You forgot one part: the schools started heavily punishing the bullied for fighting back while letting the bullies walk free. I remember the year my school went "Zero Tolerance" for fighting. Before that, we had the bullies in check. They'd try to hurt one of us, we'd clock them, we both got an after school detention, and they'd not fuck with us again and move on to a new target. Then came Zero Tolerance while I was in high school, and the Bullies came back in force. They could trip us, shove us into lockers, anything you can think of to make our lives hell, and if the bullied fought back they'd get in trouble. And you know who started pushing for Zero Tolerance? The bullies' parents, many of whom were left wing.

Most people aren't aware of that fact about the schools punishing the bullies, as well as their victims.
Zero tolerance was always Zero Intelligence. The school administration didn't have to figure out which was the bully, just punish everyone involved... No thought required.
Imagine doing that in rape cases, where you punish the rapist AND his victim by sending them all to prison.
Yes, your rape cases would vanish, because the victims wouldn't want to go to prison for reporting the crime.

My parents fought back and fought hard against teachers and administrators when I got in trouble for standing up for myself. Sometimes it worked in our favor and sometimes it didn’t. If it didn’t, I took the suspension like a man because I knew I did the right thing.

I got kicked out of so many schools due to the zero tolerance crap and then i would get in trouble over things i didn't do because somebody else said i did it and because of my so called "student record" i wasn't trustworthy.
They didn't bother to check the damn cameras and see that i was right.

I saw a playthrough of Lost Judgment (the Yakuza spinoff, this one's about school bullying). The impression I got from that game is that it's like Japanese society itself discourages the bullied from fighting back. This leads to the suicide which kicked off the game's plot.
      EDIT: Maybe that's the difference.

The boxes those games come In have a little sticker in the bottom right that blatantly says by law....not for kids! You don't see budweiser getting blamed for drink drivers. If a game comes out where you play the father of a known mentally ill kid and the purpose of the game is to leave the gun safe unlocked maybe then I'll blame a videogame. Until then it's because their child is a demented little shit that either their parents made that way or didn't get them the right help. Watched one recently some kid was in a restaurant with his dad he left during the meal ran to his mother's house, drank cooking oil infront of her while spouting nonsense and then she just let him leave the house.....where upon he returned to the restaurant and unloaded into it. What parent would ever do that and if for argument sake she was afraid of him pick up the phone ffs

I remember this rant and it is still as relevant today as it was when it was on Sargon's channel. I teach martial arts and I can tell you that I've seen what he is talking about. I had a parent buy a trophy when their child didn't place at a tournament. I was absolutely dumbfounded. In that one act, that parent had pretty much decimated everything I had been trying to teach that child. With that kind of nonsense parenting going on, no wonder we have these mass shootings and endless debates about solutions that will do nothing to actually solve the problem. The problem usually goes back to parents and an unwillingness to allow kids to experience hardship and disappointment so that they can learn how to overcome them.

I was driving around the other day and passed by a public park. Everything was soft plastic or padded everywhere. The monkey bars were no higher than an eight-year-old could stand. The slide was this malleable red plastic and half as high as ours used to be. And there were sand lots around everything to cushion falls. In the last decade I've become aware of something. I don't think our kids are experiencing enough pain. Now when I say pain, I'm not talking about abuse, I'm talking about plain old bruises and bumps that our generation had as a matter of daily routine. There's a very good reason why lion cubs wrestle and fight and try to hurt one another.
When we were kids, the monkey bars were a network of metal rods, suspended eight-feet over concrete. The slide was a seven-foot drop down a metal plate that would sear the flesh from our legs in the summer if we didn't lift them up. We could (and did) get hurt on a regular basis playing with these things. Heck, it wasn't a complete day unless somebody left the playground bleeding a little. Young bodies heal quickly because they're expected to get banged up, especially in contact with the world around them.
What did we gain from this? A healthy regard for our own mortality, for one. We learned that metal and wood are both our friends and things to be respected. We learned that certain actions had consequences and that we had to learn how to take care of ourselves, evaluate dangers, and that there would be nobody to help us if we got hurt (I was one of those who went home with blood spurting from a finger and was greeted with, "Well wash it and put a band-aid on it.") This, in a subtle way, conditioned our behavior and tempered our ability to deal with stress later in our lives. I won't even go into fighting, Indian burns, or tickle-torture.
We used to play king-of-the-hill, where one kid stands on top of something and all the others bum rush him to knock him off. These days kids play Xbox or PS4. We used to ride bikes up in the middle of the street, jumping over sand hills and occasionally crashing in a heap of twisted metal and limbs, only to jump back up for more. Modern kids ride bikes to each others' houses to go inside and play Yu-Gi-Oh (assuming that's still a thing). We used to have rock fights; now kids have "cooperative learning games." I don’t begrudge kids their chosen fun, but is avoiding injury and frustration really that beneficial?
My family didn't protect me from pain, nothing was childproofed. I once got zapped playing with electricity and never put anything other than a plug into an outlet again. I got burned, crunched, cut, scalded, bruised, and once pulled a motorcycle down on myself whilst showing off. These things didn't give me any complexes or phobias, I dealt with them and pressed on with life.
But kids today don't experience pain at an early age like we did. Consequently, they don't develop the cognitive processes required to deal with stress when it arrives in other forms. By the time they're teenagers, with no means of handling their stress, you end up with gangs and school shootings. This needs reversing.
Fun fact: nobody ever talks about how many of these unhinged shooters come from single mother homes... unless it's described as "absent father" upbringing.

