- Let GunBlue490 show you how to easily and completely disassemble your 1911 grip frame, inspect each part, and put it back together again in minutes. Every part, its function, and positioning is shown in detail. Don't pay a gunsmith to do what is so easy, and keep your 1911 in top shape!
As a physics teacher for 37 years, I can say that you are the best 1911 teacher UA-cam has to offer. No outrageous introduction and right to the point without all the fluff. Great Job!
I’m 74 and have been to Viet Nam in 1968 I was a M60 gunner with 1911 45. But all Marines taught me was how to field strip one time. I was impressed with it and have alway wanted one but expensive prices stopped me but I’ve finally ordered Tisas tank commander. I really appreciate your teaching and you are the sole instructor I trust Thankyou so very much.
26 year old zoomer here. This is the best detailed video I could find on reassemble for the 1911. You also go into the "why" and not just how and it's great to have this knowledge passed down.
Not only is this the BEST breakdown 1911 lower frame video, but I really enjoyed how you explained each step in vivid detail and also explained what each part is.
This is what should be taught before buying your first 1911A1. Our parents - father - taught us how to take care of the car - change the oil, air filter, check the air in the tires, change flat tires, change spark plugs and more, now a days very few know how to do this. Thank you for a very informative video. Take care and stay well.
Because I had your video and step-by-step instructions, this was the first time I've been able to disassemble and reassemble my 1911 without having to run to my gunsmith friend with a Tupperware container of parts asking him to reassemble (I don't like wasting his time). I now understand how the sear, disconnector, spring and spring cover work. Excellent instruction! I shoot about 700 rounds per month with my 1911 and like to completely disassemble the firearm to clean once a month. I will be forever in your debt GunBlue490. Thank you!
Fantastic video. Clear, straightforward, and no extraneous fluff. Happy to have found this video.
I tore down my 1911 and 9 mm that I've had for over 30 years I have never taken the gun apart to this level! I cannot thank you enough sir for this video and giving me the confidence to be able to do this! Watching this video and being able to tear down a 1911 has truly made my day! You are indeed a master and I personally would like to thank you for making these videos for all of us. Sincerely Ron Brown
Undoubtedly the most detailed and instructional step by step video on the 1911 internal parts and their interactions. This probably helped me bypass about two years of trial and error, frustration, and lack of confidence. He is a great instructor !!
As if I were not already won over by your instructional videos, this is hands down the best 1911 breakdown video I've seen. Our Armed Forces need to contract with you for all their training/instructional films. It is time for me to binge watch every video you've produced regardless of the content or whether I own that firearm or not. Yeah, you're that good!
And thank you for a channel without obnoxious cutesy intros and/or headbanging music.
LOL, thank you.
Totally agree!
I agree with your assessment, however The Armed Forces has schools for armorers, where this style communication, skill, and experience are shared with soldiers that will conduct this work for the rest of us. Neither Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen nor we Marines are allowed to break weapons down to this detail, Armorers only. Job specific only.
I own several 1911's and have field stripped them thousands of times. Your video on the subject is the best most accurate method. Hands down it is the best out of all of them I've watched.
Thank you. God bless.
I've had and smithed my 1911s for years ,I knew I would learn something from you ! Never seen the hammer installed that way, hope I remember it next time
Really appreciate the fact that you are teaching others how to do this rather than trying to impress everyone with how quickly you can do it. So many others rush through the steps and obscure what they're doing so it's very difficult to know what was done. Thank you.
I am from Germany , owning a Les Baer TRS. You video is the best I ve seen so far. Took all fears to disassemble my gun away. Thanks for that!
You're quite welcome. My wife and I loved visiting Germany years ago!
I was a college sophmore many years ago and had the sear fail on a very old, well used government issued 1911 and it burned through a magazine by itself and very efficiently as I just held on .. an old Marine who worked at the College Police Dept. did a complete disassemably and reinstall/re-assembly in about 15 minutes and I was back to shooting paper at my slow and measured pace .. I was amazed at his ham-fisted and methodical approach .. of course he was less concerned with my instruction than just getting it all together .. but I'll never forget his proficiency at this task; however I must say your explanation filled in all the blanks. I don't know what became of that old Marine but your video made me flash back in time .. thank you for all the time you put into your videos .. I love shooting but also love knowing how things work ..
Sure! Today I decided to check your channel for this topic. No other video for disassembling a 1911 is this clear. My 2 hour job yesterday would have been done in a half hour. I put the original trigger and mainspring back in my Series 70 Colt.
One of the two BEST videos I’ve found on disassembling/re-Assembling a 1911! RIght to the point and stays there. Great Job Sir!
