I’m considering the ultra, but noticed Garmin Marq 2 series released just last week. The ultra provides the best integration with an Apple phone, but the Garmin is seems to be better for sports and adventurists combined with more elegant looks and better build quality then the ultra. Would you consider to do an unboxing video of the Garmin Marq 2 or comparison to the ultra?

The microphones do not choose which one of 3 to use, It uses all three with beam forming technology to pick up your voice and remove background noise. Apple also mentioned that they incorporated machine learning into the microphones to work in the most extreme conditions (wind,etc.)
That’s why it sounded different when you turned your head on the phone call. BeamForming kinda requires you to face the microphone array.

You're smart and you exercise the wisdom of mostly speaking from experience and calmly relating both your expectations and the results. I wish that were more common. Congratulations on the success of your channel.
I am not a target customer for ULTRA. I'm old, disabled, have difficulty seeing and hearing. The exercise capabilities and the GPS are mostly of use only to help develop fantasies about what used to be. What is most important to me is the basics. Size matters. The insides, the health apps (I'm especially eager to try the sleep assistance, thank you.) and most other functions are not available on the ULTRA watches, but on Series 8 and others as everyone knows now. But the very simple fact of a large button can make a world of difference to someone whose hands shake. A brighter screen and a bigger case. Those are the reasons I bought the Apple Watch ULTRA.

😂 you’re doing it wrong. On a serious note, this is not for everyone, I know some people can’t sleep with even a bracelet on. For me it’s a game changer though
Saphire crystal. It’s very strong. My prior stainless steel ….. I OFTEN bashed it against concrete in falls and scrapes. Metal scratch to high heaven … glass? Spotless.

It was a series 5 in gold, don’t think it was aluminium. The casing actually held up pretty well, but the glass has a some micro scratches from before me using screen protectors .

My fav bands are the Tefeca bands. The ones that wrap n velcro. They are perfect on the ultra too

Thanks Lee! I do wonder if they would bring a Watch of this design, but without some of the Mount Everest climbing features. Like a "Pro" version, same size display and design, priced similar to the Series 8 watches. I think that would really sell a lot.
Do you use the sleep cycle watch alarm only for waking up? Or does the alarm also sound on the phone itself ?
Sleep Cycle is great. I bought it back when they used to be a one time payment app. Over 10 years ago. You needed to keep plugged phone near pillow for it to work. The company was kind enough to grandfather me to use their app without subscription when they moved to a subscription model.
That's amazing that they did that for you! I honestly think Apple should just buy them!
I was using the SleepWatch app. But I started using the recently Apple upgraded Sleep app that tracks the 4 Sleep stages. I saw a video comparing it to clinical devices that track the 4 stages, and Apple came out nearly exact to the clinical device’s data.
That weather app incident made me laugh!!

I have the action button set to start the stopwatch and I am constantly looking down to discover that the stopwatch has started itself.
But I am clumsy by nature (I killed three FitBits), and the Ultra looks and performs like brand-new after being whacked into doorjambs, getting dropped onto a terrazzo floor, and having a wrench skip off of it.
Some of the things you love, are a function of having an app or the watch OS version, not the hardware of the watch. The app Auto Sleep is better than Sleep Cycle IMO. I've used both.
Will give that app a go, am always looking for improvements in my sleep. I tend to agree with you on the OS/apps statement but for me, the display has brought some of the apps back to life for me and made them a little more useful
Love the video mate! This is the first time I’ve used my Apple Watch for sleep tracking and it’s been insightful. The nice thing with the Ultra to me that almost makes it worth the price alone is the battery. It’s simply amazing. The new design looks great, love the new straps, and the night mode face looks awesome. All in all, a fantastic piece of hardware! I have to say, in the last couple years, Apple’s hardware has been on point with the iPad Pro 12.9, Apple silicon Macs, and Apple Watch Ultra..

The iPad and iPhone are too, but it feels they could be even better. What are you using for sleep tracking, just the built in sensors or any specific apps?
I do agree on the iPhone for sure! And it would have been nice for Apple to have included a landscape camera on the iPads for better FaceTime and Zoom experience for sure. As far as sleep tracking I am using the built in sleep tracking!

it would be really neat if BedTime by Apple would take the sleepcycle into consideration.. I'm iffy on using any 3rd party apps, since I use my Apple Watch S8 in Airplane mode at all times to conserve battery..

I have been paddling, showering and going to the sauna several times a week for over 3 1/2 years now and I have series 4 watch. I think you’re pretty good with water resistance and chlorine in the swimming pool with the ultra.

I’ve been enjoying my Ultra. I’ve talked with it when i get calls. I have the Alpine loop. It announces the splits on my ride. My riding buddy heard it announce splits.

