  • On April 29, 1947, 77 years ago, a tornado struck Worth, Missouri, in Worth County from northwest Missouri. In the 2000's, I grew up at my family's farmhouse on End 220th Road in western Worth. To show views around the country and how small farms towns have food groceries, high schools, and homes and buildings destroyed by tornadoes, I began making videos. An EF 3 or 4 tornado hit Worth, MO at 3:25 PM with lots of damage. 13 people were killed, and 59 were injured in the aftermath. Maryville Aid workers unloaded food and drink for people who lost their homes in Worth County.

I was talking with my grandparents about tornadoes today and my grandpa mentioned this tornado. His father’s brother lived in town and survived it. The tornado picked him up in his Model A as he was trying to beat it home and he ended up waking up in a fence row. The tornado ended up missing his house. My grandpa also told me that the teachers had evacuated the school and probably saved the lives of all the students there. I think the school building was completely destroyed.
