Looked forward to this one so much Luke because as you know, D213 Andania was the loco driven by my Grandfather on his last day before retiring from BR in the late 60's, wonderful to see the old girl ( as he called her) still doing such great work among great company for LSL. Thanks for spending the time and effort in putting together another superb video, and my thanks to LSL for giving you the access. My Grandad would have loved to know that D213 is beautifully turned out.
The old girl gave a sterling effort mate, she sounded and ran as good as she looked. I'm sure your old Grandad would be blown away with her still running so well. He'd have loved hearing her roar out of Preston like she did!
Indeed what a video! Well done to all involved it was a superb tour with the most incredible variety of diesel traction. The line side foot especially over the S&C was excellent.
Wow thanks very much Peter, glad you enjoyed it mate. Big shoutout to LSL and everyone onboard, they treated me like part of the team and I'm sure I must have been getting in their way at times.
Well, Luke, I think you have set a new benchmark with this marathon video! Wonderful to meet some of the team that brought the tour together. Well done indeed! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Cheers Darren, something a bit different but I'm glad people seem to have enjoyed it. Was a real pleasure to put together so hopefully we can one day do something similar.
Great video, the LSL depot is like heaven for us enthusiasts the North west wanderer was a great railtour indeed, I only caught it once at Acton bridge on its first leg
Cheers mate, hopefully should be able to show you a little more of the depot some time soon. A mate of mine was on Acton Bridge too, looked to be really giving it some getting up to line speed after being held at Winsford.
as you say what a video, nearly shat myself when i saw a 50 coming at me full chat over shap, made this freight drivers day, would of traded my skodas for your 50 any day, thanks for all you do to provide us with the means to enjoy these special trips, must try and get on one when i retire next month, good for LSL for allowing you access and so nice to see a clean rake of stock on the railway
Haha brought back to days gone by with that coming at you mate! Not a bad place to be coming down in a pair of 90's though I bet. Enjoy your retirement Allan.
Wonderful to have played a part in getting this tour out of the door, even if only small. Great video, worth the watch. P.S. hope the white buffers on the 50 were liked, I put them on on the Friday along with the hastily applied CD stickers 😂
It was one hell of a tour mate, I did notice the buffer paint haha, going back through the footage I noticed they weren't there for the test run then appeared on the Saturday! Great job mate, it looked bang on 👍
Absolutely FANTASTIC video! Amazing to see a behind-the-scenes view of such an operationally ambitious tour. Hats off to the LSL staff who made this possible. I was indeed among the hoard of enthusiasts for the 37s departing Preston - absolutely stand-out moment from the day.
Thanks a lot mate, really enjoyed your coverage from your chase. Looks like it was mega. You even got the back of my mate at Winsford filming for this vid haha, you definitely chose the right place there to get it powering out of the loop after being held! 37's were the standout for me too, hellfire.
What an outstanding video of an outstanding tour. The loco's, rolling stock and even the staff were incredibly well turned out! Thanks in particular for the shot taken at Clegg Hall bridge at 30 minutes in. I spent many a day there spotting in the 70's and 80's.
Well noticed on the Clegg Hall shot mate, nice for me to see too as I was born and grew up in Littleborough. Spectacular shot looking back with Blackstone Edge in the background. Cheers
What an epic day Luke . Thanks for bringing it to us and massive thanks to LSL for giving you access to do this . The sounds were incredible especially the 37s giving it plenty wellie.
Cheers Les, those 37's sounded unbelievable! Coming off the tight curve at Todmorden they shook the viaduct getting up to line speed! Really was an epic day all round.
Magnificent! And the shot coming over Ais Gill....just perfect. Really nice to have the inside track (sorry) on how the tours are put together and ran. I think some may take them for granted but it's really a very special privilege to be able to ride on one of these tours. Thank you for the insight and the spectacular videos, much appreciated.
Thanks very much Phil, the guys did an amazing job with the passing shots. I’m glad that all came off because that’s exactly what I wanted to show which we’ve never really been able to see before. Really shows how much effort is put into these kind of things. I’ll let the joke slide this time 😂 cheers mate.