Nice job. Seen a few of those old 45's. I was in the 725 Ordinance small arm repair, 25th. Inf. Div. back in the 60's. Now days the VA is repairing me. Trigger finger with out feeling bad. Now I just watch. Your doing outstanding job. Young fellows learn all you can from this old timer. To many want to be gunsmiths on you tube causing lot of confusion.
This is the best 1911 disassembly video I have seen . Clear, concise, detailed instructions. Your instructions and confident manner reveal details in a manner that is very intuitive. Thank you.
Hello GunBlue490, a BIG thank you here. About a month ago I bought a guy's Ruger SR1911 Safe Queen, model 6700 from 2013, just like your pistol. Wow, was it stiff. After a couple-hundred rounds, and a few cleanings and some polishing, it seemed to loosen-up some. I had not completely disassembled it until I found your video - today I did. My disconnector was sticky and needed attention. You made disassembly and reassembly easy. Here is a tip I accidentally discovered on removing the safety: mine came off real easy when I had it positioned between safe and fire. Also, after more than a few frustrating minutes trying to line up the sear pin on reassembly, I used a toothpick. That worked. I am confident it will go bang, and now with the lower getting a good clean and polish, it seems to have more of a "broke-in" feel to it, and no sticking disconnector. Again, a big thank you!
Thank you. The quickest way to break in a new gun is to simply shoot it. Lubrication actually slows the burnishing process that polishes parts.
@@GunBlue490 Hi, for lubrication, I actually followed Ruger owner's manual recommendations (yes, I actually read it). I didn't over lube, but I did polish the stainless trigger (just the the metal that surrounds the magazine), as well as the head of the disconnector. The trigger had a gritty feel to it, and the disconnector would often stick down in its slot, unlike my SR1911 Commander Night Watchman that worked perfectly. Now, smooth trigger, no sticky disconnector, and racking is smoother. Truth is, the gun felt great when I was done. Again, thank you.
Six years after you made this video, it is still the best out there!
Thank you for carefully explaining each step. My 25 year old Kimber Poly is slightly different, but your explanations allowed me to figure it out.
the best tutorial for 1911 frame disassembly on youtube imo! thank you GunBlue490
Thank you i took it apart and could not get it back together but thanks to you shes back up and running. Yahweh bless.
First class instructor indeed.
I've watched this video several times since you posted it. You are a really great and thorough instructor.
Such a nice explanation in a soft voice, no haste no loud noise or any kind of disturbances I thoroughly enjoyed the video, 👍👏👏
I love ALL of GunBlue490"s Video's, Very informative, instructional and takes the time to explain the functions of the parts. ALL Hail The KING!!!!!
Fantastic movie. Did my Model 1911 USGI c. 1913 in about two hours, a complete round trip. Never disassembled one before. And those two hours included scrubbing and cleaning. And more scrubbing. Only thing that spooked me was finding the little tiny pin that holds the spur to the hammer laying on the kitchen table. Important thing - we got it done. Thanks.
I've seen enough of these take downs videos of the 1911, I'm thinking it's time to do this. Thanks for this Great video.
This is the best disassembly and reassembly I've seen on a 1911. You make it so easy. Thank you.
Makes one appreciate how much of a genius Browning was to come up with the design and to actually make it look easy to assemble and disassemble with a little practice.
Been a lot of years since I stripped my 1911s. You do an excellent job showing and instructing. Great video!!!
Best tear down vid I've seen for a 1911. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I not only was able to swap out the hammer on my Govt model following your instructions, but I am beginning to understand what I don't understand about the 1911 platform.
Thank you. Just used your video to help me upgrade my 1911.
I learned how to do this from a Korean war veteran. I did not watch a video, as there weren’t any in the early 70s. He showed this to me one time only and I had better been paying attention. To his amazement, I completed the breakdown correctly the first time. Just lucky I guess!
Thank you for the greatly detailed video. You seem to not let any detail of disassembly or reassembly slip by. You are a fine instructor. God bless you, sir.
Awesome instruction, took my 1911 nighthawk down per your instructions. Absolutely have no problem putting The gun back together thank you
Amazing video! This morning I discovered my 1911 hammer wouldn't come forward when I was trying to decock it completely empty. The trigger wasn't moving fully either. After watching this a couple times and pausing it as I went step by step, I tore the gun down to discover a piece of broken plastic in the sear/disconnector/trigger bow area that was gumming up the works! I have absolutely no idea how it got there. While it was torn down I cleaned it and carefully checked for any damage but didn't see any. I put it all back together and it's back into service. I did confirm the foreign object was plastic by a light nip with a pair of diagonal cutters after seeing injection molding marks on it. Many thanks for saving me the gunsmith bill!