Esteban Guitierrez 100% agree. I have seen so many kids get spoiled like fucking royalty for being ungrateful brats because they know that they will never get punished for their actions which means they will never learn from their mistakes therefore giving them the illusion that they are always right and they are better than everyone else because according to the way they were raised they can do no wrong.

damn straight dude. I may have been a more observational child (IE I see someone do something dumb and get hurt because of it, therefor I dont want to do what they did in order to avoid a similar fate), but I still had my fair share of goofs. when I did goof, my parents (more mom than dad cause dad was (and still is) a legit PoS) would never baby me (obvious exceptions aside), instead she would simply ask "well why'd you do a dumb thing like that?" of course, any other parents that'd see her do this would try to scold her for being a bad mother.
Example: one time while visiting some old fort from the civil war I stuck my head in a cannon (not even as deep as my eyebrows, but still) and I got stuck. it hurt like hell and I began crying. meanwhile my mom stood there with crossed arms asking me, as i said, "well why'd you do do a dumb thing like that?" She would have helped me obviously, but she took time to make sure the lesson came across (plus _it is_ pretty hilarious, looking back). However, some old fart walked up and started riding her ass about how she was a terrible parent for not helping me and so on and so forth.
A similar incident happened when I accidentally snorted a nose-full of coffee grains at the store (for the record, I was just trying to enjoy the smell, not some odd drug experimentation. I was too young to _even know_ what drugs were).
*_Needless to say, i've never stuck my head in any more cannons nor have I snorted coffee since these events._*
In a more applicable example; I used to have a lust for speed. loved going fast; riding down hills in wagons, sticking my head out the window, etc. However, on one faithful day, I was taken to a go-cart track. _I was beside myself with excitement_ over getting behind the wheel of a vehicle for the first time. the moment we got the green I put petal to the metal. *literally.* and to be fair; I was pretty good at first. However, I soon missed a turn and slammed headlong into a wall. I would have been thrown at least a dozen feet if not for the seat-belt.
      and guess what
I lost that lust for speed, and became a pretty good driver in my adulthood (if I do say so myself).
so yes, Esteban, you are completely correct in your assessment, and I wholeheartedly agree.

A good book on the subject is The Violence Project. After studying hundreds of incidents and interviewing mass shooter's they came to this common profile
Past abuse/trauma -> deteriorated mental health -> traumatic event that makes them reach breaking point + rage and anger. Most mass shootings are suicides with the added element of wanting to get attention and hurt others before offing themselves or letting police do it.
My only gripe with the book is their cringey use of latinx and they don't waste opportunities to bash trump without mentioning similar examples for the other side.

This might be the best one of the year. I've been saying this for the last decade (I'm 37). The route cause for all of these school shooters, college rapists and so on is NOT mass media. It's parents coddling and enabling their kids because they hold a grudge from how tough they were raised. I'm Gen-X, so my generation are the older brothers and sisters of millennials. My generation was the last generation raised with the "body armor" creating mentality. And how did we react? We rebelled. We were defiant. We were destructive. And that in turn caused our parents to go the OPPOSITE direction with millennials. Rather then be tough and scrutinize you as they did us, they enabled you. And as result created this illusion of grandeur that is summarily executed once you leave college.
So in that regard, as a Gen-Xer, I can honestly say "I'm sorry". We failed you every bit as much as our parents did. If we hadn't broken them, they wouldn't have broken you. But we both can fix this rift by not making the same mistake. We HAVE to raise our kids better. To be tolerant, fair and realistic. This world has never been black and white, just varying shades of gray. Our children need to know this. That the world is not fair, and you only get from it what you put into it. Only then do we break the cycle and start producing a society that can be GREATER then eras past. Let's not fail another generation.

Good rant, and very true. That one word *"parenting"* is a word that's never brought up in the media. Funny, how something as simple as looking in the mirror is overlooked. It's much easier for most folk to point a finger and blame rock/metal, movies, and/or video games than it is to evaluate oneself. Moreover, how many people do we find being diagnosed with some sort of mental disorder these days? Quite a few. Bi-polars, manic depressed, anxiety disorders -- most of these illnesses are self or parent-created, and instead of working on ourselves, we turn into a medicated nation.

It’s nothing like a mass murderer because you have people in the video game trying to kill you, and a deadly threat to the character you have play. You play like a warrior in the Fallout Games, generally speaking, not a terrorist or a bully

  • @YunsAvatar
    @YunsAvatar 6 років тому +38

I'd like to posit another idea that has been on my mind for a while now about those who commit such mass crimes.
    They want attention.
Since Columbine the issue has only escalated. I think that is related to the way that from that point onward the media has gone into every single detail of these monsters and talked about them for months and years. Many of the killers felt like they weren't valued the way they needed to be and saw an easy (though evil) path to fame, killing people who didn't matter to them anyway. Several have had books about those first two freaks that inspired them.
Yes; parents (like I am) need to do more to teach our kids how to cope and function in more than a bubble existence that panders to them.
However, I think one of the things that society can do is to stop making celebrities of killers by broadcasting their lives and ideas for decades to come.
