    This episode continues where Ep.58 left off upgrading wiring and adding more lights and cool to this old 359 Peterbilt. I send off the used headlights buckets I purchased to get polished and while they were away continued to work outside in freezing temperatures to install classic style signal lights on the front fenders. However, at one point is just got too cold to work so I moved into the cab with a space heater. While inside, I upgraded the ai valves to glitter balls (a gift from a fan), glitter switches and I finally engraved the “This Peterbilt is Customer made for…” plaque. Then when the weather warmed up some, I installed the headlights and wired everything up. At night this truck is starting to look like a Christmas tree, but as I always say, “if some is good, more is better” so I’m going to keep adding more lights in future episodes.
    Enjoy watching the "little by little" progress of this Peterbilt 359 project that's nearing completion and the next #ProjectSnowman, a Kenworth W900A tribute truck to the one used in Smokey and the Bandit and the one after that a 1979 Kenworth K100 cabover that I’m planning to build up like the one used in the trucking movie High Ballin’ with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.

    Where are you from in Alberta, the scenery looks familiar on your intro. Enjoy your videos, I’ve worked on several of the old trucks I’ve seen, most notably the Stross Management Truck. His shop was next to us and these videos bring back memories. I’ve been retired for many years now but still remember fixing all the old trucks, put the switch in and tape in from the front, then put some silicone on the back to hold it.

    You can fill the engraving "Twin Sticks" lettering with black paint.... let the paint set up and then gentlely with a razor blade scrape the paint off the flat surface around the lettering... Trust me it works well for painting engravings to give them detail

    • @tonydyvr
      @tonydyvr 3 роки тому +1

      This, or even a black Sharpie will work - just press hard all over the engraving, then after it dries use a clean rag with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol (not enough to make the rag soaked, just a little damp) and gently wipe the excess off the top surface and the stuff in the engraving will stay behind. If you wipe off to much, just repeat until you are happy!

    • @RMRifles
      @RMRifles 3 роки тому

      Instead of a rag to remove the excess black. Use a piece of paper. It won’t go down inside the engraving and it’ll leave nice crisp edges.

      Use finger nail paint you can get any color. Then take finger nail polish remover put on cotton ball and rub over top and clean up and the paint will stay in engraving.

    Take it from someone who does wiring for a living (on aircraft, not trucks but very similar): crimp terminals are far quicker than soldering and if done right, they'll last longer too because they're less prone to cracking from vibration. Look for AMP ratcheting crimpers at your local auto supply store or on Amazon or Ebay

    • @notpoliticallycorrect1303
      @notpoliticallycorrect1303 2 роки тому

      Agreed we do Motorsport preparation and absolutely won't use solder anywhere,almost every electrical connection failure I come across is down to soldered joints,either via mechanical failure of the joint due to vibration/ harmonics or corrosion,it seems that even a half decent semi exposed mechanical crimp or screw type connector is still less prone to corrosion than a sealed soldered joint. I was reading a post on another video of a guy who's family business has been building specialist trucks(pumps,generators etc). for some of the world's harshest environments for over 80 years and found that solder joints were a common failure( not convenient when the truck is a 1000 miles deep in a jungle or desert)and since abandoning solder in their building process in the 70's have never had an electrical connection failure since,mighty impressive proof indeed!

    I can't stand using those premade relay plugs due to the fact that you have to splice the wires. I buy the relay sockets with no wires and crimp the pins onto the correct length of wire needed. Using those socket with the pigtails forces you to have a bunch of extra splices and possible failure points.

    You can paint the engraved tag with black testors model paint and the take some acetone and rub it off the surface, it will remain in the engraved area. I paint AR receivers that way.

    Ah -20 in Alberta... fine working weather for outdoors....especially when your working with brittle wiring, nothing like wire that just wants to snap in your fingers because its cold and old, been there done that... way too many times. Nice job under the hood with your relays and wiring you had to do with the loom and all she looks pretty clean and tidy and that is always a plus for down the road if you ever have to trouble shoot something or add something in Project lights take some time, but man the end result is pretty sweet when you look at the result especially when you see her lit up in the dark and and you can just imagine one day rolling down the highway in her pulling into somewhere to grab a cup of joe and coming out to her all lit up in the night and thinking... "yeah... that's my bad boy all lit up there"
    The interior is coming along, all the dash is slowly coming together and the pieces are starting to fall into place and how can you not like the glitter knobs and shifter balls.... pretty sweet. Man some of the subs on this channel sure are some top notch folks to throw some of their pete stuff your way for the project, you got to love how much folks want to give to help make the project get to the finish line.... its pretty awesome Nice idea to do the Pete plate with Twin Sticks on it for the dash, a little personal touch you will have for years down the road.. BTW the guys did a nice job on the lights, for lights that had been sitting out for how long, they made them look pretty spiffy with a polishing... imagine what the truck will look like when its all done with the things polished once your finished up... ooooh baby she will look like a mean machine

    Twinsticks, Take some black enamel paint and paint the words on that little plaque. Once the paint fills the engraved text you can wipe the extra off from the surface and it will look great. EDIT: I just saw someone else posted the same thing already.

      You said it better ;) to add to this sometime you need to do a little sanding to make sure all the paint is removed above the engraving. I’ve seen some not even wipe away the paint and sand it when dry, I assume this is to stop from removing any paint in the engraving.

