- CQ finds a classic bluewater sailboat for sale this week in Portland, Maine. Coming from the Alden design house and Neil Hellesbergs drawing table, it's a really lovely example of a great ocean-going cruising sailboat that is perfect for the high seas.

We are Fuji owners. The Japanese craftsmanship cannot be overstated. The wood jointing is incredible and unlike anything we've seen. There are quite a number of people that have spent years sailing the world in their Alden Fuji. Definitely a safe and seaworthy world traveler you showed today, and if we didn't already own a Fuji, we'd be paying Gypsy a visit.
Great episode you guys! ⛵️
we love firsthand accounts thank you
Aren’t these two the best? Great information and witty banter while showing some amazing vessels. Thank you Captain Q & RanDay.
thanks very much!
@@YachtHunters You guys Rock... editing, music, the formula is gold.
"It’s a bidet". Great. Have to say this is one of the nicer ones you have shown. Definitely has the "Dear Santa" feeling. Thanks again Q and Ran-Day.
This is, without doubt, my favorite boat you have featured on the channel so far. She's well designed, well built, tidy, and the current owners have taken amazing care of her.
Were we closer to retirement and making our dream of sailing the world for 5 years a reality I would go up to see her and likely buy her this weekend. :)
Thank you, Captain and Ran-Day, for sharing her with us. I know whoever buys this vessel will have years of enjoyment.
Don't wait my good friend.....find the way....do it now. Later may not come ..
Go for it Martin! She's right up there close with the PB! What a beautiful home this would make.
Martin, I have one for sale if interested. It’s in S Tex, a Center Cockpit .
I can only pray this will still be for sale in a year when our savings are ready to buy a boat. What a find Q and Randay!!!
Hi Captain and Ran-day. I hope you keep up your rating system. It drives my wife absolutely insane. I appreciate what you guys are doing. Thanks!
Alden yachts are my #1 all time favourite!! On my #1 all time favourite sailing channel!!
Thank you for showing this Fuji Mk11 45', as well as my #1 favourite, the Alden Mk1 44'.
The Alden is a beauty… thanks for your kind words
When Captain Q was younger, I think he was the model for Johnny Quest. When I was a kid I looked forward to Wednesdays when Johnny Quest was on. Now I look forward to Thursdays... Love you guys.
All this beauty needs is some spit and polish and provisions for a cruise to anywhere in the world. Great find gentlemen. Somebody is going to get an amazing deal on this lovely boat.
Thank you Capitains for all your beautiful sailing video's.
I Agree with the giggles around the comment to the " bidet " at the bow sprit !! 🤣
🌞🌴⛵️
The boat know of these 2 guys is unparalleled. Had no idea the slotted foredeck doubled as a bidet. Genius design. Timestamp 12:50.
And a powerful one at that!!
I really never thought about Japanese boat building... but being meticulously craftsman with everything they do it makes sense..one of your best guys....
Thanks Rick
What a great yacht that would be for a couple with one child! Thanks again Captain Q and Ran-day! You are doing so well with the videos!
She is one nice boat. Thanks for always taking time to explain and provide lingo description. Truly an amazing channel !
Always a great video! But the fun, Comedy make each video a treat , thanks again for the trip !
Beautiful yacht! Your channel is worth waiting for every Thursday!
The interior of this one is pretty special.
Possibly the nicest looking woodwork of the boats you've shown us. And the layout looks very well thought out.
That's one beautiful old gypsy 😁so safe and solid looking. Being able to cover the cockpit is a great feature💯thank you guys although I was a day late 🙄stay safe and healthy👍🙏
Love how you educate and tour with great detail, yet fun way. You guys are unique you bring the reason behind the design alive. Wealth of knowledge…
Thank you joe!!
Magnificent vessel Captain, Her condition!!! So clean and tidy, full keel is ship like solid, her craftsmanship and the engine bay and interior lay out.. unbelievable how stunning this boat come across.Gypsy is just gorgeous.World point break seeker right there. I think this ketch is the nicest yacht for under 100k you guys have shown us. .. Seriously opened my eyes and imagination. Thank you Captain and Ran-day
Great episode. I like the hull segment. And going below particularly
In 96 episodes; I don't recall the Captain ever giving a 40 for any boat let alone 42! Personally, I'd give it another 2 points for the Freixenet in the refrigerator so 44. I'm not challenging the old Captain but I do think that he overlooked one important aspect. Cheers boys!