Luke, what an absolutely brilliant production! The amount of planning you had to do to bring us this must have taken a considerable amount of time. I reckon your work should go to a much wider audience. The LSL place is like Aladdin's cave with such a collection of locos and stock. Thanks again.
Cheers John, it was pretty crazy trying to plan everything but to be fair LSL made things so easy and gave me so much freedom to get what we needed to. You may be saying more into the Aladdin’s cave in the coming weeks 😉
What a top notch film made by yourself . A fantastic novel idear the behind the scenes approach makes for a very interesting watch . Well done to yourself and a big thanks to LSL/InterCity tours for allowing you to record it.
A superb video which not only showcased LSL's beautifully restored and operated diesel locos but also their very professional team of on-board staff. Always enjoy your videos and this was definitely one of the best!
Thanks Stuart, really appreciate that mate. Glad I could show you a different side of the tour, was a little unsure of how it would go down as it's a departure from my usual stuff but really glad how people seem to have enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed the chronicling of this trip. Great effort showing those making it happen. Growing up in Edinburgh the ScotRail livery evoked many great memories of passing through Waverly as a kid. Cheers from New Jersey!
Thanks John, was a lot of work to get it out so quickly (for me) whilst it was still in peoples minds but definitely worth it, glad so many people seem to have enjoyed it.
wow Luke what a fab day and to top it all we had all the best sounding locos .always a pleasure to watch the effort you put in is commendable look forward to the next one .used to see class 40s and 45s go through stalybridge all the time in the 80s
Oh wow, now I didn't go and see this tour but seen others go out and do their thing. The Ultimate Diesel Gala on the West Coast Mainline. Outstanding work and performance by the staff and volunteers which makes the day even more special. Lost for words but absolutely incredible to watch :-)
Thank you for the great video mate, goes to show how hard the people work behind the scenes to provide the opportunity for us all to enjoy there wonderful older machines! Absolutely brilliant l!
This. Is. Superb. The behind the scenes footage and seeing the work of the crew to produce the food etc added to the whole episode. As a footnote if ever you want to know WHAT all the fuss is about with class 37s turn up your surround sound to max , dial up the low frequency and listen to the pair of them flat out from 33.30 minutes onwards. FANTASTIC 😊
Thanks a lot mate! The pair of 37s were the absolute stars of the show for me, the sound for their entire run was next level. I tried to record some sound of them going through Summit Tunnel but they were so loud my microphone couldn't handle it even set at 5% haha.
There are many highlights in this excellent video. One is that it helps the understanding of the costs associated with these tours, and hence the price charged to those who wish to enjoy them.
Thanks Stephen, I’m glad I could highlight aspects like that. I’m sure the majority of this one will have gone to a full day of thrashing through diesel! Haha.
Some fantastic filming there Luke with some classic traction. Well done to LSL and their staff. It might be an idea for LSL to bring back the "Merrymaker" tours to places all over the UK using their traction, when I was a youngster these ran on a almost weekly basis and were ideal for families and enthusiasts alike.
That's a blast from the past mate. I've got a Merrymaker badge my Grandad gave me when I was a kid somewhere in the house haha. Glad you enjoyed it David, cheers.
Brilliant video …. Hearing the whistler thrash sends shivers down my spine. Living in Ireland means that I hear the equivalent of a well loved engine …. Class 071 GM locos, but nothing beats a whistler.
Cheers Nigel, it did sound incredible with the extra weight of a 50 and 45 sandwiched in the train 👌🏻 recently spent some time over in Ireland, got a very interesting mix of trains for a ‘newbie’.
Really enjoyed the video, loved the content. You highlighted in the video, and I was going to comment on amount of interest heritage rail still generates. Even late in the day there was a good number of people out videoing the tour. Thanks to everyone involved.
Thanks Andrew and yeah you make a great a great point, almost every single station and field we passed had a big crowd out to see that fantastic traction.
What a fantastic watch that was - brilliant stuff Luke, thanks for putting it together and thanks also to the guys who did the lineside shots - they were great too! And of course to LSL for allowing it to happen! If only everyday service trains were like that....!! 🙂
Oh wow! Luke, thank you SO much for this video. You promised a special earlier in the week on the live webcam chat and you really have delivered. I'm thrilled and envious in equal measure.
