I'm 50+. I've been an IT guy for 20 of those years and a gamer for 30+. Your take on things is really what the world needs. I just started following your main channel a week ago (sorry) and I have to say, it's timeless; meaning you could have uploaded something that's 3 years old or whatever, but the opinions are still relevant. This showed up in my feed and it was nice to get to know you a little nit more. So thanks for that.
You're honest and wholesome and I appreciate that. In some ways, I admire younger folks like yourself who have an opportunity to express and share like they do today. I'm a trader. I've won and lost it all many times and this too has led me to be more practical and humble with what I have. I want to finish and win the game, like anyone else but I also know that excess is not success.
I wish I knew at 30 what I know now. You're a very fortunate man to have the introspect that you do now. Contentedness is happiness. We all get there when we get there. I'm happy for you and proud. Guys like you, restore my faith in humanity. I love your honesty, appreciate your frustration and just generally respect and admire you.
I really hope your future bodes well, you seem to have that under control and I wish you all the best, Zack. 🙏🙌🤝

Such a breath air to see this video. 58 year old immigrant here who've worked for same company for 32 years and going. Even now, most of the furniture in my house is second hand and there are days when I eat simple grains, like rice, corn, oatmeal and beans. I travel often for work so if my house was burglarized or even completely destroyed in a fire while I was gone, it wouldn't even matter. With this mindset, I was able to raise 4 kids and have them all attend university with great futures ahead of them. Having a sizeable 401K along with a pension, i could retire today, but that would mean I'm playing computer games for 15 hours a day which is what I do when im off work on vacation. The peace of mind of not worrying about losing all of your worldly possessions and not racing others in the materialistic rat race is probably the most valuable thing a person can possess. Literally you walk around knowing you can buy virtually anything you see and go to any high end restaurants without even looking at the bill gives you a confidence no possessions can give you. This may explain why I find Asmongold's videos so relatable and entertaining.

He sounds like a solid dude.
When you start to follow him more and learn his personality, he really is a solid dude. But just like any human beings, he has opinions that are both good AND bad.
From what I saw, he owns up to his fuck ups when he shits the bed and will allow himself to grow further past his own prejudice, I think him finally playing FF14 and ACTUALLY enjoying it since he went in with an open mind pretty much speaks volume of the type of person he is, you just can't fake this type of stuff up without it sticking out like a sore thumb.
Overall, A decent dude who's not affraid to speak his mind up and, just like everybody else, make mistakes. The difference here is the fact that he OWNS UP to them instead of letting his personal pride get in the way.
He is. Very real guy who speaks honestly
If only more people used their intelligence like Asmon. The world would be so different😂
The thing about him that I like is that you can agree and disagree with him and he won’t let that change his opinions and mindset. Now that might sound dumb but think about it. These days people’s opinions change as often as asmons chat spamming KEKW

I know this is an older video, but its a very important message to be spreading. One of the most transformative experiences of my life was learning how to "scale it down". My issue wasn't really materialism, but in hobbies. I have a wide variety of interests, and had a penchant for doing it all. These were all things that I cared deeply for, but due to the immensity of hobbies I was trying to juggle, I never had the proper time to do any of them. I would see all of these "in progress" hobbies around my house and all they did was stress me out. I hated that I didn't have time for them, and when I finally got around to working on them, I hated myself even more for not making sufficient progress (due to not investing the proper time with them). It was a major source of depression in my life and I would find myself sitting and doing nothing, while staring at 10 different things I could be doing (and wanted to). It was like being in limbo in my own life.
I finally had to sit down with myself and examine all of these things I was trying to do, and ask how they were (or weren't in this case) truly serving me. It was hard to give up and let go of things that I truly cared for, but once I ripped the band-aid off and found a level of happiness ten-fold what I had by being able to invest myself into the few things I loved the most, I never looked back.
This topic is applicable to many facets of life, and reflection is an absolute must when attempting to extract as much happiness out of this already short life we have. I hope you're still finding the the same level of happiness in life that you were at the time of recording. 👍
I have known you through your streams in the last few years and I instantly saw you were just yourself and didn't need to prove nothing to anyone. Today I came across this video and everything you spoke about just sat well with me as I shook my head up and down in agreement to your thinking. I have almost the same views you mentioned but what really brought me a smile, was the reminder of my handsome amazing son who is in heaven. He definitely had your same philosophy of life and that was to live life in your own happy way and didn't care about material things. He noticed right away that we live in a material world, and he would always simplify things to me by telling me to ask myself if I needed the things I just bought, wanted to buy or get rid of what I already owned. So much of you resonates with my son and since his passing, a lot of how he saw this world is the way I see it now. I now try to live my life way less free of hassles and stress. I was already not about material possessions, so I have really toned down and excluded lots of things as I know it's just temporary stuff here. I could go deep into more details, but I will just leave it here and tell you thank you for just being yourself. I enjoy your streams.

