular route and goes from the African coast to South America. It was even described that the most unexperienced sailor could make it. A European tried to do this experiment and he made despite the mast of his boat breaking.
