Great performance of this Elvin Bishop hit. What folks don't know is that Elvin bishop on guitar and Leon Russel on piano created a lot of the early hit singles while working together in a sessions recording studio in L.A. Both were born in 1942 and started playing music as they were still learning to walk upright. Yet like many greats of their time, all their inspiration came from black soul, jazz, rhythm and blues. I first saw Rod Stewart at a dive in Indianapolis that got busted at 1:00 in the morning. I was written a ticket for under age visiting a dive. People in my age group lived the greatest lives ever in USA history. It all happened near the close of the great industrial era. I really feel for young people today. They never got to feel the freedom and society that we all had.
-my grandkids can't understand the music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. So many memories and people attached to each song. We really had the best cars and music.
Gotta love Rod, but there will never be another performance of this song like the live performance by Mickey Thomas and Elvin Bishop on The Midnight Special, back in the day. It was absolutely EPIC!
L-O-V-E. ROD STEWART! A true legend. Keep singing Rod! You kept me alive many times on the highways & byways of America when I was traveling for work. Got sleepy, just put one of your tapes & later your CDs in the player & rocked on down the highway! Hard to pick a fav but one I have always loved is 'Forever Young.' Now that I'm older, uh-hmmmm, I love it even more!!
Rod Stewart is one of the best singers of all time. With a very distinct voice like no one else. I wish he would be one of the coaches on the voice. He’s better than any of the current coaches on The Voice....
Yes, a tip of the hat to Mickey, one of the preeminent rock voices of my youth! I didn’t notice the backup singers for the pedal steel player. I took note initially for her playing, but then I saw WHO was coaxing the sounds out of the sexiest instrument on the stage…
There it is the genuine smile of Rod Stewart. You don't get to see it too often but when you see it you remember it 💋 as he has such a beautiful smile. I love the song as I love the memories that come with it!!
I’m in love since childhood this dude ruled our household I think he is smart sexy lyrical and compassionate I watched his exchange with Elton and I’m convinced he is the best human breathing
After all these years this song has waited for Rod to stop fooling around and fall in love before he could sing it with honesty and conviction that it deserves it kind of fits him better than anyone else who could sing it .
I love Rod Stewart I got into his music when I was 17 my favourite song is the nights the night it's about a girl loosing her virginity I was 17 when I lost mine that song means so much to me happy memories of first love
Estilo elegante charmoso, um lord inglês mr Road Stewart as meninas back voguel parecem flutuar no palco, conjunto musical tudo perfeita sintonia com ele fantastico show espero breve tudo isso volte ao normal
What a voice, Wow Rod Stewart is the only artist who make me have two versions of same each song , the original and rod's cover one, simply amazing! ♪♫
I love Mickey Thomas's version and I also love this version because it's Rod Stewart. To me there can be no other people that can sing it and do justice.
Wonderful song! Rod Stewart sings this so well! So talented, so brilliant, so awesome, so amazing! He is still as good looking as ever! So Awesome and So Amazing! Such a Talent and a Legend! Sir Rod Stewart Indeed!💕❤️
Sang this as my first karaoke to my family, friends and former lover in Maine. Still never got to see the video recording.... maybe that's a good thing lol
Sir Rod Stewart!!.... ❤🎼❤🎼❤🎼❤🎼❤🎼❤
All three versions are great... The original Elvin Bishop, T.G. Sheppard, and Rod Stewart's... This shows that the steel guitar belongs in all genres of music forever...
@CrimsonChampions DUDE I CATCH YOUR DRIFT. I FEEL HONORED AND VERY,VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE BEEN AROUND WHEN ALL THIS WONDERFUL MUSIC WAS RELEASED FRESH OUT OF THE OVEN. THE AMAZING 70'S WERE AN AWESOME DECADE. MISS 'EM A LOT.
To those curious about this Band with Rod. For whatever reason, this IS NOT any Band he has had. They obviously are Filling in for Video. This was a mid 1970's hit for Elvin Bishop. Like a retold story, he did this for today's generation so not fore-gotten. COOL....
Been listening to him for 50 years Definitely top 5 for me.

It was absolutely EPIC!
I told my girlfriend back in the 70s when this song came out that it was my song to her. Dam if Rod makes it New again for me. Great Job.
I have always loved rod stewart and his music,he is still great today
Nobody is mentioning that this song is originally by elvin Bishop/Mickey Thomas.....Rod does it better than anyone after Mickey Thomas.
@@tommytube62 Mickey Thomas is the hallmark voice of this song, Rod doesn’t even come close to the soul Mickey had.
Some of the most talented male voices... Rod is the man... Performing new or old songs, he is a very talented voice...
WOW! What more can i say. A true performer. My husband and i knew he was going to be a super star from day one.
And he has style!
True that
One of my all time favorite songs. Love to hear Rod sing it!!!!

This is one of those rare song that grabs aholds and never lets go. I will always love it. Thank you😍
Elvin Bishop's Mickey Thomas version can never be matched, but this is a good version. I think I am falling in love with his background singers.

Went to see Elvin Bishop at the Basement Sydney. He came out with this one....its his song originally. I didn't know that when I bought the ticket.

That beautiful lady playing the steel guitar was absolutely awesome

Are you back yet?
It's time, it's been a while, you need to listen to this again.
With Mickey Thomas of Jefferson Starship on lead vocals (Elvin Bishop's original)
I thought Elvin Bishop's version of this song was completely untouchable. Until now. This is really fantastic. Wow.
I love Mickey Thomas's version and I also love this version because it's Rod Stewart. To me there can be no other people that can sing it and do justice.