Great coverage of the build up and footage inside the train before the tour, and while on the train Luke. I did a silly 520 to cover the tour filming at many places. Well done again for uploading this video Luke, regards Mike.
SUPERB!!! So I was right with what I was thinking when we spoke at Guide Bridge 😉. Honestly pal probably the best UA-cam video I've seen for ages. Keep up the good work Craig 😉👍
Halfway through the film and so far what a great "behind the scenes" insight - I did the 45 trip to Duffield and was as always very impressed by the professionalism and good humour of the on board team. Thank you to all involved.
Stunning sir, great to see behind at the action end of these events, remember the class 45 and 46s doing the trans Pennie routes, but as a child never liked them and it's still stuck with me today.
Thanks a lot David, really thankful to my mates/team for getting out for all those lineside shots. Tough to pick a favourite, they all sounded top notch!
Thanks for making such a professional video. Your videos are always superb. What a great day out, possibly better than sitting on Preston station for 24 hours 😂. I must admit that I’ve always liked the intercity colour scheme, it’s great that it’s still about. What a fantastic selection of classic diesel locomotives.
You have excelled yourself mate! We have all come to expect great things from you but you have topped the lot this time. You're really going to have to work your socks off to keep up this standard - we have faith.
This video gives me great memories of back in 78-79 when I was working around Glasgow, but every weekend I used to travel home to Leeds on the 16.10 from Glasgow Central arr Leeds 20.45. With a 47 hauling us the old style buffet car was like my local bar. Same staff and travellers every week, all bringing a carry-on of 8 cans of Tennants. The route was Glasgow/Carlisle/Leeds/Nottingham of course going over Ribblehead. The weekend return fare? £11.49. #goodolddays
Haha great story mate, that must have been brilliant. What a weird route it took, going to look into that to see which way it used to go. Add a zero on the end of that £11.49 and you'll probably be getting a bit closer these days!
Great vid. I've been a few places by train, even up to Carlisle and back on Northern, and Preston. I've had the 20s at thrall during RHT work, and you could here them once they had gone down towards colton junction. Brilliant, can't say anymore ❤
Awesome thanks Luke.!! Not heard a peak for a while and that was very memorable .!!nearly cleared all the peaks (45/46) on the liv-new or Scarborough going past your house .!😂😂thx for the nostalgia fantastic insight.!👏👏👏
To regain our pick-up stations we will now steer across West Yorkshire and through the Pennine Hills via Diggle (subject to pathing) to reach Stockport, then transit the Potteries to Stafford and back to Taunton to complete the itinerary.... Class 50's going through Diggle tonight, Pathfinder tour. Hope you're there to capture it.
Lucky boy Luke. You would have struggled to get such traction variety even in the good owd days of rail tours. I missed the whole of it through work even though it was on my Preston door step. Oh well cant win em all 👍
Haha that's true mate, that much variety would have been a great day even back in the day. Can't win em all mate but glad I could at least catch you up with a vid 👍
Wow! That was so amazing! I feel like I’ve been on the journey with you, (only much more comfortably from my sofa)! Who was it did the on-location shots from outside, as the train passed the various locations?
Thanks a lot mate, apologies for the slow reply this one somehow passed by but glad I found it again! Very fortunate to have some good mates out and about chasing the tour for the passing shots. The one downside of being on it is you can’t see it thundering past!
Stars of the day for me those 37's mate. We're thrashing from the minute we set off! I recorded some footage in Summit Tunnel of them but they were so loud my mic couldn't handle it even on 5% haha. Mega.

Really good video and the crowds watching was awesome. The 2 20`s done very well with the load.
Thanks mate, those 20's were fantastic!
Indeed what a video! Well done to all involved it was a superb tour with the most incredible variety of diesel traction. The line side foot especially over the S&C was excellent.
Thanks a lot mate and I’ll pass that on to the guys that got us the lineside shots. Can’t beat the S&C for a scenic background!
Best ever 39 minutes of my YT life !!! Thank you, and LSL and all the staff on that train.
Wow thanks very much Peter, glad you enjoyed it mate. Big shoutout to LSL and everyone onboard, they treated me like part of the team and I'm sure I must have been getting in their way at times.
