Finally, a straight up, bare bones DIY pedalboard. Lots of other people turning this into a wood working master piece. I knew there was a way to make a solid one with a simple, generic design. Thank you
Now that's what I call a DIY pedalboard. No need for a tablesaw, router, jigsaw, sanding machine, soldering iron, degree in electronics or free pass to the Large Hadron Collider lab. Just some softwood, a saw, and a drill. Love it.
HAHA! I was thinking the same, although not so much from the sawdust, which is easy to vacuum up, but the GLUE!! Fortunately, looks like none got on the rug. That said, nice work. Looks great, very well made and saved about $100
Thank you for this design. It worked like a dream. I only spent ten bucks on wood. So, if you’re reading this, try this build! Really worth it compared to the $100+ pre-made ones and it only took a half hour. Additionally, the tool he used to saw the wood is called a Miter Box for the hardware noobs like me out there. Happy building folks, peace.
Built it last night. $38 total including 2 boxes of Velcro. I'll admit it took me a tad longer than 30 minutes, but it came together great. I added a carrying handle to the rear board and will add an egress hole and whatever else is needed to keep the power cord secured once I play with it some more. Truly excellent and helpful video, thanks!!!
Just a FYI... It's must HAVE. OF isn't a verb. If I wrote 'I of gone to the store', instead of 'I have gone to the store' you'd think I was stupid. That's the same thing you all are saying when you use "of" in place of "have". It's 'must have'. Not 'must of'. Even writing must've is more correct than must of. And youre not saving keystrokes using of. It's the exact same amount as if your wrote must've
I watched many videos and this is the one that hit a home run! Simple, no elegant in design and function! I don't have thousands of $ of woodworking equipment to make a pedalboard like the other guys. Let alone the time. Thank you for the simple, straight forward video.
Nice job with a simple, basic project. Function before form. I love how you use mostly hand tools rather than showing off a full blown wood shop. Although doing on the carpet had to be a bit of a mess. Thanks!
Great video! Finally one with normal circumstances. I did just make mine last night. Some stain made a real difference & id recommend it as yours is much nicer.
wanted to add: Additionally to being able to realistically make this any size you want, you can also paint it any COLOR you want. This could be cool because while many people would do just black or white, you could also do funky designs, put your bands logo on it, basically anything you’d want to. Super cool!
Just built this! Even with the lumber shortage, this plus nails was only 17$ for the common board at home depot. Awsome tutorial, gonna throw some masking tape and paint it Eddie van Halen style :)
Thank you very much. After watching about a kazillion vids on building a pedalboard and being disheartened by thier seeming complexity, your vid opened my eyes and made me ready to build my own now from reclaimed timber. Thank you for providing me with the means and the motivation.!
Thank you for this video, it was a great inspiration. I have a suggestion to further improve upon it. I suggest you add a gap between the top board and the frontal board. You have them neatly connected but there is no space to wire in power supply for the top row of pedals
Great video Scott! Your dimensions were right on. I got my wood at Menards too and mine had a DIY wood cutting area so I made all my cuts there. I did make the two legs 4 inches long each instead of 2.5 inches because I wanted the my board to have a slightly higher angle.
Excellent design, Scott! The only thing that would have made it better would have been to countersink the screws a bit. Excellent video. I'm at the same place right now. Have accumulated about five pedals and my practice rooms is a menagerie of wires.
I made my own about 3 years ago from some reclaimed wood from an old box springs! Mine is similar to yours only I had more tools at my disposal, and instead of legs on the bottom, I slanted the sides creating the necessary slope. I also painted mine black. and zip tied a powerstrip to the end. Only cost me the velcro, all the other supplies were laying around my garage. Nice Job and keep on building!
Easy. Made it today. Thanks! Bought a 1" x 3" x 10' board and a 1" x 2" x 6' board from Home Depot, and asked them to cut them into the sized pieces that Scott suggested, and came home and screwed the pieces together.
Built something like this back in July. Its 28 inches across, 5 bars, 2 tier. Bottom 3 are for effects, the top 2 hold any utility devices, like my NS-2, compressor, and looper. So much more satisfying than buying a steel frame from a manufacturer
Nice design and perfect for my set-up. Just built one. I would add to your parts list #6 screws which I used and ended-up being perfect size for the material used. A+ video.