I'm on the same wavelength in a way. I spent years living pay check to pay check feeling frustrated about not having enough money. I have now doubled my wage and brought down my outgoings. Paid off loads, car finance etc even walked away from having the latest phone on contract to having a sim card and a 2 year old android (one plus 8). Ultimately I don't feel any happier but the worries are gone if something goes wrong. I just want a stressful free quiet life with a few laughs along the way but being 40yo now unfortunately that doesn't happen. All you can do is be patient work towards your goal and stick to it. Everyone is different though so you can't apply the same advice to everyone. Just find a happy medium and hold onto it. Enjoy the small things. The things that make you laugh or cry. I'm still driving a 16 year old ford focus btw. It never lets me down so why change it right? Great video. It really made me think.
Brother, I watched some of your videos and streams, and never realised u have such a great mindset. And it really resonates with me. Because I am too from a wealthier family and also dress like a normal guy. I dont really show of the wealth. I am actually a bit insecure about that, ppl dont like rich people, they think they have it easier, they look at you with despect and because I know that, I try to hide it, it never did me any good - to let ppl know around me that I am from a rich family. And I kind of felt alone, didnt know there were more ppl like that. I just try to get my life together in other ways, than just getting money, bcs I have a lot of years being depressed behind me, having ptsd and adhd too. Getting medicated and therapy and starting to do things that make you happy, instead of what other people expect of you. Trying to build a life that makes you happy, gives you purpose. Money cant buy you happines, and most ppl dont realise that, because they never got there.

This has really set a perspective, and has resonated with me. For most of my life all I wanted was a way to show people I was worth something. the older I grow the more it starts to lose it's hold that, that's something that matters anymore. I've lost my mother and father both before the age of 14 and life has been a major struggle. keeping jobs has been impossible because depression makes me stop trying after a while. I still don't know exactly what I want to do in life and I just hit 28. I thought I wanted to make music, but the more that time lingers, the less I pick up a guitar and the less it matters. I am hoping to learn coding, and maybe find some type of solace in that. I'm a fan of games like WoW, but I am absolutely trash at it. It would be pretty awesome to learn to code a game like that in some shape or form. I digress. Over the last 15 years the lack of things I don't have, have made me lose a person I once was. And attempt masquerading myself in such trivial things, striving only for an image. And to hear someone like yourself, who could probably have it all 10 times over, would rather just not and the explanations following, says alot about your character. Truth, I hardly know of you. I know, you're a Warcraft Streamer, that's about it. Maybe something about a messy room? Idk. lol. Congratulations on figuring out at such a young age what it took me decades to figure out. Most people live their whole lives trying to make other people happy and end up being miserable. Once you find out what it takes for you to be happy, and you work toward that, then you can be happy, and others will either accept you for that or they won't. It doesn't matter because you will be happy. I am 61 years old, a computer gamer who lives a modest life and drives a 10-year-old Mustang convertible, not a fancy GT. I like to wear Hawaiian shirts and listen to north European metal music. I don't fit into the box that other people think I should as a senior citizen. And I am ok with that. Most people don't like me for it, but the people that do, generally find I am very likable once you get past my weird geekiness. Zach, always be true to yourself and you will remain happy.

