Permanent Tire Dressing? Review of DURA DRESSING Tire Coating

  • Dura Dressing Permanent Tire Shine from Dura Coating promises a Permanent Tire coating that lasts up to the life of the tire. I seen some negative reviews regarding the prep to apply this product. But with anything, prep is extremely important so I feel like holding that against this product is not fair. I wanted to test out the application process and see just how easy or difficult it is. How good does the final result look? Is it super shiny or does it give a nice satin new look to the tires? I will also be doing a longevity test for this in real world conditions so make sure to subscribe so you don't miss the updates... ENJOY!!!

I bought this kit many months ago and applied it to our two cars. The stuff has lasted all this time through daily driving and car washings. After time, some of the gloss disappears but the tires stay very black. Cleaning the tires as much as required is a pain but it's worth it. It's the only tire coating I will ever buy going forward.

I've been so continuously impressed with Tuff Shine that I now have my new tires delivered directly to me so that I can clean and treat them (both sides) prior to having the tires installed. You only have to do the prep once. After that, it's just soap and water to clean them. I might apply a refresher coat every 6-9 months.

Hey Josh, just FYI, the guy who owns DURA got into a big controversy last year when he sent his "people/employees" to attack and leave reviews on a "small" car detailer, just because the detailer mentioned that he is not a fan of the DURA products.

Was just going to comment that the owner is one of the most unprofessional and rude people I have ever dealt with, and if u look them up on the BBB u will see many examples of this in the comments, every single comment that had a complaint or criticism, the owner replies with insults profanities and belittling of those who had complaint or concerns. I had no idea... I bought the product specifically to review it based on the "permanent" claims. Thats very unfortunate. Ive seen a lot of stuff like that from youtube channels that have a big audience and saying negative things about a company they didnt like. This would sort of be the opposite of that and if it was just an honest review then the company definitely shouldn't take such offense and go after him. So far I like the product, but to be fair i definitely dont expect a "permanent" life span from this and as always, Once the test is done i will communicate my honest findings on the channel. I hope he doesnt come after me too haha

@@imjoshv it’s a possibility from what I’ve seen from him and his company, that is if u have any criticisms or anything negative to say. But it’s also possible he doesn’t. Either way I know u will give ur honest opinion and even if he does come after u in one way or another, it won’t change my opinion of u or him, and u seem like the type of person that won’t let it get to u anyway, maybe even politely tell him to get over himself, if u know what I’m getting at. Lol I won’t lie they do have some decent products, a buddy of mine that has been detailing for about two years or so has an account with them, I think. And the cars he does do end up looking really good when he is done. But I don’t support people or companies that are rude and unprofessional, no matter how good their products may be.

Josh you inspired something deeply explorative in me with your video talking about interior tools and brushes.
When you mentioned that makeup brushes work phenomenally for so many things, I started looking for good detailing brushes everywhere and I want to share with you a Nobel prize worthy discovery. But I don't have any Nobel prize worthy discoveries to share so I'll share a cool tip instead.
I think pound for pound, especially on anything with decent tread to work in and out of, the hands down best method to apply tire dressing is with a back scrubber brush. It holds the material well and has the perfect blend of stiffness to bend that allows you to really get the dressing applied cleanly quickly and evenly.
The best one I've found actually has the concave shape like your tire scrubbing brush but the bristles are in separate tight little groups. Best of all it has a little hand strap on the back (this is true of lots of them I've found) and once you get the hang of it you can get a dressing applied perfectly in a single pass, followed by a leveling pass with most tires.
It works like magic if you ever find yourself in the situation of needing to apply Megs endurance gel to really knobby tires.
If the dressing is more runny, I use one where the bristles are all together instead of separate but closely aligned groups of bristles.
I obviously can't send a link here but I'll hop on Instagram and send you a link for the one I really like.

I have used it and it has worked on my car and 2 other of my clients for a year and 3 months on daily driven vehicles. The tires were cleaned with their cleaner every month to 2 months. Further months I would use either a normal soap or their cleaner and it keeps on going. Very easy to use and apply and durable as I said in our Caribbean conditions where we have sun and summer all year long . Well, you know how it is here since you used to compete in surfing here too.
By the way, I never used any air to dry the coating and it dried up in less than 2 minutes.

Hey Josh! Another great video! I'm a firm believer in Dura Dressing, There are a lot of negative reviews out there on this stuff, but I've had nothing positive results from it. You have to prep the tires correctly or it will NOT work. The shine will dissipate over time, but the tire will have a deep rich black look to them. It was on my truck for a year (even through a Pittsburgh, PA winter season) before I had to refresh them. I out it on my daughters car too, and the results are the same! Clean, Clean, Clean. I made an 18" cardboard cutout to cover my wheels and sprayed the cleaner onto the brush and also onto the tire and scrubbed away. Yea, I normally don't follow directions. I hope you have the same results!! I clean mine with a PH neutral car soap and a soft bristle tire brush and don't have any browning and my white letters have never been dirty since I applied it.

Seems like you'd do this with a wheel coating because both can be cleaned with a mild cleaner, if the wheels get nasty and the chemicals drip down the tire it would most likely diminish those spots causing stripes.

Use a tar remover on the tires like tar x or stoners tar and sap remover you can do it with a microfiber towel and takes maybe 2-3 minutes per tire but be careful with uncoated wheels and on those tires where the brown won't come out with any tire cleaner it melts it off and I've tried so many tire and rubber cleaners and degreasers.

BUYER BEWARE!! Absolutely no way does the appearance of this product look like it did the day you applied it. For me, I scrubbed the new tires (BRAND NEW CAR) 5 times. Applied the coating and it looked good. Only 3 months later the shine has faded significantly! This is a car kept in the garage and driven only 800 miles on nice sunny days and the car was only washed 2 times!! These youtube videos suggest this will last for years with no maintenance. Don't believe it!! This is not the case and the company should make it clear. This is a very expensive product that is labor intensive and IMHO simply not worth the money and effort. There are plenty of products that do the same. BUYER BEWARE!!

Most people would be applying it to somewhat used tires. If it works on that it will work on new tires so this should be a good test! But yea I do need new tires soon

Permanent? I guess why don’t we just paint and clear coat our tires 🙄

If by "permanent" they mean 3 months, then you will not be disappointed.

Haha that’s what I want to test. Have you used it? 3 months what you got?

@@imjoshv Roughly yes, wasn't totally gone but definitely waned. Maybe my expectations were too high? You know what they say, if it sounds too good to be true....by no means a bad product though. PS love the videos! Very honest and unbiased. Missed out on your MJJC prime day sale. Sad face 😣

The prepping is ridiculous. Who has time for this. After a wash you want to apply tire shine and go not sit for 60 minutes afterwards