    I really like this but as I run hard and with the way things are going soon they won't be legal to run. They are pushing for all emissions trucks. It's already starting to happen. I almost bought a 1994 kw can over but with alot of these older trucks the problem is many can't work on them anymore and parts are way harder to find. So as a guy who runs hard it would not be a good investment. Basically I'd buy one for a show truck which I've been thinking about. I'm working on buying a lovely new w900l with the studio bunk with Seatle pkg. So you still get a classic traditional truck but you have a x15 performance with 13 SPD. 605 hp and 2050 torque. They've had great results with that engine. I won't touch PACCAR.

  • @keith7036
    @keith7036 3 роки тому

    Two things, I don't know if you're using connectors on your wires or solder, but I would always solder. These old trucks shake and give the opportunity for connectors to break...giving way to headaches to find the break. Secondly, lesson 101 on feeding wires into wire loom: Hold the start of the loom, split up, in the crook of your index finger. Start the wire in the split on the end of the loom with your thumb on the same hand as your index and start pulling the loom as you push down on the wires, It will naturally fall into the open loop split......hope this is as clear as mud. I did my own resto mods on old vettes, harleys, etc and really miss it. Wish I was there working with you. Love those old iron ladies....and you are doing it right....just remember to do as good on the hidden items too. Love this stuff!!

    My 1986 359 had those lights on the fender. There was a small oval shaped hole in that tubing right behind the light for the wires. My 1995 378 didn't have them or the turn signals on the fenders. I added them and just used the plastic loom from auto parts store. I think it took me all day to install them.

    I believe in 68 or 69 it became federal law in the U.S. to have amber marker in the front and red marker in the rear looking from the side. I don't know how it was in Canada, but if the truck was a U.S. truck, it would be in violation, therefore I would say the wire got lost or eliminated maybe due to a blowout

    Pour black paint on the Twinn Sticks letters / dab on with model paint brush. Then immediately wipe off plate with paper towel. May want to wrap paper towel around something flat like a piece of wood or plastic bondo knife. Paint will fill in the engraved lettering. You can use your finger but don't press to hard cuz you want the paint to stay in the lettering. Will have to wipe a few times to get faceplate clean.

  • @marysoldeeley2218
    @marysoldeeley2218 3 роки тому

    Wicked!! And the engraved words can be filled with paint or epoxy to make them black. I used to use India ink. but auto paint you likely already have and would look shiny. Actually would look nice if you used blue for your new engraved words :) Tape over the top words, use a damp Q-tip with solvent to wipe off excess....

    Are you running all your extra lights to the switch or using a relay? The amperage draw from the extra lights is too much for a factory switch you may want to run them to a relay. The reflector is a update for the fender lights there was no way to seal the old lights and they failed repeatedly, I tried to run 5 lights on my front fender in the early 80s and had nothing but problems from moisture getting in the lights dielectric grease and silicone helped but it was a never ending challenge maybe newer lights are better sealed (oops typed before finishing the video)

    Recommend that you instead run the activation power to your relays from a source that has power with the key, and run the ground for the relays to your switches. this way your relays only work when the key is on and bc youre using the switches to give the relays their ground, the switches last pretty much forever

    Your turn signal lights on your front fenders have to be red on the back side you can’t have Amber light pointing to the rear At least here in the states they are kind of picky about that also if you have some toggle switch extensions that are tight just warm them up a little bit with a lighter and slip them on

    my fender lights are lights rather than reflectors, those ones i cleaned up the lights that were on my truck when i got it, I assumed that was factory. the led turns on top of the fenders were from dirks. my fender signals light up front and back there red on the back and amber on the front.

    Gotta have bling on the inside as well as on the outside! 🤩 Yes, I do think that most truckers like the lights! I’ve ALWAYS liked lights so that people could see me coming and going. Most trucks don’t have very many on the back though. I always put mood lights on the inside as well. The knob balls are cool, and they match the switch covers. The dash plaque is cool and shouldn’t be hard to paint either. That’s a nice touch! 😎 I’m glad that your turn signal didn’t get blown..I’ve heard that if you cross those wires it would destroy the leds, but I guess maybe not. I have some led turn signals that I bought for my old REO when I get it ready. I like having an old truck with new technology installed. You take the best of both worlds and make a special truck. The headlights turned out SWEET! Don’t forget to treat that rust inside the buckets.😳 Little by little! You may need to keep her in the garage for when you just want to go out and tinker on a Friday night or so...a LOT WARMER inside!

    What are the movie titles the clips come from that you insert? They're so funny and help magnify the humor of the episodes. I'd like to watch the entire movies.

    Dear Mark P. Twin Sticks Garage
    👍👌👏 Will old Blue be renamed after adding all this stuff? Maybe Bling Bling Blue? ;-) :-) Just kidding of course.
    2) I'm really glad that you put on front flash lights/blinker. It's much safer in traffic. By the way: Some used front brakes in sight? ;-) :-)
    Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
    Best regards luck and health to all of you.

    If you read this hope it makes cent's😉just had my knee replaced a couple of day's ago so still using dumb pain pills,.....but.....isn't that a trailer valve under the steering wheel, did Peterbilt have two valves for the trailer air application?, and what is a brakes on off switch? and only my opinion, but the fender light would be great if it was a led-marker light- and turn light.....wow thank goodness for spell check...ok thanks for the video...God Bless take...and stay warm.😊