Sorry to pull back the curtain on the Wonderful Wizard of Q, but he usually provides the provisions. In one episode he apologize for forgetting, and in another the Freixenet is hidden beneath gift wrap. This host got bonus points for sneaking in Dinty in advance.
Aye he did matey. Arrrrgggggg
You do know he’s really old. 🙄🥴
@@iverburl There's no chance that's staged. Every good Captain has grub and grog, and Captain Q only reviews the highest end boats so it's not coincidence that they all have Dinty Moore and Freixenet. Randay told me so.😎
The owner should get all kinds of kudos for the quality of the maintenance he or she has done. Extraordinary.
Agreed… great stewardship 👍
Omg she is such a beautiful classic. Thanks Captain and Randay for another wonderful video ⛵️⛵️⛵️👍👍💕
Thanks Kathleen!!
Its a really nice boat!
But im going to say, i love listening to you describe and talk about boats. It feels so calming and i learn something new every episode but, its the love and enthusiasm that you ebb! It just feels like Christmas morning, a cup of good coffee, or warm hugs! Keep making shows and spreading the love and knowledge.
Ho Ho Ho. Thank you for your kind note
Newly inspired every week. Thanks guys!
Beautiful interior. Very livable and yes love the cross beams. Satin amber glow. Lots of Dinty stowage.
Love the stove. That quarter birth bedroom is luxury! "Very Sparkly" Loved this boat. Another wonderful installment from our best friends Captain Q and Ran-day!
Thanks Mr Wool
Love the history on the boats and their designers.
This one is another beauty. A diamond in the rough. A Yanmar engine to boot. She’s a bargain.
Thanks for sharing.
Fair winds.
You two are the best! Nice boat!!
Wow, what a fantastic boat! Very impressive. Very clever bidet design also.
It’s thorough!!
Great channel, I look forward to a new episode every Thursday. Capt’n Q is so knowledgeable. One recommendation, show a better side view of the vessel which gives us a nice profile, thanks.
That is one beautiful boat. Exquisite workmanship . Thanks
Our pleasure!
That's pretty amazing boys. I love it. Thank you. Oh, and I also like your pink pants.
Great piece 👏👌
Didn't know Alden designed the Fuji 45.
I didn't hear you mention the port side quarter berth at the companion way steps. Three dedicated sleeping areas and possibly some in the salon two heads great mechanical space wonderful fit and finish with all the features on the outside I think this is the dream boat now.
Thats one of the most elegant traditional monohulls ive ever seen on your show Capt. Beautiful style and detail with great practicality.😎🇬🇧🧙♂️
42 answer to life the universe and everything.... Hitchhikers guide to the Universe.😁
42 it is!
@@YachtHunters
Should have said Guide to the Galaxy.
Best yet at 45 yrs old!! Wow great boat Cap't!
Very nice review !! Thank you!
Couldn't stop staring on the Class40 (?) racer next to this beautiful old lady you presented. It got me thinking. One day you've got to share your own presentation based on mathematic values what constitute a good cruising vessel. John Holtrop had a nice model that seems dead with many new designs omitting comfort.
It looks like I could move my things on there tomorrow and head south for life. If only I won a $100k lottery. Thanks for a wonderful look at this Fuji 45, with a galley that would keep me cooking for years to come.
go for 150,000$ lottery you will need travelling cash to pay for marina fees and Mai Tais
@@YachtHunters there’s an idea for a new series: Captain Q mentors new sailor 😁😂 It’s a great dream, keeps me young. Think grab handles over the vee berths 😎
That boat was one of the best for me .Keep up the good work Captain Q .
Thank you Thomas
Really sweet Ketch!!!
What an amazing boat !!!
I’m in the UK and all the best boats are always on the other side of the pond 😌
You might have to swing by and sail one back!
Well built and good looking !!
I've yet been able to find a sailing yacht of any kind with genuine Japanese styling. Tatami room/ofuro shower/shoji screens and the classic bow design you see on just about every kind of modern Japanese boat (sailboats, trawlers, tugs etc)
Aloha 🤙
12:48 - Ha! Definitely a bidet if you're wearing a kilt! Nice Quip! Keep up the sass, Ran-day! :)
What a lovely thing!
