Picking up where I left off in the previous episode, I start tackling the HVAC system inside the truck replacing the fan heater, valves, cables and clean the gummed-up heater core. Then I complete the install of the new coolant lines, put the lower dash back together, poured in hundreds of dollars of official CAT coolant and fired up LBL to see if its finally making heat.
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!
Would also like to add that I kid a lot in my videos but wanted to clarify that coolant is extremely poisonous to all living things even when its diluted 50% with water. Please exercise caution when working with it including proper PPE like face protection, gloves, etc and be sure to properly clean up any spills and dispose of any old coolant properly
Keep in mind, I know a little about a lot but not an expert in anything … just doing the best I can, learning as I go ... I do all my own stunts
Enjoy watching the progress of this ongoing Peterbilt 359 restoration the Kenworth W900A Smokey and the Bandit tribute project, and the upcoming #IronDuke Kenworth K100 cabover I’m planning to build up like the one used in the 70’s trucking movie High Ballin’ with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.

@@jonathanmelching3465 there’s already one on Patreon where I found a trailer for #ProjectSnowman 👀
4 Bob a month to help keep mark in beer 😂😋
I'll sign up next month 👍
Will do sir.
Wait for this too pop up on U tube ! Great videos every week
Mark, maybe should have pulled out the A/C condensor too. It's probably really dirty too since the air passes through it first. Oh well a project for another day. Little by little.
Lookin good Marc! Holding true to it's name... "Little by Little".
KEEP ON TRUCKIN!!!
Boa noite amigo,o seu conteúdo muito bom devagar você vai longe espero você todas as quintas 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Love the videos !
Details, details, details...nice job! You mean you don't miss working outside on the trucks? That's what got me hooked on your channel...
Right I remember those days and working on them on the side of the interstate highway!!!
You’re not the only person it makes smile love that truck and the hard 🥶cold work you put in it I’ve been watching since day one cannot get enough👍👍👍
I have a sign in my shop, it says..."Beware of flying wrenches!"
Why don't Americans make things in big bottles? I mean, when you buy a coffee or a drink from McDonalds it comes in a bucket.
But when you need 40 litres of coolant for your truck it comes in 1 litre bottles?
In Australia engine oil comes in 5 litre or 20 litre or 200 litres, coolant is 4, 20, or 200 litre. You can buy 1000 litre IBCs if you need it.
I can't get over the waste when you see shows like Engine Masters and they fill a big block with like 8 tiny bottles of oil!
love the "ALRIGHT" as you opened up the shop door. Had me smiling.
The t-shirt i order is awsome great picture of little by little. Thank you
The 359 with the Corvette dash was my favorite tractor to drive. I had two before I moved up to the 379.
Just so you know gates makes power grip heat shrink hose clamps that are great for hard to access areas.
I don't say this often enough, but thank you for your videos. I admire your amazing skills, your patience, and your perseverence. Kudos to you!
Mornin Mark I don't envy you working on heater cores, never a nice job. Me and another fella fixed one on a 77 Mack in 25 below weather between High level and Rainbow lake, that was about as much fun as pullin yer pud with boxing gloves, but we got it done he had heat all the way back to Edson. Ride easy Mark see you next week.
OMG really? May ?? Well what takes longer, plowing the driveways and shoveling the walks VS mowing the lawn and trimming? LOL
I happen to know how much of a not fun job that is....lol got it licked though. Sure will be nice to get some heat in the old gal
Biggest difference between where you live and me in Alabama, your priority is heat, mines A/C..
Friend when you see the heater core fins plug ĺike that it is usually signs that your evaporator core is has a small leak ,the A/C has little mix with freon sticks to everything and dust and dirt you have plugged core fins ,then air can't travel through . You end up with poor heating
I admire you, young man….@26:53 it’s good to see that you still take “your vitamins”!!!!! Keep up the good work!
Dude. What happened? Does this mean spring has not sprung as we previously believed?
