- For us enthusiasts the overall health of our car's engine is crucially important. Without having a good running engine, we can't enjoy the car to it's full potential. And forget about tuning a weak engine, as it'll easily become a money pit. In today's video I will show you the easiest to determine whether your engine is ready for tuning or just a couple hundred miles away from blowing up! We will be using my BMW F30 335i as the tester, since it's clappped.

Thank you for mentioning me!!!! And, thank you for saving us from buying "The Clapper". Very happy with our buy!
black stone isn’t a definite analysis when it comes to rod bearings. there are plenty of people who’ve had perfect tests and then engine blows a week later due to rod bearings. still a good test to do regardless though!
Correct. Something I definitely wanted to address and completely forgot to.
Nahhh son….. when you said they gonna send you a report card that says CLAPPED I fucking cried
As always, you provide great content
I did them in my 135i, and that was one of the best things I’ve ever done with the car. Cylinder 4 was showing serious wear when I took them out at 135k mi.
I've been using them with every oil change since my twin turbo engine had 0 miles. Easiest way to keep track of your engines health.
How often do u do it?
Can I bring you my car for timing chain install?
@@pri0r_t0_a_weekago...fukwi48 every oil change. Interval depends how hard I pushed the car during that time, but on average 1,500-3k miles.
I've been doing oil samples via black stone for years on a ton of cars. My f30 328i has 208.000 mi (fingers crossed-please keep going). The oil sample will show u if copper is high this showing bearing wear, aluminium to show timing chain issues. I've always ran REAL syn oil PAO and or ester like Motul sport ester 5w50. Last two years I've ran shell helix ultra 0w40 (pennzoil euro). Engine was replaced and Computer had 78,000 on it when I got it. So yes blackstone is a required
I’ve owned my 435i since 18k miles. It’s now 62k miles and I have only replaced the charge pipe, spark plugs and coils for preventative maintenance. My car is tuned and no issues at all. Not sure why everyone is getting so many maintenance issues with the n55. This thing is solid.
I run mhd stage 2+ and do my fair share of pulls. I’ve only got 80k on mine, I’ve put 20k on it tuned. I change spark plugs regularly, probably once every 6 months. And coils tend to go here and there. Other then that, it takes quite a load of abuse and power and comes back for more then next day
@@SLAutoRepair can you send me your mods.
Thank you for the shout out😁. And thank you for saving us from that monster😁😉😂
Do some f01 stuff really interested in the details stuff like this for the 2009-2014 7 series nice video as always
I doubt he's going to do videos on those garbage cars
N55s are notorious for destroying eccentric shafts and the DME blows with the servomotor.
I love your videos I recently bought a e90 n55 and the the rod bearings spun within a week of having it now I have to buy a new motor
How many miles?
@@fedexboy007 140,000
Christian do you buy your parts from FCP Euro love your videos 👍👍🇬🇧
where's this shop? I'm currently in orlando and would love to pass by
The e93 I bought and loved for years off the strength of your channel (been watching since day 1)....well I sold her last week and bought a Tesla Model S the next day. I loved the platform and my god was she fun....but the constant nature of the failures finally got to me! Still subscribed and will always be watching regardless though!
You needed to do the rod bearing
Easier way to tell you need your rod bearings looked at is by finding them behind you mid-pull
Be careful of the early engine modeled N55 motors. They are prone to rod bearing failures now that they are getting up there in mileage. Happened to me on my 2011 F10 535i. It has been a terrible experience
Change your oil every 3-5k, don’t beat on the car until the engine is warm and you shouldn’t have rod bearing failure
@@johnnychimpo7539 Problem is that for the first 36k miles these cars had 15k mile oil change intervals. Seems like the way the first owners who leased these cars maintained them by the BMW maintenance schedule is catching up to the 3rd or 4th owner now.
@@bimmerbuds absolutely. That is criminal that they do that but any person with common sense will get a couple additional oil changes (especially people who have more performance based car). I have a 328i that I can beat on and neglect and the motor and rod bearings will be fine. I would never do that to an m3 or m5 or I’d be hurting financially (I assume). I’m just speculating though, we all are
Rotella t6 ftw
I’m from Europe. Can anyone suggest a blackstone analogue? :)
Both my friends n55 engines do that too it's just a faint little knocking noise from the bottom end you can only really hear it when it's up on the hoist running. Not saying it's good or normal but definitely not uncommon.
Yeah, that's the sound. Maybe it's normal. However , the metal shavings in the oil filter is not a good sign.
@@VehicleVirals nope, good thing you caught it.. Hopefully it's not too late.
Is your n55 a pwg?
probably
Brother that oil sticker you put on the bottle is for the windshield🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣like you write the oil type and milage on the paper
Always buy a warranty
Bruh wtf. Oil that watery is scary
Water in the oil. Isn't that head gasket?
"Not sponsored"
or u can just send it
First
Can we talk about you keep on saying it’s free? It’s not free, you still have to pay for the analysis. Just because you get the bottle for free before you have to pay for the service, it’s not free
As I stated in the video.
What's the problem? The test kit is free... the service is not... he's just explaining the process
lol open up your ears 👂
Definitely an unnecessary video
Bro the chime gave me ptsd …
Also just got my first bmw and it was also pretty neglected and im about to do the oil change and hopefully I don’t see no shavings 🥲
