Why not require the higher paid actors to pay into the union health insurance in order to provide coverage for the 86,000 non-working or very-little-working actors. The more you make; the more you have to contribute.

Great questiion. This is one of the issues. The producers pay a percentage of everyones wage into the health plan, BUT when this percentage reaches a certain dollar amount then it is capped. Sag-Aftra want to raise these caps to add more to the health plan. They hav'nt been raised for many years.

The intent is to starve them into compliance with a bad contract. These are the people that are REQUIRED to make the money that these companies control. They have it the wrong way around, and I stand with the unions to get what they are DUE for their HARD WORK. I've done day work on a shoot, and it was LONG hours and some of the hardest work I've done in my life.

The studios’ strike chief negotiator told the WGA they are not willing to negotiate on success-based residuals
This is after almost 100 days of writers, & also actors, on the picket lines clearly explaining the importance of residual changes

"Final Destination 6 is on the way any minute! As soon as negotiations resume between the studios and the unions, we'll be able to start filming this movie. It's just awesome as a fan kind of creating something that is now part of pop culture. Couldn't have asked for more (...) I don't want to say too much, but frankly, it will be worth the wait. "

The WGA reportedly indicated that even if they get a deal that they would plan to continue striking in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA until they get a fair deal.

The WGA kept strong on proposals for minimum TV staffing levels and minimum weeks of employment during Friday’s meeting. The studios refused to compromise.
Both sides are expected to communicate again in the coming days.

This is also why we need to have FREE Healthcare (included in tax money we already pay). Insurance is too much of a scam. So is COBRA. In Canada, actors can just retire/go to the Dr. It's not like here. All actors here have to have other jobs. FYI, if u r a SAG actor w/ speaking roles, u must earn 26k. If u r a background actor (still really hard to get) u need 100 days on film sets to have healthcare. Also speaking roles pay less than $900 per day (which u share and pay taxes on). Bkgrd actors/stand-in/photodoubles get $150-300 per day+ overtimes/pay bumps. U still have to beat out 50-1000 SAG actors for background roles.

You know as I ponder this strike I realize that AI types of performers do not appeal to me. I do not animee because I prefer live action performers.
So, actual human beings interpreting roles and/or performing can never be replaced with one exception. Game show hosts- but not contestants - can be replaced with BOTS. Good grief those hosts talk too much ie the host of Masterminds🤯
And, someone’s likeness should not be used unless the model is compensated and they receive ongoing residuals.
I guess I now support the strike by both unions and do so by not patronizing sponsors of repeated programs.

Lmao so shows you how making in Hollywood anit easy because we got actors making less 20k a year with no insurance but don’t want to work at a regular job that pays 30k with insurance