Mark have a look on e bay at the chinese diesel night heaters ,in the uk you can get one for less than £100 so id guess it wont be to much more at your end .They come as either a sealed unit with diesel tank or you get th conventional type that you fit a stand pipe to your diesel tank .I got the complete unit with seperate tank to save tapping in to my fuel lines . They are fab and very economical on fuel . Mine has a remote so you can set it away whilst in bed if it got cold .They are a a bit bigger the contained unit and red in colour .Take a look and see what tickles your fancy . You get alot cooler weather there and its far quieter than having the engine tick over all night . 🙂God bless !
@Jim jibroni I dont see your sense there the whole point of it is that it works in cold temperatures! I and many others have no issues .Not good to have fake pig piss motors running all night (def) It is meant to be inside anyway the boxed ones and it would probably fit under bed .Exhaust and intake are underside and dry . Nearly every truck in the uk has them and have had for the past 20 plus years thanks to eberspacher and webasto but the cost is quite high ,Hence chinese ones . So i dont see any point in further discussing the matter. They work in the cold very well !
When I saw the first episode, I thunk, "Is he really rebuilding that damn thing in the SNOW?" Fook yeah Mark. You earned the new shop, and the Toys. LBL looks amazing, and I'm looking forward to more videos. A huge thanks to Mrs. TS, your family, and, the meat thermo-meter.
Class Pays, since 1923.
I knew it had to take longer than 1 Saturday, went to smooth!🤣 I'd be like the trailer park guy cuz everything would brake! Great video,!!!👍😎
Ricky
got a 96 suburban needs a/c and heater work done
think I'll bring it to u and let u tackle that job for me
lol
We're do you live ??? It looks like the North Pole
The 359 takes me back to my childhood. Dad had a 79 and a 82. Yours is a dead ringer for his 82. He had a Cummins and 13 speed in his. I made a lot of miles in the passenger seat as a kid. Learned to drive a stick in the 79.
Great episode. Learned a lot.
Best show on the tube!
You are right though, you should do all interior dash work prior to doing the new interior and seats. But you are getting it done.
that's y I didn't become a mechanic
cause I'd get mad and throw the new part or tools
lmfao
Lol @ Ricky smashing Lucy's birdhouse!!!! The Ray with the VLT's!!! LMAO "Da Fuggin way she goes!!!" 😂😂😂 Good stuff. Nice job on the heater box, blower motor, and core. I've done heater cores and rebuilt heater boxes when all the foam on the node flaps deteriorates, actuators, and of course final stage blower resistors since they're such a common failure point. This job is SIMPLE in your rig compared to like 99% of cars and trucks. The cores especially are almost always BURIED and the entire dash usually has to come out. Sometimes you can get lucky and you just have to pull the center console, kick panels and or glove box to pull the cores. The resistors and motor itself is usually simple in most stuff, just pulling the glove box or just the under dash kick panel. Peterbilt was nice to give you the amount of access that they did.
Well done Mark. Hey, what is the name of the show that you put up the clips of throughout your videos? Don’t think we had that one here in Australia but I’d like to look it up. Thanks. 😊
Trailer Park Boys ... it’s on Netflix 👀
@@TwinStix thanks Mark. I’ve got that here 👍
That didn’t look fun but also not too bad. I deal with this job at least twice a year on our mid 2000’s Mack’s and would like to beat the engineers who designed that setup. Wedge my gorilla self between the seats and pto towers. Slowly discovered sticking a garden hose in there and flushing until it’s clean worked the best then dry it all out.
Galvanized sheet metal for the top of your shiny new work bench. 24 gauge works well. Easy clean up when you make a mess on top. 👍
Got to have that beer!
It’s crazy with the differences in regions. In Canada he is worried about heating but in Texas we worry about cooling. I could care less if the heater works in my Mack or not. We normally only get like 2 to 3 weeks of actual cold temperatures here.
I rather deal with the snow then the warm weather.
