I would so love a full recording of this cast of Chess, my favourite musical. I was lucky enough to be in an amdram production in the 90s, with a perfect cast who had me in tears every night, andstruggle listening to the original-cast recording I have because it can't compete- partly due to the later very Russian-style harmonies being glaringly missing on some songs. Of those clips of performances on line, too many seem to be forgetting to FEEL the songs, not just show off how well they can sing. Give me a natural actor at the cost of an occasional slight musical imperfection any time, but these two seem to excel at both.
Great music - Brings back memories of my first great love in 1985. There was no „happy ending“ for our story then. But today an old man feels a warm glow of happy, hopeful feelings from back then. Music is indeed the perfect Time Machine.
[{You and I} [THE RUSSIAN] Knowing I want you Knowing I love you I can't explain why I remain Careless about you [FLORENCE] I've been a fool to allow Dreams to become Great expectations [THE RUSSIAN] How can I love you so much Yet make no move? [THE RUSSIAN/FLORENCE] I pray the days and nights In their endless weary procession Soon overwhelm My sad obsession You and I We've seen it all Chasing our hearts' desire But we go on pretending Stories like ours Have happy endings THE RUSSIAN] You could not give me More than you gave me Why should there be Something in me Still discontented [FLORENCE] I won't look back any more And if I do Just for a moment [THE RUSSIAN] I'll soon be happy to say I knew her well [THE RUSSIAN/FLORENCE] But if you hear today I'm no longer quite so devoted To this affair I've been misquoted You and I We've seen it all Chasing our hearts' desire But we go on pretending Stories like ours Have happy endings
Huge fan of both from the start! If this was the age of the Silver Screen, they would be the celebrity superstar pair you saw in all the magazines... Ingrid Bergman and Clark Gable...? ;)
It's interesting here that the teenage Sissel still preserved her plain unaltered self -no heavy make-up, hair still honey-colored -as it had been since she turned up on television six years previously. It's odd that she wasn't dismantled and reassembled by a committee according to some prescription for success.
I see that there are comments in which opinions are stated that this is the best version. I must disagree. Her voice, while lovely, portrays an innocence that the character should not have. The world-weariness of the character does not shine through here, and her voice does get overshadowed by his from time to time.
@eternal footman Tommy Körberg’s best duet partner in this song is Helen Sjöholm. Both are unmatched in the performance of this work. Nothing against Sissel, my friend; she is just not the vocal match for the great Tommy Körberg that Sjöholm is.
My favorite performance of this, mainly because it's not as over the top as others are. They're so sincere and it's beautiful.
This is undoubtedly the best performance of this song for me. A magnificent duet of two wonderful artists!
She is stunningly beautiful.
And she managed to have non-horrifying 80s hair. 🥇🌷🥰
@@LilacSnowBun The 90s weren't as kind to her hair lol
30 years ago- still amazing, two great singers
great harmony and well matched power...stunning
Tommy is amazing❤❤❤
This a magnificate performance for both artist.
Indeed. Perfection.

Lovely comment.
I have lovef Sissel's music since about 2002 after I saw her do a concert on PBS
I think, after listening to other versions of this song, this is my most favourite ❤️

[{You and I}
[THE RUSSIAN]
Knowing I want you
Knowing I love you
I can't explain why I remain
Careless about you
[FLORENCE]
I've been a fool to allow
Dreams to become
Great expectations
[THE RUSSIAN]
How can I love you so much
Yet make no move?
[THE RUSSIAN/FLORENCE]
I pray the days and nights
In their endless weary procession
Soon overwhelm
My sad obsession
You and I
We've seen it all
Chasing our hearts' desire
But we go on pretending
Stories like ours
Have happy endings THE RUSSIAN]
You could not give me
More than you gave me
Why should there be
Something in me
Still discontented
[FLORENCE]
I won't look back any more
And if I do
Just for a moment
[THE RUSSIAN]
I'll soon be happy to say
I knew her well
[THE RUSSIAN/FLORENCE]
But if you hear today
I'm no longer quite so devoted
To this affair
I've been misquoted
You and I
We've seen it all
Chasing our hearts' desire
But we go on pretending
Stories like ours
Have happy endings
Wow, fortfarande! Vilka röster ❤
Un grand merci pour ce cadeau

I suspect the 1989 date here. I think Siss might be mid 20s here at the latest. She is good at the theatrics and in keeping with her character part.
Smukke, skønne toner på mors dag.
❤️
I like the look of Tommy. I bet he's a great guy. He reminds me of a tough little Scotsman.
She was only 19 at that time
Check out Sissel performing "You and I" with Göran Fristorp in 1986: ua-cam.com/video/IO4osqoUYAk/v-deo.html
Sissel was twenty years younger when she sang next to Tommy Körberg. Her voice matched his experienced voice.
I see that there are comments in which opinions are stated that this is the best version. I must disagree. Her voice, while lovely, portrays an innocence that the character should not have. The world-weariness of the character does not shine through here, and her voice does get overshadowed by his from time to time.
I understand what you mean but I always felt that by this point she had given up because she knew no matter what she was the real loser.
Smukt ❤️❤️😇😂😇🇩🇰
Back here for the 100th time hehe eller nåt
What year would this clip have been telecast? (She looks about 20 years of age here)
1989
Sissel at 20 years of age in this performance.
Natural look. That's what i love
was this a full chess concert? if so, are there any other recordings out there from this performance?
Only this song from 'Chess' in this concert, which also featured songs from 'West Side Story' and 'The Sound of Music'.
@@sisselfan cool, thank you for the speedy reply!
This is put under the label"Christian music". It is heavenly, but has nothing to do with Christianity.
Who dares to say now that Björn and Benny from ABBA made "bad" music??????
Sissel is much better as Florence than as Svetlana.
I just did not like the boy kissing Sissel...
I like another duet from Chess better; "I Know Him So Well" with Judy Khune.
Helen sjöholm is better ;)
Wait! What? Who?
Sissel is great but I agree, theres one version were they sing in swedish together with a symphony orchestre. Just incredible match of voices.
Does nothing for me,More of Sissel and less of him .
Ah…the opposite for me …😉

@eternal footman It takes one to know one,So much for freedom of expression or Speech.
