Thanks for the support wearing that Budget Sportsman T-Shirt and what a perfect video to wear it on. That was a fantastic test. When you started off saying the Amazon batteries didn't perform as well as you had hoped it made me doubt my recent purchase of 96 AB batteries. Then I felt better about it after seeing the outperformed the big brands. Considering, I only paid $.32 a piece for them, that actually brings them much closer to the performance of the lithiums. Of course the lithiums could be bought in bulk too to reduce the price... I will definitely have to consider that next time I order batteries.

I would’ve guessed he alkaline’s to go at least an hour or more, so I was definitely surprised when the AB’s fell short. Of course I was even more surprised when they pulled out a win in the alkaline category. I’ve never used their batteries before in my life but will consider them now for an alkaline option. The lithium’s still rule for video mode in the cold 👍

A huge plus for the Lithium is they don't leak and damage your equipment. I've lost a lot of low-use torches (flashlights) to battery leaks.

Excellent video!! I have been having trouble with my camera batteries and wondered what was best. Your video test came along just in time! It's really frustrating to check a camera just to find it hasn't been working. The Lithium batteries I tried seemed to last longer, but I wasn't sure the price was justified. Now I know it is and will be buying them from now on. THANK YOU!!

Great test! I agree with your results with the energizer lithiums! That’s all I use now! Another downside with any alkaline batteries 🔋 is that they can and will leak causing corrosion damage to your camera! The worst offenders seem to be the Duracells having had two cameras ruined by them! I get 18 packs of the ultimate lithium’s for $18.99 which is quite a bit cheaper than what you paid! Thanks for the great video!

Absolutely best video for this sort of topic. Thank you very much! I was really hoping for an over an hour for those little lithium cilinders, but they absolutely obliterated the alkaline technology. I was really looking for a long lasting aa batterie type, as I'm using them on some gps trackers, and they're not easy to get too. So seeing that I can potentially increase my struggle to replace them once a month to once a couple of months is a huge deal. Again, thank you! Gold material! Good luck with your channel!

Very impressive test. I've been using Energizer Lithium batteries for years. I don't see much difference between the Ultimate version and the regular version of lithiums. Alkaline batteries have been a waste of money and time. I'm starting to replace some of my batteries with lithium rechargeables but I can only afford batteries for one additional camera per month. I have 42 cameras in the field for mountain lions and most of my camera setups are at least a five mile hike from my vehicle. Battery life is absolutely critical as I'm not driving up to my camera setups. Thanks again for sharing this test. I was super impressed.

I use Panasonic Eneloop rechargeables in 5 different models and they all work pretty well. The run time will be greatly reduced, but it means I can swap out batteries before they're fully discharged rather than leaving it out and going flat and missing action (or having a lot of half used batteries). Everyone has a different situation.

Yep I only have 2 trail camera's both are older reconyx hyperfire 500's without video I have been using them for about 10 years now and work just as good as they have from day one just not all the modern technology that your using. Good test Dave. I think the last couple of 24 pack boxes of Energizer Lithium batteries I got from Amazon last spring were either counterfeit or defective. They were going dead almost as fast as alkaline, and with the fast drop-off at the end we were leaving cams at say 80% and coming back a week later and finding they'd been dead for several days. I may give the lithiums another try now. Thanks again, great video!

Thank you very much for this. Where I have my cameras in the foothills of the Rockies in western Alberta (365 days of the year faithfully) it does get extremely cold. Wind chill into the minus 50's and have always swore by Duracell. They last for months even in these harsh conditions. I tried Energizer and they were a waste of time. But I can't wait to try the lithium batteries. Just a quick story when trail cams first came out I bought one of them big old guys. Loaded it up with the big (i can't remember the size but they were the big ones and very expensive) Energizer batteries and left it for 45 days. The anticipation was killing me, what has my camera taken pics of? The only pics it took were two of me walking away from it after setting it. They died. As sad and frustrating as it was I believe they had sat on the shelf in the store too long as I don't expect they were a popular battery. In a couple days I'm going back out with three more cams I have added to my arsenal for a total of eight, with lithium batteries of course. Thank you.

I've been using Amazon Basics at our cabin in Minnesota based on Project Farm's video battery tests. I've considered the Energizer single use lithiums and really appreciate seeing your results. I set my trail camera for single shots only. The results suggest that they probably aren't strong enough to power the camera when it gets super cold but other than that they seem to do okay. Not only they have better runtime, the lithium primaries also are the best to resist cold temperatures when common alkalines or rechargeable Ni-Mh don't perform and get useless. Not only in AA or AAA formats, in CR123A too because they are never alkalines but lithium primaries or not rechargeable.