Coral Gables 🌴🇺🇸 Hehe. Sunny 🌞 and 84 here ! Just saying 👌🏄
A word of caution, always secure any motor when you power them up un attached,A friend was diagnosing an audio fault a few years back and had quite a bit of the dash dis assembled. He cycled the ignition but un knowingly he'd had inadvertantly at point in the dis assembly knocked the rotary fan switch to an on position, the fan powered up while hanging on its loom in the passengers footwell, proceeded to spin out of control and the plastic drum type blade assembly then disintegrated on contact with everything around it, with his face about 18" from the fan and he lost an eye .be careful, remembering that direct battery power is full speed!
Does anyone know where the factory port is located that runs the coolant back into the motor/radiator from the heater core? The whole heater system was taken out of mine when I bought it. Have everything completed except for getting the coolant to go back into the system lol 🤦♂️
Mark, Smiths in Edmonton or Wilson in Winnipeg, for mobile electrical needs.
Ooh playing with fire aren't we two thing Mrs Twinsticks isn't going to be pleased with 🤣🤣🤣 in one video
Mr. Twin sticks why don't you pull heat and AC core out and take them to your radiator shop and get them clean and boil out repaired before you put them back in place because they look bad.
CLR soak and a little scrubbing in the laundry sink did just fine 👍
Ok
Go to love Thursdays can’t wait for project snowman to be done I wish we had some trucks like that in Australia
After being retired for seven years now ... I wonder how I did a lot of things in my 'youth' !!! LOL
We added a water filter with a ball valve on both ends, cause my '86 359 didn't have one!
Love your work mark 👍. I like your cach phrase but . It’s still little by little for the peat
If my wife only knew all the things I’ve cleaned in the laundry sink ... I shudder to think.
Hi Marc. Just curious, but was the control valve seized open or shut??
Hook up an old vacuum cleaner up to the vent on your sand blaster cabinet vent it will help with visibility when blasting
TS, what the hell. Is that snow a joke??. It’s 32 over here in arm pit Toronto. Lovin the shop now I bet….
Partner, you keep all that beautiful white crap up there. Down here in north west Indiana it in the 80's.
New stacks on the. Duke 👀🤔 24:05
Hindsight is always 2020!!! 2020 sucked tho.
Wow pink antifreeze must be a newer Engine Awesome unless all semis have rt cool
What does if you got it a trucker brought it mean?
Just an expression to drive awareness on how everything around us was brought to the local store or our houses at one time on a truck and how we should all be grateful for the folks around the world who do this for us everyday 👍
Natures way of saying your not supposed to live there worked on my kw in 79 degree weather in a t shirt today
Now I can go take on my day. Thanks Mark! Great vid-"lil by lil"
Heated cab, heated garage, you're getting spoilt Marc. About time fella. She starts so well LBL does, what a ride.
Thanks for the video Mark and thanks for taking the time so we can watch you, ok ever onward.🤗
Excellent Video. Thank You !! H.
Why does your truck have two trolley handles?
Was the temp guage working? It didn't look like it.
Definitely had the where's the snow question. lol
I remember those days I don’t have that kind of energy anymore
Dishwasher works well for cleaning parts.
awsome video mark it was sure alot of work to get heat in lbl but at lease you got her going great job thumbs up and shared
magnificent great job
Another Great Video Update I think you've earned a 6 pack keep up with the great work your doing 👍😎
Great job Marc! This video just made it a whole lot easier for me when it’s time to replace mine in my 83. Thanks!👍
It is the 19th of may and still snow?????
"dont follow my lead" are you kidding me!! what a humble guy and an amazing build
Good job
The Old Girl looks beautiful
Love to watch your channel Ty for hrs hard work. Are you going paint lillte by little ?
Probably not until the winter as I’m planning on focusing on painting #ProjectSnowman this summer
Ty for your reply 👍
thanks for sharing
Why are you using red antifreeze?
These videos must be far behind lol
Good to see you knocking out these projects on LBL. Can’t wait to see her finished up and painted proper. She is sweet! Keep up the good work Mark!