Thanks for one of the best tutorial on taking down the lower grip frame of the 1911. I built mine many years ago and remember the first time fitting the safety and disconnect and sear parts as quite a challenge . I took it down a few times in past and it was always a challenge. It's been years since I've felt like doing it again but after your video I feel confident in going ahead and giving my gun a good thorough cleaning.
Best explanation I've seen yet.
Bravo sir ! This is the most complete, common sense, easy to understand explanation of a 1911 takedown I have ever seen ! THANK YOU👍
Excellent illustration and explanation
Just wanted to let you know that your video was what got me thru my Kimber 1911 tear down and cleaning and reassemble...it was spot on, a few little differences with the Kimber platform, but I got through it with your video, thank you sir for your upload video, couldn't have gotten through it as smoothly as I did without your video, thank you again, and great job! I greatly appreciate your assistance!
Holy crap!!! I cannot believe how long it took me to find this video. I’ve been looking for over 3 years for step by step instructions videos on this platform and I’m just stunned that I came across this one by accident. THANK YOU so so much for making this video. I’m gonna go work on my 1911 right now!😁
Great Video. This will be a big help when I take my 1911 down for the first time.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. You made the 1911 disassembly and reassembly look easy and hassle-free.
I just had a had time figuring out how to put everything back together. Thank you, once I calm down a bit I'm going to go back and fix this
Took me hours to reassemble my SR1911 after dissasembling it and I can't take this lesson for granted. Thank you so much for your detailed videos! God bless😇
Thank u for your detailed & patient instruction...u saved my bacon from making a bigger mess with my 1911...
Love your videos this is my favorite 1911 dis reassemble video I've seen
Best system for replacing the hammer and strut. Other methods have you sliding the mainspring housing up into place while trying to let gravity swing the strut into the dished housing spring.
Bless John Browning for the relative simplicity & ruggedness of the model 1911 design.
Thank you very much new 1911 owner and this video is a big big help!! Also whenever I purchase a new firearm I will search your channel for information on it...Thanks again
Absolutely invaluable information! I second, the other commenters...best breakdown video, I've seen, on the 1911.
Excellent instruction. I need to change the trigger on my 1911. I know I could get it all apart but was afraid I couldn't get it back together until watching this video.
Great video on take down and reassembly of the 1911. You have a gift from God and are using it teaching.
Excellent instruction. I know this is an older video, but I just acquired a series 80 Colt 1911and I’m anxious about breaking it down for cleaning. This is giving me a greater sense of confidence.
Thanks Sir. I replaced the trigger on 1 of my 1911's your instruction in the video was spot on. Now Im sort of a gunsmith.
I recently got a Colt Commander 1911 I wanted to learn to break it totally down. I started watching someone else's video. When it came time to put it back tougher the other video left out a critical step to get the pin thru to get your hammer back on ! That would be to pull your trigger to the rear ! Thank you for all your top notch videos ! I ll be learning a lot from your many videos ! God Bless you and have a nice day !
Thank you for the easy to follow video. Your explanations are the best on UA-cam.
Take care, Michael
I just purchased my first 1911 and can't thank you enough for this video! I'm actually surprised YT has allowed it, but grateful nonetheless!!
Great video as always!
People say, compared to modern autoloaders, that field stripping a 1911 is complicated. Sort of true. Newer guns *field strip* faster and result in less "loose parts"
But the 1911 can be much more easily fully disassembled than most modern handguns (except the ones with the "chassis system").
My father, a career army man, WW2 tank commander, and small arms drill instructor at Ft. Knox after the war until he retired, taught me how to completely disassemble the 1911 using no tools other than what the pistol itself provided. The slide stop, thumb safety pin and hammer strut can be used as "punches" to push out pins. (proper tools are better, of course, but it can be done without them)
Needless to say, the 1911 is one of my favorites. I own 6 of them and routinely remove the firing pins and extractors for cleaning and also detail strip them every few hundred rounds to clean all the internals.
I don't even own a 1911 but this was a joy to watch. I subscribed. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for the channel. I have many years of experience with firearms but still learn from your videos. The tips on how not to mar the finish when assembling or disassembling are really appreciated.
Wow, excellent information here! I've always thought a detail strip of a 1911 would be too much for my novice self. I also have the Ruger SR1911 and I think I'll give it a shot now with this video as a guide. Thanks for the tutorial! I subscribed!
Best detailed how to ive seen for my 1911 i was messing around and took to much apart before i realized i was in over my head and you came in clutch!