These old locos have got a huge following I am stagered by it
They sure do mate, this one surprised me with how popular it was though!
Well, Luke, I think you have set a new benchmark with this marathon video!
Wonderful to meet some of the team that brought the tour together.
Well done indeed! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thanks so much mate, that means an awful lot, the whole reason myself and LSL did this. Cheers!
Really enjoyed the chronicling of this trip. Great effort showing those making it happen. Growing up in Edinburgh the ScotRail livery evoked many great memories of passing through Waverly as a kid. Cheers from New Jersey!
Cheers from across the pond mate, glad I could bring you some nostalgia for days gone by.
You did a sterling job there Luke, thanks. Dry much indeed, it’s been a pleasure to watch the video, you have put a lot of work into that.

Outstanding work and performance by the staff and volunteers which makes the day even more special.

Cheers Neil, glad you enjoyed it as that’s exactly what I wanted to show.
Fantastic video Luke. Loved every minute. Must have been an amazing day for you. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Cheers Geoff, it really was a fantastic day, long, but fantastic all the same.

Cheers mate, yeah a huge thanks to all my mates for getting out there and doing their chases, was a long long day for them too but they smashed it!
Great video man, Lovely watch!
Thank you for uploading and going to the effort to show us the behind the scenes of all this!
Cheers Mark, this above all others was genuinely my pleasure ha.
Oh wow! Luke, thank you SO much for this video. You promised a special earlier in the week on the live webcam chat and you really have delivered. I'm thrilled and envious in equal measure.
Thanks as always Ruth, I do my best to always bring you something worth watching so glad I could deliver!
Thanks to everyone involved with this remarkable video. A great day of nostalgia and joy.
Thanks a lot Alibee, glad you enjoyed it!
Great coverage of the build up and footage inside the train before the tour, and while on the train Luke.
I did a silly 520 to cover the tour filming at many places.
Well done again for uploading this video Luke, regards Mike.
Cheers Mike, your efforts weren’t in vain mate your vid of the tour was fantastic 👌🏻 hope you’re well mate.
All your videos are good, but this has to be one of the best. Superb!
Cheers Alan, really glad to hear that, much appreciated 👍🏻

Cheers Craig, haha yeah a little more to come too possibly as you know. Really appreciate that mate, hope you're well.
What a superb video Luke. I enjoy all your videos but this one is a masterpiece - superbly edited. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Thank you sir, appreciate that as there was some late nights editing, mixing and mastering to try and get it out whilst it was still in peoples minds.
Halfway through the film and so far what a great "behind the scenes" insight - I did the 45 trip to Duffield and was as always very impressed by the professionalism and good humour of the on board team. Thank you to all involved.
Thanks Chris, couldn't agree more with your comments on the staff, wonderful bunch of people.
Stunning sir, great to see behind at the action end of these events, remember the class 45 and 46s doing the trans Pennie routes, but as a child never liked them and it's still stuck with me today.
Thanks a lot mate, hoping we get the Peak back over the Trans Pennine and through Diggle again soon.
Hellfire! Great video, would love to have been on board. You are a very lucky man getting behind the scenes.
Here's to the next video.
Thanks a lot Gary, very lucky indeed it was an awesome tour!
Excellent video. Congrats to all involved.
Cheers Scooby 👍🏻
Fantastic Luke, well done, we all appreciate your efforts
Thanks Sheila, glad you enjoyed it!
Really good video again. Thanks so much for making and posting these.

Superb video as always, great lineside footage too. Excellent sounds of the locos on the day.
Thanks a lot David, really thankful to my mates/team for getting out for all those lineside shots. Tough to pick a favourite, they all sounded top notch!
Absolutely superb video Luke what a lineup of Diesels Thankyou so much really enjoyed it mate take care.
Glad I thought to have a little walk around the back of the shed to see that lineup mate, not every day you see something like that! Cheers mate.
Fantastic video Luke, hope they do a repeat of that sometime soon. I’ll start saving now!
I'd be on it in a heartbeat too if they ever ran it again mate. Amazing trip. Cheers
That was a superb video and so comprehensive..... thanks you so much !!
Thanks very much Adrian, tried to bring you as much as possible from inside and out, so i'm glad that came across!
