Curious if home labs are still a necessary component of "showing interest" these days when we have sites like tryhackme, hackthebox, etc that allow us to practice without the need for personal setups?

Louie, that is a good question. I think as long as you're able to express that on your resume or during the interview it might be enough.

Threat Hunting is active not passive. That is where canary tokens and honeypots come in.
It sounds a lot like offensive side.