The heads in that boat are groco model k. Have one in my boat. New they cost about $1,500, one of the most expensive manual heads available. The pumps are all bronze and last for decades.
a great data point on the type of owner this has been.... thanks for the comment!
Beautiful boat and good price. Who ever owns this boat really took care of it. Love your videos.
Thank you Edward
I think you should have an entire episode of Capt Q climbing ladders.
randay is dying to
An other very beautiful boat ! Thank you CQ and RD !
Classic lines, very well maintened, perahps one point to discuss, the chart table a little bit far from the cockpit.
Thank you both !!
Good point.l!
Methinks I am in love. The only thing I would change is the wheel and only to incorporate it into a larger stainless wheel. It's perfect and let's call it what it is, a mini Pirate Ship. All you need is Jack Sparrow attire and rum. Thank you Captain Q and Randay for making my day with this fine vessel tour.
Agreed!
45 footer should have a seperate shower stall.Personally I think any sailboat 32' or longer,in the hands of a clever designer can include a shower stall, the ease, convenience, and pleasure of having one after a long day or night cannot be overstated!
Fabulous boat. Looks like it would be a really comfortable live aboard.
i believe so as well with lots of privacy
Fabulous boat and a good price, for what she is. She will sell quickly.
I'm very impressed with all the history and mechanical information, I hope to by a sailboat one day
you can do it!! don't wait too long!! :):
I would love to see a show on a Contessa 32 someday but I have to say this Fuji/Alden 45 design and craftsmanship is the best example of a cruising yacht I have seen on your show that engine room was immaculate and the woodwork spectacular . If I was looking for a world cruiser and had family coming along this boat would be perfect but I would be sailing solo most likely so a smaller ship would be my choice .
cant argue that
Just like Captain Q …. a true classic 😎
thankyou
Beautiful boat inside and out with lots of character....
And I don't think we could color match your pants and that forklift any closer than that...lol
time to trade in the Jag...
Awesome boat! Have to say I'm a sucker for clipper bows, and ketch rigs.
So pretty!! 😍
What a pretty pretty boat. I love everything about Gypsy Wolf 🖤
agreed!!
This is the exact kind of boat that I'm saving my money for.
Fine taste!!
RanDay, look how easy it is to access those thruhulls in the galley!
This Fuji kind of reminds me of a Gozzard. Another beautiful boat. Nicely done, boys.
Thanks Kyle
12:34 Captain steps on a round line and causes him to stumble. Thank God he didn't go over the lifelines.
i do every day so far so good
Gents I don't recall seeing the nav station on this boat. If it was a nice as the rest of the boat maybe it could have received a couple more points. All in all a very nice apparently blue water boat. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Good catch! You sent me back to look. It is a stand-up station on the port side between the settee and aft cabin. You can catch a glimpse at 15:00 and again at 20:40. SeaDog is standing guard. It is too far from the cockpit, and stand-up does not make sense. Minus two? I would have designed it as in a number of other boats: Swap it and the refrigeration, and use the quarter berth for seating. You lose some drawers. Routing of coolant lines might be a slight issue.
Good catch… somehow it got clipped out during editing.
That impulse behind you looks pretty snazzy
nose bleed on her deck lol
12:45 in we hear the real reason BEHIND and where ever else bowsprits are a hit ... every nice ride this sailboat...Thanks Capt Q and Ran -Day....Rad-day curls up around sailboat motors like an old dog around a wood burning stove...
😂
On this channel. Top 5 for me. Handsome boat!
It’s thrrr at the aft end of the settee on the port side brief piece of it shows with sea dog backing up to it
It’s a god one and ther is also a stb qtr berth
CQ sat in it while Randay went into the engine room. We were just. Dazzled
Talk about a dream boat, now that's a boat I'd put up with having the little bit deeper draft and still head to the Bahamas...
other boat sellers take note - always extra points for having canned a la carte cuisine on board - the Cap'n appreciates a class act when he sees it
Beautiful boat to sail the world and live aboard.
Well said Beverly
Beautiful boat and you guys did a fantastic job as usual. Informative, thorough and entertaining content at its finest. I wonder how quickly I can sell my house and move aboard. 😉
👍👍 chop chop… no time to waste
My Flicka20 (just sold it) had lovely gold scroll work at both the bow and stern. My wife calls them the "Floopie Doops".
Floopie doops definitely works for us!
Great review on the Fuji 45.