Thanks for this review. I think Apple’s sleep tracking feature is still very flawed, I will try Sleep Cycle. It looks it has much more functionality.
It’s a shame we have to use an app for this but sleep cycle is amazing. It works across devices too and logs all the stats to Health app. It will require a subscription for some of the features but for me they’re well worth it

I got mine and I finally feel like I can have it on while I sleep due to the extended battery life. It’s not exactly comfortable for me to wear at night, but I just want that data.
I hear you! The alpine loop I think is helping me with comfort aspect and some nights I do think about removing it but just that simple aspect of waking up feeling alert is worth any tradeoff for me. I was surprised to see the data after a couple of weeks but that trend just carried on and more importantly, how I feel is clearly better. Hope it works out for you too 🙏🏼

The Apple Watch Ultra is definitely a cool watch. I do recommend to some people. Its built like a tank and works extremely well. However, I highly suggest you try it on first and wear it for a couple of days to see if you like it or not. Personally, I had to return mine. I notice the biggest problem for me was its size. It was so massive on my wrist (I have 16cm wrists). It looked awesome but it became more of a distraction (even with the screen turned off). I couldn't help but constantly stare at it even time I twisted my wrist. Luckily I had a 7 day money back guarantee. So I got my money back. I hope this helps.
That’s a good perspective, thank you for sharing it. I did wonder what it would feel like for smaller wrists. Mine aren’t large but I could get away with it. Trying it on first is definitely a good idea
@@AlexGTech Yea I actually went with a series 8 cellular watch with nike white/platinum band instead. I also combine it with my iPad mini 6 to replace my iPhone. The mobility of the Apple swatch series 8 41mm with the productivity of the iPad mini 6 is an incredible combo imo. I hope this helps.
Yea it does, thanks. I like the idea of not having to carry the iPhone. Never tried the iPad mini but tend to agree, I use the Air 5 a lot more than the iPad Pro. Really don’t see the point on that one as it didn’t fulfil the promise of being our “next computer”. Hope they keep going with the Mini models
What is the biggest difference between the ultra and the larger version without ultra?
I have the 7 series today the biggest version with ss body and don’t want to upgrade if it isn’t very much changed.

HI Alex, I tried on the apple watch ultra and it wasn't so big. It looks actually better in person than online. I got the watch and decided that if I didn't like it I would take it back. The call quality is really great, I use my AirPods for calls and the sound is amazing. I have worn it to sleep and it's not heavy, neither does it get stuck on outfits. I use it along with my series 8.. The watch display and battery life are winners for me . I am glad I invested in this watch. The watch is great for workouts and for health and sleep tracking data.. I love my series 8 but I don't want the watch messed up in the gym and this watch is more durable.. Overall I am impressed. Thanks for the great videos. I always look forward to hearing your perspectives on tech products. Keep up the good work.

I tested this for a while in the Apple Store along with the 8. I found it to feel like an actual computer on the wrist if that makes sense. I have bigger wrists but it just felt bulky. I really loved it though and I loved the 8 so I bought an 8 as it’s more suited to my lifestyle. Can’t go wrong either way! Best advice is to try them on your wrist for a good 15 mins minimum in the Apple Store!
Same story tested and but the 8 cause 8 felt top the ultra don’t suit good.
Does the sleep cycle app work on the 8 series? if so, it’s the 8 for me. super small wrists!
I used it for a few weeks, I’m not running marathons or dive but I workout and run a lot. Thought that will be like a great upgrade. Ended up returning it and getting the watch 8. Very happy with my decision to return. The ultra is heavy, too big imho as a day to day watch and overpriced for the value. Function wise, the watch 8 has everything I needed and more in a smaller elegant pack. if you are not a diver or running in the desert I think it doesn’t worth the extra ~$400.

The Series 8 does cover a lot that this watch does, but I dont know... It certainly hit me different. I never bothered with the previous 3 models so this was a nice change for me. Definitely not for everyone though, as it can be big for some people.

I’m getting the ultra simply because it’s indestructible. I’m always taking my SE watch off so that I don’t chip it, again. I watched a video where the guy slammed the Ultra fifty times into rocks and metal posts, and dragged it behind a car up a gravel road. Never chipped the screen, but the Watch internals stopped working after the final abusive blow. It was hard to watch that video 😂
@@DbeeSapphire 😂. It is really a personal preference. I’m always asking myself the question if the value for money worth it. Is it really $400 more value? My answer was no but again it’s really my personal opinion. I love apple products.

The Alpine does get dirty after a couple of weeks, even if you're not doing much. But it's easy to clean
Well, I was a 6 series user for more than 2 years. I was thinking... I will get Series 8 45mm and was so convinced to do so. But I tried AW Ultra, put it on wrist and... I felt love from the frist try. ;) Apple Watch Ultra, at least for now, is something line iPhone X was. Something different, something new, something uniqe. So I bought one. I finally feel that I am having and wearing something different than most of the Apple Fans society. ;-)

Ha-You have the Action Button to work out, I have it set to run a Short Cut to open the MyQ Garage Door App, and open/close my garage doors.🤣

I got the series 8 45mm no cellular. $329 at Best Buy a few weeks ago . Just saw a Product Red series 45mm for $219 it was sold out the Blue was $189 sold out.
They need a city edition, let that version be the sport.

