Longannet Chimney Demolition - 9 December 2021

On 9 December 2021 a local landmark on the banks of the River Forth came down, skilfully done by a professional team. Impressive, moving too, for many in the area who had themselves or whose relatives had worked at this power station.

If you want to use this in an educational context, to work out the speed of sound in air, I was filming from a position across the estuary, at the Kincardine Bridge, 3600 metres away from the position of the chimney. You can get students to time the delay between the detonations and the sound arriving.
I filmed this on a Samsung Galaxy A21s, using an adaptor and monocular on a DIY mount, along with a Deity V-mic D3 pro microphone. The wide shots were filmed on an Osmo Action camera on a separate tripod.
