- In today’s vlog, I’m taking you through an incredible day of exploration and hospitality here in Manila. My morning started with an unexpected but welcome call from a Nepali brother who has been living and working in Manila. He generously offered me a place to stay at his apartment until I got my passport back from immigration, which was a great opportunity to save some money on hotel costs. Without hesitation, I accepted his offer.
A car arrived at my hostel to pick me up, and I loaded my cycle and bags into the vehicle. But before heading to his place, the driver and I decided to do some sightseeing around Manila, starting with a visit to Quezon City-the most populous city in the Philippines, named after the country’s former president, Manuel L. Quezon.
Manuel L. Quezon was a significant figure in Filipino history, serving as the president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 until his death in 1944. Quezon was a prominent advocate for Filipino independence from American rule and is often referred to as the "Father of the Philippine National Language" because of his efforts to promote the use of Filipino as the national language. Quezon’s influence on the country is still evident today, with his legacy commemorated in the very city that bears his name.
While in Quezon City, we visited the Quezon Memorial Circle, a historical park dedicated to the late president. The site features a towering mausoleum containing his remains, and I had the chance to explore the museum located within the park, which showcased Quezon’s life, including his personal belongings, cars, and even the layout of his home, including his bedroom, kitchen, and more. For car enthusiasts, this museum is a must-visit, as Quezon was a known car lover.
After the historical tour, we drove to Makati, one of the most luxurious and expensive areas in Manila, where my Nepali brother was staying. Makati is known as the financial hub of the Philippines, with towering skyscrapers, upscale shopping centers, and a vibrant nightlife. I finally met my friend, and we hit it off immediately. To celebrate, we decided to dine at a Nepali restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner along with some beers, reminiscing about our shared cultural roots.
My friend’s apartment was on the 17th floor of a beautiful building, offering breathtaking views of the city. The apartment itself was spacious and modern, providing a comfortable place to relax after a long day.
The next day, I went to the immigration office to pick up my passport, marking the end of this short but eventful stay in Manila. Before leaving for Cebu, I took some time to rest and recharge in the comfort of my friend’s apartment.
