"The trick is to get chaingunners killed"
Plutonia in a nutshell
The trick is to get chaingunners to kill 1/3rd of the enemies, then get 1/3rd of the enemies to kill the chaingunners , and then personally frag the last remaining 1/3rd monsters who are wounded.

LOL, that last Pain Elemental in Slayer is the one where Civvie said "no, #!*@ you!" and exited the level with 99% kills.

The Temple of Darkness has the longest standing record on UV fast using the original DOS executable on the Compet-N website. In fact it's the longest standing record it's that old. For reference the final time was two minutes faster than your final time. It took twenty years to be beaten! (still the vanilla record though)

Another awesome video. Those parts in the first level when you were in those narrow hallways with assloads of projectiles coming your way were particularly intense.

According to Doomwiki, there are 34 stim packs, 2 soulspheres, 65 heath bonuses and 1 megasphere on map 23. It doesn't list medikits, so I would assume no, there are none.
I wonder if that was a conscious decision.

Watching you playing reminds me some good old memories because I used to play with my brother and he passed away when I was twelve. Sorry to hear about your loss dude. On the other hand, it's an honor to know another fellow Doom player that started playing when they were young (I was one of them) when the majority of Doom players right now are in their late 30s and even 40s.
For the past few days I've been messing around with playing this, Hell Revealed II, normal Doom2 etc., just on Ultra-Violence.. and realized I suuuck compared to Doom-Master decino here. Really a lot tougher than he makes it look.
I cant even pass level 2 myself on ultra lol

Keep at it but remember that Decino's mouse + keyboard makes a world of difference in faster pace fights compared to pure keyboard. Lot of this is a mix of monster attack memorization and reflexes along with remembering what parts of the map are clear to advance or fall back to

Map 24 looks like a cross between Doom II's The Chasm and The Living End, but on steroids. One of my favorite maps from Plutonia.

@@josephunderwood1875 ...don't remind me of Post Mortem from Hell Revealed. The fact they deliberately designed that map to make it where you have to do it in one run (because you can't save otherwise it will crash the game due to the sheer amount of monsters) meant that the map designers wanted to be extra evil and sadistic about it!

Map 25 is a nightmare with fast monsters and pistol start.
Tons of hitscanners chipping at your health, no armor until halfway in and a lot of ammo control required. Every section is on its own doable, but when you chain them together your chances drop pretty quickly.
So in a way it is the quintessential Plutonia map.
I was curious how you'd handle Tombstone and it didn't disappoint! Such a hard level. I've enjoyed playing the levels before you upload your videos and then seeing how you handle the same fights I did

Map 21 and 23 are my favorite. 24 too.
You are absolutely right, map 25 doesn't look like tough but after you get ambushed and a** kicked you will think, how is this happened!, this didn't look that tough! why I'm dead!

Well Decino is known for his dry humor, but he also isn't fully wrong since Slayer is pretty much a well known reimagining of Circle of Death or the O of Destruction

What's your opinion of the music in map 21? I personally like the track but I don't think it particularly fits the map.
I think it fits. The original track is quite melodramatic, and the new one takes it up a notch.
I wonder if that map's name was a possible foreshadowing for the Doomguy's fate in the distant future.

Nice nice job here decino. I know you probably find it tedious to do, but I always loved Sunder, mostly for the levels architecture. It would be great to see you run through some of those maps but I guess you won't be doing it

I just played through Impossible Mission with multiplayer monsters enabled, and there is a room that I have no clue how you're supposed survive. It lives up to its name with the Multiplayer spawns.

I'm currently at Tombstone on my first proper run through Plutonia, and my lifelong abject loathing of chaingunners seems to have finally peaked. I ended up putting IDDQD on, going up and chainsawing all of the chaingunners and _only_ the chaingunners, and then I turned the game off for the day.
Fuck chaingunners.
You know what I actually prefer plutonia over TNT but mostly because of level design and more creative secrets placing! And because of the quick rythm not because of the ton of chaingunners and revenants all the way through!

I always loved Plutonia's map design. Despite the crazy amount of enemies these maps rarely really drag like they do in, say, Hell Revealed. It's bullshit, but it's well-balanced, quality bullshit.
Some later Plutonia levels do drag on a bit. MAP23 is a good example.

Im playing plutonia on ps4 UV + and they must have updated the impossible mission or something because im having a hell of a time with it, first of all as soon as the level starts you are surrounded by 4 chaingunners but that is not the hard part, when you fall down the pit where the baron hits the barrels to kill the chaingunners? Yeah now there are two cyber demons immediately in front and also SIX archviles in the walls that target you as soon as you land, i havent been able to get past it and im not even doing pistol start, would love to see you revisit this map cause i dont think it is possible now
That's because the console version UV+ also adds exclusive co-op enemies. It makes MAP22 nearly impossible to beat.