I happen to own a Fuji 45 Center Cockpit that is currently for sale, if anyone is interested. Thanks Capt Q !
I originally considered buying one of those back in 1975 but it was just out of the budget of the time. I’ve seen two on the market recently one down in Chesapeake and I think one of the West Coast maybe. Actually I thought we were coming to see one of those when I got the word about this boat but I was super delighted to see that this was an Aft cockpit version We would love to do an episode on your boat as well but I think it’s probably out of our driving range but if it ever moved up to New England please let us know it’s a very cool boat that you have
ua-cam.com/video/PpRnBfssBr0/v-deo.html
I took a short video of My 45 CC, if you’d like to view. Tip of the hat to Capt Q and Ran Day!
Beautiful boat
Fantastic boat but the prices have gotten astronomical and there is no way I would ever purchase one until they come down about 25 to 30%
Great new camera angle on the Dinty reveal!
thanks to the owner who has been a fan and complimented our efforts with his addition of DM
Love this boat...One of the best you have shown for the price. I don't think it is the one I should learn sailing on. I think I should start with a Sunfish first.
Can’t go wrong learning on a sunfish!!
Thanks as always for allowing me to dream of my future boat. Anyone else get some weird audio volume glitches at the end of the video?
Yeh, but if you come here often, you'll know the lines by now.
See what I did there? ;)
Well looks like the sabar 34 is goin to become mine took her out yesterday new rigging new sails do well maintained over the years I'm going to out dome solar and she ready to cross the Atlantic
That was an amazing find.
we thought as much a lot o appreciates here
Awesome episode, Amazing value and adult size living spaces and storage. The engine alone would have been $40k. Amazing deal! "This might be my boat"...classic!
David, I have a Fuji 45 for sale if interested.
Thanks
A beautiful boat and well-worth the price!!! Thank you Captain Q and Ran-Day for this video!!!
Not sure if I missed something but was there a nav station below deck and electrical panels?
Just marvelous for the price though.
Yes the baby station is adjacent to the main settee
Very nice boat except for the teak deck. Great job guys.
My favorite type of boat 2 masted ketch and finally an engine room you can get into if needs be .the one thing you skipped was the nav. station .Still i was very impressed as i think you and RanDay were .
too smitten with the engine room to pay attention to the great quarter berth and nav station!! :)
@@YachtHunters I think you should have given it another 10 because of how well the engine room was laid out .It's a rare boat that has that much room to move around , that and how well the whole boat was laid out . you both looked like 2 kids in a candy store with money in there pockets 😃.Thanks again for finding a truly fine boat to show .A clean and simple layout inside and out .
We didn't get to hear "You know that Instagram isn't a place?"
oops... lol 🤣🤣🤣
I wish I could buy that boat! I liked it a lot!
Would like to hear more about Randay's "new" boat. Beautiful Fuji. Thanks.
He’s been working a lot to try to get his newer update episodes going
The Captain needs this 77 vintage seaworthy gem!
he does thank you for your astute observation
.. Cheers to you ..
Cheers Laurie
"giant bigness" is my new phrase!
:-)
Great!
There are thousands of Sailboats in Marinas in the San Francisco Bay Area. For the best views of San Francisco, most Sailors motor out to the the area East of the Golden Gate Bridge and West of Alcatraz Island (known as "The Slot"), sail North and South for a few hours and are home by evening and Boats are probably used one or two Saturdays or Sundays per month. In other words, they are rarely used and spend most of their time at the Dock.
its sad but truth be told, it would seem that despite the long California coast , destinations are limited Now Maine has 3000 miles of coastline and nice breeze floods the coast every day at noon paradise
Nice boat.
A well earned 42, dream boat.
Oh I wish I was ready to buy a boat! This might be my new favorite! Using the Captain Q measuring stick, I’d say the head clearance was around 6’4” or 6’5”? Are ketches difficult to single-hand (even with a couple family on board, I’d be single-handing)? Great episode, gentlemen!
Yes that’s about right on the headroom… ketches or yawls are not much different than a sloop rig. Raise the Mizzen and go… most tack without any handling. The only time to deal with them is if it starts to really blow… and even then they help balance out the helm against the Genoa job
I really like the boat but...that bell would have to go! It would be annoying under sail. Lol The other thing I noticed was there wasn't overhead hand grabs in the cabin. All said though, a really nice boat.