Mark, I have done the exact same project of repairing and replacing the heating and cooling system in my 359's. The heater core that was clogged with debris means you have even more clogging in front of the AC core. You can see this by gently raising each flap in front of the screen near the door hinge opposite of the outdoor vent intake. One side brings in fresh air and other side recycles the indoor air. You will find that side of the AC core is really clogged up and would let a lot more air through. Best to run compressed air under the flaps with the heater core out (before you put it back in). Made HUGE difference in the air flow and even more so for using the defroster. Day and Night difference. Maybe you can try using a vacuum hose with a narrow end to such the AC radiator clean but it will not do as well as blowing air from the back side and opening the outside vent behind the engine air cleaner to exhaust all the dust and grit stuck to the AC core.
I was watching and hoping you would get that when you saw your heater core was dirty. That dirt came from the other side of the AC core. Like your videos. They save me a lot of time. Only this video was like reliving a nightmare. :)
Yeah I blew out the AC core off camera … amazing amount of dirt/dust came outta there 😂
"don't tell Mrs Twinstix"
Mark,
Noticed that the water temperature gauge was not working. did you get that fixed?
Not yet ... its on the list
Have you gotten soft already
Way to go Mark!
I think when you hit the fan assembly with the hammer it made it unbalanced, I hope it doesnt make it fail too soon :(
Not unbalanced just bent … I straightened it off camera before installing👌
Call the wambulance! :)
Yup I'm super jealous Brother Mark....lol...we have rotten arse upper 80's to mid 90's🤮 here in SE Missouri....anyways back to Twinsticks TV 😉👍🇨🇦✝️🇺🇸
Hi Mark! A question, how many horsepower does your blue Pete have?👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
WOW..what should I write in the comments here??? I saw all the episodes and first I have to say: I see a man who's working with his brain. There is no work done by botch. You have a lot of mechanical understanding and knowledge. The first step to be successful! You are not to be scared to work on bad outside weather conditions, especially on winter time. Now you have your shop and it's more comfortable for you and your healthy. What you are doing with this rework/restoration on this truck is unbelievable. And it is really worth to see all the chapters. There is no boring episode for me. The most important part to restore a truck like this (the Kennys too)is to have a running/working engine I think. I came over from the American Truck Simulator because I want to know what's inside the real trucks, how do they work, what's the technic behind them. I learned a lot of...and I love the old trucks. Keep working on your projects! Best regards to you and your family who accept your hobby from an old (56) airplane engine mechanic! Lost for words now...😃 Regards from Germany 😮
I thought of channeling a bit of Johnny Cash & say you got it one piece at a time, but this costs several dimes. All joking aside, you have a NICE truck, BUT some day it will be an EXCELLENT truck! The other thing about 70s & 80s trucks, they are pretty simple & that makes them dependable.
I remember changing one of those out in Lincoln Nebraska one night. I was sleeping when I was wakened because it was soo cold ( - 64 outside ) the fan motor gave out. luckily the shop had a motor. Good times..............not really.
Do what I mean not what I do.
Does bring a smile 😂
Doesn’t look like the temperature was working.
Yeah the one on top doesn’t work … need to find a replacement. There’s a smaller one down by the hand throttle that works though
Am I missing something, here? When did you swap out your blue cab with a white one? Looking good, Mark.
I worked for a guy once who didn't believe trucks needed heaters. If there was an issue with the heater he would just loop the lines.
He also didn't trust drivers to keep an eye on the temp so he would hard wire the Horton fan. In winter the engine would run at around 50 degrees C.
A 20 year old truck that leaks air around all the seals in -5. You couldn't even pull up and warm our hands on the engine because it was cold too!
It was punishing. Once I had 2 pair of tracksuit pants and jeans, 2 jumpers and a jacket, and was wrapped in a blanket. And was still cold.
I don't blame you
Well done Mark you have done amazing work on your Peterbilt I have been watching your channel since day one keep on Trucking from Robbie Quadara Melbourne Australia 10 4 there good buddy 👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪
"OH RIGHT!" 😁🙃😵💫👌👍🤘Life is great with the right garage!
