- On November 5, 1998, HerInteractive released their first Nancy Drew Game: Secrets Can Kill. 25 years later, we're celebrating where Nancy's story began with the original 1998 version of Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill!
This was the first Nancy Drew game I ever played, and despite switching disks and brain teaser puzzles, this game holds a very special place in my heart. I am so glad I was able to figure out how to run this game on my laptop, and even more excited to share this video playthrough with you!
Nancy Drew is called to Paseo Del Mar, Florida by her Aunt Eloise to investigate the murder of a high school student- Jake Rogers. Upon investigating, Nancy discovers that no one is as they seem and everyone has a reasonable motive for wanting Jake dead. It's up to you as Nancy Drew to solve the crime and uncover everyone's secrets before they turn deadly.

Aww that’s so sweet to hear about your student excited to play ND. You’re definitely helping bring up the next generation of fans!
It has definitely become a thing in our classroom, I love that Nancy is making such a huge impact on the next generation!
I love that you showed off all the phone numbers!
Calling Aunt Eloise is my favorite in this game- love that we get to hear her!
I just realized how bright the environments are compared to the Remastered. The library entrance for one and the diner stood out to me.
"A celebrity at this table" 😂 I'm very happy you mentioned this!
25 years later, and we're still waiting for another appearance 🤣
This was another game I finally played for the first time last year (shoutout to Huw for a great installation tutorial), and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! The brain teaser puzzles really were fun. I loved your story about using a CD case reflection to read the sticky notes and feeling so smart and proud of yourself. :)
That was an exciting moment for young me lol needless to say, that was the moment I was bitten by the mystery bug
Congrats, Sleuthy, on getting this game to run ❤ Even when it could run on my computer, I couldn't play this game first because Wizard always had issues whenever I clicked on locations other than Aunt Eloise's house. Since I'd played STFD before this one, SCK was a little disappointing (culprit barely in game, plot answers given away in the messages, etc). So much could have been improved in the remastered; if you're going to redo it, make it GOOD! 🤷♀️ Oh, well.
I was shocked when it worked on windows 10, I was prepared to run it through my virtual machine! There is a trick to getting the older games to work- thankfully it worked like a charm! And I agree, if you're going to remaster- go big and bold!!
I love when the developers used wordplay, like on the jukebox. Even at 11 years old, I knew most of the real song names. ❤
Agreed! I enjoyed it as a kid, and absolutely love it as an adult!
I’d like to see Ransom remastered. It’d be an opportunity to make up for past mistakes
YES!! So many missed opportunities, I'd love to see them remaster and give us a fantastic tropical island game
I looked up the name on the security report, Doyle Burnett, and they were the CFO on the team according to IMDB.
That is so cool!
I remember being so stuck on getting the bolt cutters. I do not trust that ladle!!
Same! Video game logic at its finest!
I'd forgotten about the star screensaver! Sigh, why does the world change so fast? 😅
I do miss the old charm of having brain teasers with clues in the games!
Same here, I do enjoy the brain teasers