Thanks for doing this video, I built a slightly smaller version today, overall size was around 500 x 250mm, total timber cost was just over £4, works perfect for what I need
Taking inspiration from this I went down to Lowes and picked up some material and hammered out a board very similar to this. Except about 3 feet long due to my copious amount of pedals. I don't intend to move it too often so weight wasn't a huge issue for me. Thanks for the inspiration man!
Great board man! I loved that it's simple and straight forward. I'm getting ready to build my own as well and there are so many examples I've seen lately that were unnecessarily complicated.
Greetings from Mexico! I saw your video yesterday and built one for myself today. I must say it is some nice craftsmanship! Thanks a lot for your video! I took the time to add some wood lacquer and also a power strip/current regulator.
Alright, man! After a couple of days of searching Google and watching UA-cam vids, I've found my pedal board. I like that it only took two boards and no plywood, which is expensive when you're needing a board even smaller than the one you built. Too much leftover. Thanks for the video!
Thank you Scott. This looks kinda what I had in mind. I would like to modify it to accommodate a power supply fastened underneath somehow - maybe with a thin metal strap screwed in. Then I'd prolly stain and finish with polyurethane (leaving velcro spaces alone of course) Nice simple design! Thanks for taking the time to do this!
thank you, just built it, piece of cake, just extended the dimensions a bit to fit all my pedals 36 inches and painted black; ready to try out tomorrow at my next gig!
This video inspired me to build one too. I think yours looks a bit better than the way mine came out, but mine works and I had fun! Thanks for posting this!

thank you for the very good a d helpful instruction video, please can you tell me, where I can order the green element, you use for cutting the boards. thank you
This is awesome, Scott! I built mine over the last two days, scheduled in the short spaces around my kid's distance learning schedule :) Easy, lightweight, not too bad looking, no frills.... it is the perfect diy pedalboard.
@@ScottBreault Thanks for sharing the video and the measurements! This is exactly what I needed to see. Has it worked well for you? Would you make any changes? Thank you.
Nice! Thanks for sharing Scott! About to build mine. I have that same Radial ABO XLR switch along with a few other XLR based pedals. I've been searching online for good, low profile, right angle XLR connectors. I found the Neutrick type but not as low profile as the nice pancake right angle 1/4" connectors out there. What did you use to wire up the XLR connections? Thanks in advance :)
Great design. One question...shouldn't the longest piece (that is the back piece that rests on the floor) be 26" not 25.5? Maybe I'm missing something about your measurements. Thank you!
Thank you! These measurements are based on finish cut lumber, not rough cut. So 1" lumber is actually 3/4". If you follow the listed lengths everything should fit together properly with finish cut lumber. If you use rough cut you'll have to adjust accordingly.
Pretty cool Scott. Nice video. btw... I'm thinking at 1:34 the wife came down and gave you an earful for cutting wood and glueing on the carpet! haha But seriously, good stuff. Thanks
Thanks for posting this video. I followed your design, except I expanded it to 14" deep to allow a back row of larger footprint pedals. My wife even had some stain left over from something she did, so I added that. Considering that this brings the total number of things I've built out of wood to one, it turned out quite nice. Thanks again.
Thank you for this! My board turned out really well. I put Velcro across the full area of the 3 1x3x24s. Made a more finished look in my opinion. I've got a couple medium sized pedals and a big muff as well as a cry baby wah and they all fit without a problem. The wah just fits but I dont think there is a bigger wah than the Cry Baby. At least in length.
Aaron Bates 2 inch Velcro off amazon. I cut the 2 inch strips into 1 inch strips and placed them beside the 2 inches to create 3 inches. The Velcro was $40 CAD and was a lot more expensive than the board itself
That's a great question! I pretty much use mine in the same venue all the time. if I needed to pick it up and move it regularly, I would probably put a metal handle on each side.
Hello, fellow pedalboard enthusiasts. I just finished putting this board together and applying a coat of stain to make it look nice. This gentleman may have built it for $12. However, we spent $60 at the local Lowe's on these parts + wood stain, and finish. And for the time, it will take more than 30 minutes. Make sure to allocate at least 1 hour if you are hand sawing everything and make perfect measurements/cuts. Other than adding the coat of finish and velcro in the morning, I'm done building it. Great pedalboard. Thanks!
This inspired me to make my first pedalboard and it worked great; so pleased! I have a question about your Daphon Volume Pedal (if someone could PLEASE give me some feedback that'd be much appreciated as I can find no video reviews on the subject). How is the volume pedal? is it good for swells? Id like to get it if it works well as it is cheaper than other models (how the heck are volume pedals so expensive?!) Thanks in advance!