Well done sir. Easy to follow with great visuals and instructions. An excellent companion to the upper disassembly video. Saving these for future reference. Watching this 5 1/2 years after release. Good instruction is timeless.
Most importin THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! You make it so easy to understand. I just got my uncles Colt 1911 Commander Lightweight super.38 He was Marines compaction shooter back in late 1960's and early 70.s It was vary dirty . Thanks to you I had FUN learning how it works and how to clean it.
You are very good Thank you sir sincerely, Kurt
I feel compelled to comment even knowing that there's nothing I could say that I'm sure hasn't been said already. So I will say it again. Thank You for the absolute best detailed video explaining not only how to do this procedure, but the function of the parts involved. Also, Thank You for your service! A like and subscribe doesn't seem like near enough for this my friend, so I also thumbed up all your other well deserved comments. God Bless!
Thanks so much for taking the time to produce and upload these videos. I'm new to the 1911 and they have been extremely helpful.
Excellent video on how to disassemble a 1911 . Thanks for sharing your knowledge !!
After years of disassembling and reassembling 1911 pistols , I have been doing it wrong !😳 excellent instructional video, I know I am 5 years as this is 2022 but subbed anyway! Thank you
Best video on how to disassemble and reassemble a 1911 I've ever watch on YT. Nice job I gave it a thumb's up and book marked it for future reference. Already a subscriber from way back. Love all your videos.
Excellent demonstration. Paced just right with complete but without redundant information. Well done sir.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching your instructions. Thanks for sharing.
thank you very much Sir ! I have been looking for a disassembly and reassembly of the 1911 for a few weeks now...... it's easier than I thought ! and thank you for the tune up video
as the one I am using is new to me it's my father in laws. and I did not want to mess it up in any way it's a heirloom piece !!!! but I Must give Kudos to you for this easy to understand
how to do it video.... I believe I can completely disassemble clean it and reassemble it again without hurting it ! thank you very VERY MUCH !
Sir you are a wealth of knowledge and have helped me a great deal. Thank you
Thank you very much for your video and detailed explanation. I feel comfortable completely taking my 1911 apart for maintenance and cleaning (with your video playing of course). Again, thank you!
What can one say when they have just observed a Master. Thank you Sir and GOD BLESS You !!!
No kidding! Listening to this gentleman explain the 1911 was great. Just the right amount of helpful comments and discussion of the parts and their functions. Good camera work too! Thank you sir!
I love your videos and thank you for taking the time for making them. And again the hammer drop video is the best.
Great Video, I don't think I've ever learned more from 1 video than this one. Thanks for your Patience. very helpful.
Fantastic walk through, just the right speed for you me. Thanks
Great video! I saw the WC assembly/disassembly video and eventually ended up here. I have a used Kimber Custom II (I know I know) but I really wanted to give it a really good deep cleaning and inspection. I thought ya needed special tools, turns out I already had most of the tools from building my own AR15. She’s in a million pieces right now, awaiting some cleaning tools before I put her back together.
Looks easy enough. I have been apprehensive about taking apart my Les Baer and possible losing parts but this video put that to rest.
Thank you so much! Excellent teaching and demonstration!
Thank you so much for this video. This was my fist strip and assembly and you made it so easy to follow, nice and slow and good video. Once again thank you.
Thank you for making such a detailed video. I truly appreciate your patient and precise descriptions. I have been watching your videos for years and your insight is always helpful. This video helped me disassemble, clean, and reassemble my first 1911.
Thank you sir, this is a great video and helped me with my 1911.
Late to the game, but you have a great radio voice and great teaching method. You really should do more voiceovers.
This breakdown video is AWESOME 👏 BEST ON UA-cam
Thank you so much for this video. I was putting in a new part and the sear fell out. I had to watch your video to get my kimber going again.
This video was excellent! High resolution, well lit image makes this a keeper. Thanks for repeating some of the steps as a reminder of alignment of parts.
Thank you.
Thanks for your tutorial videos on the 1911 - Great videos and helped greatly in completely tearing down mine, and getting it back together - learned a lot.. Appreciate it!!
Those Ruger 1911’s look like they’re really nice guns.
This the best video on breaking down and reassembly I have ever seen!
Great video of the sear and the disconnect. Thank you.
Very good information sir. I purchased a relatively inexpensive imported 1911 that I will be using as a project gun. I am learning how to work on it and get comfortable with it before I purchase a more quality firearm. Thank you for the video.
I have been doing this procedure for forty years your method makes the process easier. Thanks
Thank you sir for sharing, best instructional video I have watched on the subject.
You did a great job with this, Thank You for your efforts.