I appreciate you! I've finally arrived in this mindset over the past few years, and it took me through a lot of rough roads. I don't have much, and have lost a lot in the process over the years. I have amazing children and a few great people that care about me, yet I realize nothing I buy or want even comes remotely close to that. That acceptance we all strive for, it's almost like a goal we never reach. It's sad most of us change who we are and strive for what others have, when all we need was right in front of us the whole time. You sharing this helped me a lot. Thank you Asmon.
i live in a very similar mentality. i don't care about buying nice & expensive things even tho i could, i'd much rather help friends & family members in dire needs. i gave my brother 40k last yr to start a business, no interest rates bs, just pure out of love. even having kids is off the table, im too selfish about my time & freedom, no shame in that. all my friends with kids looks 3x older than me & are always complaining about life, that confirms i made the right choices. reaching financial security is my only true earthly desire & i completed that quest, life is great everyday.
“Buy things that make you happy but make sure buying things doesn’t make you happy” most underrated statement right there

Matt D big true
Peace of mind is really one of the most important things to me too, and you're right about the fact that things own you often more than you own them, if you're not careful.
Here's something I have to say. (sorry for the long read but I took a deep dive)
I value your points very much so because I see a lot of myself in your beliefs.
But;
Not buying expensive things because you are worried about them getting damaged or broken etc. , is an issue that you should get over, you make enough to not worry.
Enjoy things you earn, reward yourself and don't look back. 3 days after buying my car i was in a $44,000 accident that insurance covered repairs on. I was smiling the same day. Knowing that its just a little hiccup, a little pause in my enjoyment, maybe... just maybe... a sign from above to sit back and appreciate what I earned.
I own an expensive car myself, but don't post it on socials and only a select few even know i own it. But I am a car fanatic. I live and breathe cars. It makes me happy.
I enjoy to drive it. and wish I could do it on a private track where no one can see me ever. I hate the profiling that goes along with expensive cars. its the main reason I don't ever want people to see it or even know I have it because I don't want the mentality of the anti-self-rewarding mindset to ruin what I worked so hard to achieve for myself.
I think you should re-evaluate some beliefs/ thoughts, and I use the word "some" with care. because you are an amazing human Zack, the world would be a better place with more Zacks.
However you have kind of created a persona or a profile or an image that you are feeling as obligated to stick to as someone with money constantly buying those high end suits or watches or cars. It can actually be very unhealthy and pose a risk to shortening your life that you say you are so happy living. You speak about moving out, with a girl potentially. Caring for your health, and physical appearance will aid in achieving those goals (IE semi decent clothes, hygiene equipment, a clean house, healthy food... all of which require spending more money then you do now but would not classified as "being materialistic" ). The care you provide your mother is amazing and warm hearted but you know you have the capability to provide for your mothers care in much better ways that will prolong both your lives and free time to do more of the things you love IE spending time with her, streaming, making videos, editing etc.
You drive a 2001 mustang so to some extent you have a love for a cars too. It may be deep in there, but its there. Otherwise you would drive a 1999 corolla. Yes it may only be a couple thousand dollar mustang but there's spirit in that 2001 mustang that someone that appreciates a fun car would see and love (as you said you like it). So if you spent some money on that line of fun it would open the doors for you to enjoy more whether its a newer mustang or a highly modified classic, or even your 2001 with some secret sauce under the hood to put those Lambos to shame when they try to stunt on you. My point is there's ways to spend money that you have so fairly earned to better your life but not to change your life or alter the things you like to do. You can just like to do the things you do even more with the aid of some material goods.
You talk about space and worrying about where to put stuff in this video 4-5 times. with a bigger house that wouldn't be a concern. And by the sounds of it your main argument to why not is to not have to worry about where to put things. Car enthusiasts (not materialistic weirdos with Lamborghinis I'm talking about people with class... haha) get 5 car garages and a 1 bedroom house because that's their priority. Some people get a 12 watch - watch box, and some people buy expansions to their storage in diablo 4. You have no compromise for a material good online why is that anymore justified as "good" then a material good offline?
Having things that make you happy vs doing things that make you happy?
How about doing things that make you happy with things that make that joy even easier/better. IE a person that loves photography has a $5000 camera. A person that loves gaming has a 4090ti, a person that loves cars has a expensive car, a watch collector that collects for himself and only himself may have a $100,000 watch.
Once hobbies/passions become hidden joys there is no shame in investing in that. I 100% agree with your problem with showoff mentality. Its disgusting. However investing in yourself should warrant zero shame.
You love life I assume, as you love games, and your mother.
I'm not here to tell you where or how to spend your money but I think you should:
Invest in those things, better your health and extend your life to continue living it happily.
-Proper nutrition, general/oral health, diet, exercise. (A trainer, meal plans, vitamins, nutritionist, othro) All money but not materialistic. This will also aid in finding "the one"
-house/space/stream room. All money but not materialistic. All three would enhance the things you love to do.
Anyways I value you and think you are an amazing person sometimes I wish I seen you invest a little more into yourself to better and prolong your life.
Regards,
A Caring Viewer.

