    I'm with Jared on this one. When you cut the brassicas back at about 8 to 10 they end up shooting quite a bit of young growth off that the deer end up really appreciating it later on in the season. Yes it done stunt it for about a week to 10 days but if you have a rain within 2 weeks they do just fine and still focusing on your cereal grains around it and I've had them pull up bulbs in the middle of March and Munch on them

    I respect everyone's tactics for hunting but one I always think about is whoever has private land probably worked their tail off to own the land,,because land isn't free

    I did something similar with brassicas last year. I planted a clover plot and had some brassicas seed left over. So I mixed the two together. Planted august 8th. I noticed the brassicas were out competing the clover because I planted brassicas too heavy. I mowed part of the plot September 26th. Brassicas regrew but the bulbs only got to baseball size where I mowed and softball size where I didn’t mow. Clover came up great where I mowed and had to reseed clover where I didn’t mow come spring time.
    I Also hunt in columbiana county, OH. Good luck this season!

    I think 200 inch bucks are even fewer than you think. It's literally a needle in a haystack. Also, when one exists these days everyone knows about it by visually seeing him. . Then everyone hunts him and he gets killed. Even the best counties in the USA for big bucks don't have hardly any at all. Some of the biggest names in the hunting industry hunt in Decatur Co Iowa.. They have TV shows and how often do you see them shooting 200s? It happens but it's extremely rare, and they are on the best land in the United States. Most landowners there are managing for top end bucks too.

  • @bmalone0688
    @bmalone0688 2 роки тому

    The question about 200's should be asked to all of the guests lol. I think depending on where you hunt the answer would vary quite a bit. I mainly hunt Texas where I live and they are rare but here in certain areas. Also hunt Kansas and have seen multiple 200's on the hoof and harvested within 1 mile of our spot. I assume you are talking 200 Gross right? I would say 5-7k that gross 200" walking around on an average year. That's a total guess haha

      I think there are at least 50-100 in poor states and 250+ in good states

    Deer love radish leaves early. Sept -nov . I plant straight radish light. Don’t plant early. The smaller the radish the better. I’m planting in wi now. I broadcast rye 3-4 weeks from now before the radish get huge. And I get best of both worlds. The radish with the tastey leaves, dongers in the winter , and the rye coming up in between.
    Don’t plant brassica too early. Big are not tastey. My most tastey brassica were planted Aug 22nd cuz of no rain. They hammered it.
    They don’t eat yours maybe cuz you plant too early.
    Radish and light turnip Aug 1-10th before a rain. And rye sept 1-10th before rain to. Try it.

    Love the show, not sure I agree with the 200" buck discussion after Don left the show. I do agree that it would be a great research project. In my circle of friends that hunt [in Pa] and we have never gotten photos of any bucks over 185" over roughly 6 counties. I would guess there's more like 4-8 200"'s in our state. I won't comment on other states numbers though... Maybe ask Spook Spann.

    I live in se Mn near where sturgis lives and the two county’s close to me is some pretty good whitetail hunting. I think there could easily be 10 200” deer in both counties. There’s a lot of places to hide in the Mississippi River valley bluffs. If our regulations were more like Iowa this area would be just as good.

    Since B&C was scoring bucks 3000 net 200" bucks give or take, have been entered in the book. So your odds of taken a 200" net is about 16 200" net bucks are taken , or your odds would be one in a million!!!! I do not know what the odds would be for a 200" gross buck per year.

    Number of 200s question my guess is less than one to one per county on average in good states and 1 per 5-10 counties in less quality states

    Florida's out here bringing that average way on down lol. There's a lot of deer but there's only been 2 over 200 ever recorded in the state (and really only a handful over 150). One 80 years ago and one after a large government owned area was opened to hunting.