Nice test! Thanks. I have been using the lithiums in the winter for a couple years. The difference is unreal! The one con about them is that it seems the battery life readers on the cams are made for alkaline because the reading barely changes with the lithiums in it and so I can't really gauge when to change them, but for the recording time difference they are certainly well worth it. One other comment, in warmer temps I use the regular Rayovacs. They are made in the USA, which I like, and they are quite a bit cheaper than Duracell or Energizer and they last very well in moderate temps. I would have loved to see them in that test. I tried one set of the Rayovac Fusions and oddly enough, seemed to not last as long as the much cheaper regular ones! 🤔 Anyway, I appreciate the test! Have a great day!

something i found, that's kinda weird. but it's likely the cam. my browning strikeforce, it's the btc-5hd, so i think it's a 2014 model maybe. when i hike in to check cams, i'll open it and it'll say 83% for battery life. i'll pull the card, put it in my phone and transfer the vids over, then put the card back in the cam. when i then flip it on again to put back in it's box, now the battery level will be 95%.
think that would be accurate? and may be doing that because the cam was turned off briefly, and rested the batteries?

That’s a good question. The battery meter on the cams might not always be accurate but it’s also possible that giving them a break increases the voltage. 👍

Great experiment! I found your video very helpful. I have been using regular raovacs in my camera. I can only get a couple videos out of the camera before the batteries die. Its cold here, but I expected a little bit more. I will definitely check out some of the lithiums!👍

That was an awesome video and comparison. I ALWAYS use lithium in my cell cameras... not always in my regular cameras.... the last couple years we have noticed significant differences in even the lithium some batches were not lasting very long and some longer... same camera same location.. I think their quality has gone down some with everything going on in the world. Hopefully that changes in the future.. they still are by far the best as your very cool test showed. I thoroughly enjoyed that video!!

I appreciate you watching! I know there’s always some counterfeits out there. Usually if the price is too good to be true…beware 😁

    • @maximilianmustermann5763

I wouldn't buy them at the big A. Some stuff you just can't buy there because of counterfeits. It doesn't even matter if big A itself is the seller, they mix all the product in their storage facilities, so once some seller adds counterfeits, you'll get them randomly from all sellers. Happened to me twice with battery packs for Sony camcorders ("original" Sony, but they weren't)

Cell cameras ,I have found will drain batteries at irregular rates. What you think was a bad batch of batteries could be a result of the cellular signal being weak. The camera is draining the battery trying to stay connected to a weak cellular signal. I would like to see this demonstration ran on cell cameras

I have lithiums in three of my cameras and have been very happy with them. I have Duracells in my other cameras, and I figure once those batteries die, those cameras will be pulled.

Thanks for watching! You’re right, the prices have dramatically increased 🙁 I’m using Amazon basics in warm weather (still approximately$.26 each) and Lithium in the cold. Solar is becoming my go to to combat the battery prices 👍

@@HuntingFarmerOfficial I can’t even find AA lithium right now locally. If they were to be found They would be .09 per minute with your testing. That’s still better at high prices.

You provided some great information Dave. I run my trail cameras all year as well. May have to checkout those Amazon batteries. After seeing your results, I will have to invest money into those Energizer Lithium batteries. The intro gave me chuckle, and the t-shirt had me checking out The Budget Sportsman. Thanks for sharing.

while i am not using the batteries for trail cams, the dang lithium batteries nearly doubles in price from when the video was created(24 for an 8 pack where i am at) and a 100 pack of the amazon basic is only 25 cents per battery so more than half the price from when the video was created. i havent checked many local shops but idk if any battery can beat amazon basic price/performance wise. if you need a battery to last long due to not being able to constantly change them out then the lithiums are still the way to go.

Pretty much what I expected, and as you know I recently left my cameras in the field too long and the cold temperatures in the New Jersey wood were too much for my Amazon Basic AA. Now during warmer weather months, while the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA still out perform any Alkaline AA, the alkaline AA perform much better, and almost always is the more economical AA. Depending on the research projects I have going at the time and how many, I personally have as many as 30 or 35 cameras in the field for weeks at a time and I use the Amazon Basic Alkaline AAs from mid-May until November 1st. when I switch over to Lithium AA... and on some cameras we have the Solar Panels year-round.
I great appreciate this video and I'll refer friends and colleagues to it when I get asked about batteries and cold weather. It will save me some writing... 😉
    Thanks...
