His acting maybe yes but unfortunately Murray is just not that strong of a singer, technically speaking. Take the song Pity The Child for example. Murray does a great job conveying the emotions of the lyrics but the vocal performance itself is very weak and is a subpar performance at best. The song, Pity The Child, is a phenomenonal showcase for a powerful male tenor and in the right hands is a total showstopper. For some comparison listen to Colm Wilkinson or Adam Pascal sing Pity The Child and you'll see what I'm talking about. Both Wilkinson & Pascal give powerhouse performances and knock Murray's version here out of the park.
LYacky1 I think it’s just written too high for him. “Son” and “Who” are really difficult for a dude to belt. (I Really want to hear Colm sing it now, he’s a god.)
@@SoulShines4Music This was probably also after some touring, leaving his voice tired. If you listen you him on the concept album, that obviously wasn't auto tuned due to its age, he hits those notes very well.
The big misunderstanding with Chess is that most critics see the 'cold war' thing but the plot is about the psychological issues within the opponents (just see how the behavior of the 'American' is analysed in 'pity the child' ) Personally I completely identify myself with the Russian
What is it about Murray Head ... Compared to all the other Freddys I’ve seen, they all come across as too well adjusted. Murray’s performance makes me feel that there really isn’t an ounce of hope left for this man to ever be happy. He’s amazing!
This framework should have stayed when it came to Broadway. Whomever produced the Broadway version needs to never work again. Let the music speak for itself.
@@dylanwho209 No, she got sick and did´nt make it to the stage in the last bit. So Karin Glenmark, who was singing backup-vocals for all popchorusbits jumped right in, and started singing from the chorus as soon as she understood that Barbara Dickson was not there.
@@LilacSnowBun Very impressive move (pun). She really saved the day. Very dary and should be aknowledged. Her brother Anders beside her is very talented too. He sings
Not the best performance by Murray here, as he seems to be tired and overworked, and the vocal strain is evident. A shame when you have the pressure of so many concerts. He is however a great artist and it is a fantastic Movie/Musical worth watching.
This is still fucking historic - Karin Glenmark came in and saved the day and totally killed Endgame with him!
Four months later and I'm still blown away by Murray Head's performance here. Holy shit it's striking.

Abba's guitarist Lasse Wellander on the solo.
Dude was rockin' out on that guitar solo!
Clarinut He looked like he was having a blast.
Lasse Wellander- ABBAs sologuitar player.
This is a Masterpiece in composing and what a performance. So intense, absolutely beautiful! ❤

Totally agree, I felt it then and I still feel it now, he's so vulnerable
The only one who I think comes close is the Danish one.
Choked up by his performance. Vocally challenging, emotionally heavy, and he brings it with gusto. I am obsessed with this cast and musical journey
It's sad that their isn't a quality audio performance of him singing Talking Chess.

Wish they hadn't skipped so much -- wanted to see more of Murray Head's songs --
but this is still pretty incredible. Thanks again for uploading.
I just LOVE it and wished, i'd have seen it on stage!!!!
Best version ever!
Murray Head is just incredible here. Gut-wrenching. Although they didn't choose the most flattering picture of him for the video thumbnail.
I know him so we’ll still gives me chills…..
Fantastic!
Fuck !! he's amazing

What happened with Svetlana here?
Her Mic didn't turn on correctly

Severe stage fright, apparently.
I loved the svetlana who jumped in