wow man what a video. i’m actually glad that i have only just come across this video rather than 3 years ago when it was uploaded.
i feel as though i’m going through this exact realisation in my life right now at 22 years old, realising that having “things” isn’t all that important. it’s about having good strong relationships and constantly growing as a person and doing things you love.
really appreciate this heart to heart video asmon, speaks tons about your character.
Right. I think that there have been studies that show a threshold where after you reach it, further income doesn’t equal a better or happier life. Being able to live comfortably I guess depending on the country is that threshold. It’s nice to be able to just buy things but I think that just having the money to begin with or having so much money that it doesn’t matter robs some sort of experience from people.
Money comes and goes.....mounts are forever.

I truely respect and relate to this mentality. I personally think, in general, if more people thought this way, life would not only be easier, but happier. The things outside of your control are then easier to accept, understand and deal with when you are not worrying about superficial shit that ultimately does not matter in the grand scheme of things.

In this video, Zack shares his journey towards living a simple life. He reflect on their past attachment to material possessions and the realization of their superficiality and meaninglessness. Zack values financial freedom and finds contentment in owning fewer material possessions. He prioritize experiences, relationships, and pursuing passions instead. He emphasize the importance of finding fulfillment rather than material wealth and encouraging others to do what they love for a happier life. He also expresses gratitude for the support and aims to help as many people as possible with their insight.

1000% this, my brother was obsessed with his appearance in middle school and high school and I realized how superficial and conceited it made him and his friends appear. I also saw how hard it was on my mom, he begged and guilted her into buying him the most expensive clothes and shoes and it was completely heartbreaking to watch. I would always try to make up for it by encouraging her to buy me the least expensive clothes and making sure she knew she was doing a good job just by making sure we had clean clothes to wear.

"And be a functioning member of society" - I believe you already are, more so then most people. The entertainment of your streams and videos - or better yet, all of the content you provide for others to enjoy is certainly helping them cope with the negatives of life, help relax in the hectic, and often times harsh, world we live in. Consider for a moment how many people out there might be depressed or have problems, or are just feeling down, and your stream or video made feel better. Even slightly. I can assure you, that number of people you help by proxy (by the content you make) is much higher than any therapist can say for their achievement. And they are sure considered functioning members of the society. So don't doubt for a second that you are not. I'd say you are more vital then most.
PS Full disclosure, I'm not saying Zack is a therapist, but I strongly believe that his work is therapeutic.

I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of dr.pepper and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were issues on my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to get in a mount off, i wouldn't lose to anyone.

He spent his whole life being close to his mom, something that many of us wish we could do the day our mothers start to decline..Nothing else matters except that I want to be close to her in those final days. Cherish those memories.
Agreed ! I realized that now and after a 7 year old relationship that kept me so worried about my ex girlfriend and busy with her, where she wouldn’t let me see anybody, hardly my mother, now, I finally came to realized that my mother is the most sacred thing I have and I’ve been spending so much time with her lately that fills me with joy. If I die tomorrow I won’t be sad, because the last days have been blissful.
In other culture, living with your parents even beyond 18 is not uncommon. Perfectly fine, practical even
In most asian countries, living with parents is seen as normal and is encouraged because you're actually taking care of your parents in their old age
At least he spent time with his mom while she was alive. Most people can hardly wait to be 18 and move out, and they don't realize nobody cares for you more than your mom.
Thank you Asmon, you are a honest and gentle person, you will always be an example for me for what I will need to strive for. Thank you for everything.