My only issue is every once in a while I need to restart the watch to get it to charge to 100%. And yes, I have all the power save modes off.
Good review of the watch, regarding the sleep cycle app you mention, is it free to use or do you pay monthly / annually for it?
There is a free version which is great, but I get the paid one for more data

Not happening here, not a single micro scratch 😎 I am super careful when taking it off/putting it on.
Of you weer the watch day and night when do you charge it?
Whenever I’m near a charger and need it. Because it lasts about 3 days, there’s plenty of opportunities. While I’m shower, or in a long work meeting where I’m not moving anyway
The size of the watch is the same as the Garmin Fenix which I had before, but I swear this thing is 1/3 the weight. I don't even notice it tbh.
I am glad you said that! It's extremely light and comfortable to wear. I am not Apple's number one fan right now but when it comes to the Watch Ultra, they really nailed it...
I love mine I work as a carpenter and took a hammer strike to the wrist and the watch is just fine the screen and titanium tanked the hit!
What size Alpine band are you using with your 19cm wrist?
I ordered the small one to start with (the medium/large had sold out at launch) but now got the medium one. The small was OK but a bit tight to put it on and quite annoying as it could end up scratching the casing as you take it out (the latch hitting the casing)

Thank you! Agree, the batter on this is great. Be aware, I forgot to mention this but phone calls really drain the battery. Nothing crazy but it would go from 100 to 0 in 2.5 hours if you tried 🤣 Really loving it though, the display is out of this world!

Main complaint is that there is no access or use for the temp sensor.
now that you mention it... I was looking forward to seeing that. Especially for sleep tracking, body temperature is a big factor in sleep too
Does the strap start to stink, with it being material, compared to the silicon straps?
No smell on mine and I've been using it a lot, getting it wet, etc...
Awesome once again….I am currently on Apple Watch 4 and considering upgrading. Am torn between Series 8 and Ultra..the price of the latter being $1500NZ dollars and series 8 around $800. Availability of both is a different story altogether as none are in stock anywhere. So am still on the fence..any suggestions??
Thank you! Wow, that’s a big difference! Almost half price… honestly from a features perspective there’s not a lot between them. By the watch ultra is just a different beast with that display and battery. It really depends on your preference. If you just want the basic tracking and don’t care about the diving stuff, display and battery then the Series 8 will be more than fine.
@@AlexGTech thanks so much for your recommendation. Hopefully will be able make a decision by the time stock are back in. Sadly there is no Apple store in New Zealand but few retailers have these on display . Ultra looks huge though but battery life is the good thing I hear about. Otherwise I just need a basic one.
@@AlexGTech Hi Alex.. finally I did settle for the Ultra .. must say it is amazing to own one.. the price was a bit much though as I ended up paying $1499NZ$. Thanks for your video though which made my purchase decision a bit easier
The main issue for me are the battery life.
Great video. Wind in mics is so hard to overcome. Especially when you are using the AirPods that can’t place mics around the entire device and choose one that can hear the device user. A solution to this is to wear some sort of device to break that wind away from the microphones. A hoody works, an ear warmer device that goes over your ears would work too. Anything that cuts down on the wind actively blowing across the plastics
Very true, whilst frustrated I understand it’s fairly tricky to solve for. I think eventually, there will be enough AI to remove the wind digitally. I like your hoodie suggestion!

Hi there, I just tried this. It doesn't happen straight away, it takes a few minutes (about 5 for me) after unlocking the watch. It needed an update first but the same happened after the update. The reverse is also true, when I went back to the Ultra, it took a few minutes after unlocking for it to start working, I was testing controlling my Homepod mini and my Focus mode from it. So it works well, but it's not immediate.

Does anyone notice the Ultra hurting their wrist? It causes discomfort periodically throughout the day. I wonder if the series 8 45 mm would be more comfortable.
Besides the action button, u can do all that with the 5. it has a bigger screen and battery. I am not buying it, because,I am no diver and everything works fine on mine. And I reload it when I watch a movie or show at night and put it on for bed.
The Apple Watch Ultra is fantastic. Incredible build quality. Feels like a marine grade tool made by a high end watchmaker!
Couldn't agree more! I've been quite critical of Apple recently, especially with the iPhone and iPad but this one... yeah they nailed it!

If your wrist is around 17/18cm or I'd say this is perfect actually. If it's smaller than that than I'd recommend trying it on first. I have very thin wrists (19cm) and it's just about perfect for me.

I have had 2 Garmins with sapphire glass - it's virtually unscratchable.
I’ve knocked it on door frames already and in the garage, so far not a single thing
I am so torn and its really over the price. I would be ok with a Series 8 but would prefer the Stainless / Sapphire version for the extra ruggedness. The problem is it ends up at basically the same price as the Ultra so makes no sense. Obviously the Ultra has a couple of extra features for the money. So it leaves me wondering whether I should wait until next year and see what that brings, go for a series 8 Aluminum to save the money or go all in on the Ultra.
Yes, at the danger of sounding like a salesman... the price difference is not that much when you consider the extra battery and display alone.
Watch other youtubers they have said after a month battery only last maximum two days sme as other apple watches don't waste your money