Haha cheers mate, I'd definitely take a comfortable mk3 chair over a bench on Preston station at 3 in the morning.
You have excelled yourself mate! We have all come to expect great things from you but you have topped the lot this time. You're really going to have to work your socks off to keep up this standard - we have faith.
Don't know what to say to that mate, thanks very much 👍 I'll do my best to keep improving and keeping that subscription worth it for you!
Excellent footage Luke thanks for posting.
Cheers Tony, much appreciated. It was my pleasure!
Great video I enjoyed every minute of it thanks for sharing your experiences.
Thanks very much! Really glad you enjoyed it.
This video gives me great memories of back in 78-79 when I was working around Glasgow, but every weekend I used to travel home to Leeds on the 16.10 from Glasgow Central arr Leeds 20.45. Great vid. I've been a few places by train, even up to Carlisle and back on Northern, and Preston. I've had the 20s at thrall during RHT work, and you could here them once they had gone down towards colton junction. Brilliant, can't say anymore ❤
Cheers Andrew, those 20's sounded great pulling hard along the WCML. It's such a nice trip heading up to Carlisle through the Lakes.
Fantastic insight. What a treat. Brilliant work young man 👍

It was one hell of an experience mate, with a bit of luck I might be able to show you around that depot soon.

Thanks a lot Jake 👍
What an incredible video Luke, amazing job,, 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Cheers Mark, really glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing video! Watching this is making me want to go on a diesel hauled railtour😮 from a steam buff no less
Bloomin heck mate that's saying a lot! Glad you enjoyed it pal, was a very special tour!
I’ll be there mate!! Hoping to get them pulling around the curve at Marsden tunnel end.
Absolutely brilliant video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Your like “Carlsberg” in the UA-cam train world 🤣
Probably mate 🤣 Haha cheers Richard, glad you enjoyed it.
Great video.
Thanks mate 👍
A Peak on the S&C, very nostalgic.
Looked bloody great going over that stunning piece of the world mate.
I was there got you coming through Buckshaw Parkway
Very nice mate, I probably saw you without realising as we went past!
Love the 2 sets of hst blue Pullman’s didn’t realise both sets were rebuilt thought they got scrapped
Look beautiful mate don't they. Sadly the original units were all scrapped, these new ones are refurbished HST sets.
great vid
Cheers mate 👍
Nice one! Are You seeing the 1Z76? It passes Diggle at 08:10. It’s on Saturday
Cheers mate, I got up and out for the HST, very nostalgic seeing that Rio powercar!
On It! Hellfire tour great day good crack!
That should have been the strapline mate, Hellfire Tour sums it up pretty damn well!
Amazing 37s strum. Surely there's more than 100 passengers on that train though
Sounded great mate eh! There were 100 in dining, think it was around 400 on the whole tour.
Wow - quite the production! 👏👏 How many folks in your video team? I'd forgotten what being hauled by a 40 sounds like 😊
Thanks a lot Kryss, there were five of us including me out on the day to get all those passes. Day to day it’s just me on the usual vids though 👍🏻
Hi luke brilliant video are you possibly coming over to Wakefield on Sunday for the drax charters mate
Hi Anthony, sadly I couldn't get over there as I had too much on. Looks like I missed a great day too along with the Grid and old HAA wagons at Drax.
"There is no Short Platforms today!" Yey "There is a Social Media Team Today!" YEYEYEYY
Haha had to include that bit!
First I've heard about it.
Missed a good one mate 👍
Double Chibbles, that is all, drops mic ❤
Cheers mate 👍
Fascinating stuff! Did you manage to get out and see Tangmere on the Northern Belle during all the chaos?
I managed to see it pull in to Preston from the window of the kitchen car haha. Always looks fantastic!
Quite!
Thought the video had climaxed with that class 40 before hearing those class 37s thrashing their way out of Preston.
Stars of the day for me those 37's mate. We're thrashing from the minute we set off! I recorded some footage in Summit Tunnel of them but they were so loud my mic couldn't handle it even on 5% haha. Mega.
Never knew lsl had 2 Blue Pullmans or was One the Green Pullman? Thanks
You’re right mate one of them was the staycation express for a short time if I remember correctly.
